Understanding the Los Angeles Rugby Sevens 2023

Rugby sevens has had a home in the United States since 2004, with the Los Angeles Sevens being the largest rugby event in the country each year, pushing sports betting in California. The venue has changed a little over the past two decades, starting off in Los Angeles before moving to San Diego for three years, then Las Vegas for a decade, before coming back to Los Angeles in 2020.

The home side have typically done quite well in front of their local fans. Here’s a look at the past five results:

  • 2017 – South Africa beat Fiji
  • 2018 – United States beat Argentina
  • 2019 – United States beat Samoa
  • 2020 – South Africa beat Fiji
  • 2022 – New Zealand beat Fiji

New Zealand won their first title in the United States since 2008 last year and will be eager to do so again. They’ll have tough competition, however, from a Fijian side that have made five of the last seven finals, and a USA team who have won twice in a row quite recently.

2023 Los Angeles Sevens Predictions

For those who want to test out the latest US betting apps by making some bets on the sevens this weekend, here are the top three bets we recommend making ahead of kick-off this Saturday:

Argentina to Top Pool D @ 1.61 (8/13)

Only once in the past five HSBC World Sevens Series events has Argentina topped their pool. However, they did win the entire tournament in New Zealand a month ago and have been playing some great rugby at times.

In Los Angeles, they have received a favorable draw. Alongside Argentina in their pool are France, Great Britain, and Spain. While France have twice made it to the semifinal stage this season, they have not won an event. Likewise, Great Britain have not won an event, nor have they ever topped a pool. Given that Argentina were finalists here in 2018, and are playing some good rugby the past month, they are a strong bet at 1.61 (8/13) to win Pool D and make a deep run in Los Angeles this weekend.

2023 USA 7s Betting Bonus

New Zealand to Win Outright @ 3.25 (9/4)

It’s hard to bet against New Zealand claiming another title this weekend. The Kiwis have made the past three finals of the Seven Series, coming runners-up in Cape Town and Hamilton. A cherry on the cake became their first title of the season in Sydney almost a month ago, proving our prediction for 2023 Australia 7s. They’ve been consistent performers in the United States, winning the title three times and making a further six finals.

As the leaders of the HSBC World Sevens Series this season, the defending champions, and the most recent event winners, New Zealand are the clear pick to win again in Los Angeles. With odds of 3.25 (9/4), this is a great way to triple your money.

USA to Win Outright @ 15.00 (14/1)

For those who aren’t so sure New Zealand can keep up their current form, the next best bet is to back the United States to come right at home. The home favorites currently sit at seventh in the Sevens Series standings, having made two third-place finishes this season and one other semifinal. However, they have a strong track record of stepping up for their home event, winning the Los Angeles Sevens more than any other tournament.

With the USA sevens teams continuing to improve each season, they feel better than 15.00 (14/1) odds to win here. This bet is not a sure thing but will have an excellent return if the home team goes well this weekend.

  • New Zealand to Win Outright @ 3.25 (9/4)

Rugby sevens heads to Los Angeles this weekend, where the best 16 teams in the world will fight it out for the title.
