2022 MLB Season Betting Tips & Predictions | MLB Title Odds for 2022

BetZillion brings you a complete betting guide with expert MLB 2022 predictions and the best wagering odds from the top baseball bookmakers.

Last month, it was unclear whether Major League Baseball (MLB) would even start the 2022 season. But luckily, the league and the teams finally reached a new collective bargaining agreement, leading to a long-awaited start to one of the world’s most popular sporting leagues.

Even before the league was confirmed to start, the MLB betting sites already had MLB season 2022 odds ready. So let’s not waste any more time and check the odds to show who are priced as the favourites to claim the champion title, which players are expected to shine and claim the MVP award, and which teams and players we should bet on.

Our expert MLB season betting preview provides you with all the information you’ll need to place an online bet on MLB season 2022.

MLB Season 2022 Odds – American League Favourites & Top Picks

Looking at the MLB title odds for the 2022 American League, no surprise names are at the top of the list. Toronto Blue Jays lead the way as 7/2 favourites, followed by Houston Astros at 4/1, and New York Yankees at third with 11/2.

Toronto Blue Jays (7/2)

The Toronto Blue Jays fell short of reaching the playoffs last season, and many teams were thankful for that. We’re not trying to say that the Blue Jays were guaranteed to win the title last term, and they’re far from guaranteed to do it in 2022, but this is easily one of the strongest teams in the league.

The Blue Jays parted ways with Robbie Ray and replaced him with Kevin Gausman and Yusei Kikuchi, an upgrade, but it didn’t stop there. The Toronto squad also added Matt Chapman to form the most stacked roster in the MLB and a champion-calibre lineup capable of going the distance.

New York Yankees (11/2)

There is no denying that New York Yankees have the talent to reach the postseason, but they don’t have as much upside as the Chicago Sox, and they don’t look as good as the Blue Jays. Moreover, if their star players can’t remain healthy, the Yankees will have severe problems with the rotation, making them a very hit-or-miss team and hardly a squad you would consider betting on.

The online bookies have Yankees priced at 11/2 to win the AL, which seems fair. Perhaps they will be worth a bet once we see how they do in the first few weeks of the season and whether there is any news about the player’s health. But for now, we would pass on the Yankees.

Chicago White Sox (6/1)

US sportsbooks have the Chicago White Sox priced as 6/1 underdogs to win the AL, which underestimates them in our book. But there are many question marks above this squad and their chances to claim the champion title.

If Luis Robert, Yasmani Grandal, Eloy Jiménez, and José Abreu can stay healthy throughout the season, the White Sox will be a severe threat. But for them to make some noise in the playoffs, the Chicago outfit will also need further improvement from Andrew Vaughn.

White Sox might not seem like the best team in the league, but at the offered MLB Season 2022 odds, the Chicago White Sox might be worth a small wager.

Past Winners of MLB American League (Last 5)

  • 2021 – Houston Astros
  • 2020 – Tampa Bay Rays
  • 2019 – Houston Astros
  • 2018 – Boston Red Sox
  • 2017 – Houston Astros

MLB Season 2022 Odds – National League Favourites & Top Picks

The MLB National League features some of the best teams in the MLB, so we expect a fierce battle for the title. Still, out of all the great teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers (2/1), New York Mets (5/1), and Milwaukee Brewers (11/2) stand out as the most substantial bunch.

Los Angeles Dodgers (2/1)

The Los Angeles Dodgers should be everyone’s favourite prediction to win the National League. It is by far the most stacked team in its division and is undeniably strong enough to go the distance, especially with the addition of Freddie Freeman.

The Dodgers are priced at 2/1 to win the division, which is a fair price, but you could start asking yourself whether there is any value at such a figure.

New York Mets (13/2)

The New York Mets are expected to win the MLB NL East, which sounds right, especially after the team’s heavy investments after the 2021 disappointment. Marcus Stroman is no longer with the Mets and got replaced by Max Scherzer, while the team filled up other holes with Starling Marte, Eduardo Escobar, and Mark Canha.

It is an excellent roster, but we wouldn’t call it the best in the National League. On a more positive note, the Mets have an excellent rotation, which should help them long-term.

Milwaukee Brewers (5/1)

Besides the St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers are the best team in the NL Central and a very exciting squad to follow. They have 2 Cy Young candidates in Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes, on top of All-star number 3, Freddy Peralta, and promising rookie Aaron Ashby.

Brewers have very high ceilings and ooze potential, but it remains to be seen whether they will manage to take advantage of that and make something happen. They look like the third-best team in the National League, but they might end up as either the first or 4th, behind the Atlanta Braves.

Past Winners of MLB National League (Last 5)

  • 2021 – Atlanta Braves
  • 2020 – Los Angeles Dodgers
  • 2019 – Washington Nationals
  • 2018 – Los Angeles Dodgers
  • 2017 – Los Angeles Dodgers

Time and Date of the Tournament

The 2022 Major League Baseball (MLB) season is set to start on Thursday, April 7, a week after its scheduled start on March 31. The delay happened due to a labour dispute which occurred for the first time in 3 decades.

But the league and the teams agreed, confirming Thursday, April 7, as the opening day of the new season. The league will run until October 5. 2022, with 162 games between 30 teams.

As one of the most prominent sporting tournaments globally, you can be sure that MLB will be well covered by online bookies and broadcasting channels, allowing you to bet on and watch the MLB. If your TV channel does not provide coverage of the MLB, you can always subscribe to one of many websites with a live stream option and live streaming platforms that offer sports coverage.

Your best bet is US sportsbooks – if you have access to one – all will have live streaming options for MLB. And while you’re at it, check if the bookie has any promotions, bonuses, or free bets available – which there are usually plenty of during the MLB season, particularly when playoff games begin.

MLB 2022 Wild Card Predictions

Know that our MLB 2022 betting tips are based solely on value, meaning that the teams we pick aren’t necessarily the strongest but are the best picks at the offered odds. With that in mind, we can focus on the Wild Card games and consider trends, each team’s power, and what should happen in a perfect world.

National League Wild Card Game Prediction

Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets

The New York Mets seemed like a team that could win the NL East, but with the addition of Olson, we had to move Atlanta up a notch and Mets down. Yet even that puts the Mets in the playoffs.

We must remember that the Braves lost Freddie Freeman, granted Olson is an upgrade, and the Braves got Ronald Acuña Jr. back, so they should do more than acceptable. And let’s not forget that the Braves also field Kenley Jansen, Will Smith, and Collin McHugh. Still, Metz’s deGrom, Scherzer, and Chris Bassitt rotations are hard to look past.

San Diego Padres vs St. Louis Cardinals

The San Diego Padres didn’t have the best season in 2021, but the lack of talent wasn’t the problem; rather, it lacked leadership. Adding Bob Melvin should fix many of Paders’ issues, but we have yet to see the Padres form a good, all-around roster. But despite all that, we believe the San Diego Padres can make the playoffs.

We can’t know whether the Cardinals have made the right call signing Mike Shildt, but this team should do fine as long as Jack Flaherty and Miles Mikolas stay healthy. Moreover, the Cardinals have Adam Wainwright, who brings some stability to the roster, further improved by Steven Matz.

The St. Louis Cardinals will be thick of the MLB postseason battle if things fall into place.

American League Wild Card Game Prediction

Chicago White Sox vs New York Yankees

The Chicago White Sox looks excellent and should be one of the top teams in the league. Meanwhile, it’s hard to tell how good the Yankees will be, as much of their success will depend on whether the star players can remain healthy.

Several crucial roster pieces won’t be allowed to play in Toronto because they’re not vaccinated. That could be a massive problem if the Yankees head to Canada for the MLB 2022 playoff, where they’ll struggle to win many matches. Admittedly, the Yankees have made some inspiring moves this offseason, but they seem more like moves that will strengthen the team in the future rather than now.

Tampa Bay Rays vs Los Angeles Angels

Call us crazy, but the Los Angeles Angels might make the playoffs. Remember, this team has Anthony Rendon, Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Brandon Marsh, and while those are not the star players you would expect in a championship roster, they’re good enough to help the Angels reach deep.

On the other side, the Tampa Bay Rays decided to operate with a larger budget; this would be a clear favourite to win the World Series. But instead, the Rays opted to mix and match elite-level players with “potential,” hoping something might come from it.

We aren’t saying that the Tampa Bay Rays can’t look solid, but this approach will never win them the title. Still, they’re all but guaranteed to make the playoffs.

2022 MLB Season Predictions

Let’s focus on our main MLB 2022 season betting predictions, where we look over all the divisions and leagues and pick our favourites to win the World Series, MVP, and the Cy award. So without further ado, here are our MLB betting picks for the 2022 season!

Division Series Predictions – National League

  • San Francisco Giants to Win MLB NL West – 5/1

One team stands above the Los Angeles Dodgers in the MLB National League West division. They’re priced as low as 2/5, which shows how good they are but they also offer little to no value for us and might be better suited as a team for betting on MLB 2022 games individually.

Instead, we are far more interested in backing the San Francisco Giants to win the NL West at 5/1, which is too high. They were excellent last season, and while you could argue that the Giants overperformed, they should not be overlooked. The Giants seem weaker on paper due to losing Kevin Gausman, but they have enough depth to make it work.

  • St. Louis Cardinals to Win MLB NL Central – 11/5

There is no hiding the fact that the NL Central will be a 2-team race between the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals, and while you could favour the former to win the division, the Cardinals offer far more value.

After looking through the stats, we would give the Brewers an edge, but the betting lines and odds are entirely out of place. The Cardinals are priced as high as 11/5 to outperform the Bewers, which is not entirely unlikely, and there’s a higher chance for that to happen than the MLB title odds for 2022 suggest.

Remember that the Cardinals looked solid last season and strengthened their rotation with Steven Matz. The pitching depth will be crucial for their success, so we expect the St. Louis team to do well this season.

  • Atlanta Braves to Win MLB NL East – 11/10

The Atlanta Braves shocked many by winning the World Series, but even more surprising was letting Freddie Freeman walk. The Braves have helped erase some of our concerns with the addition of Matt Olson and had money left over to sign Kenley Jansen and Collin McHugh, rounding up a roster that makes us believe the Braves are good enough to make a deep ruin and reach the playoffs.

They might not win the World Series again, but they’re in a class in the National League East and deserve to be a key name in our betting strategy for this division.

  • To Win MLB National League: Atlanta Braves – 11/2

Division Series Predictions – American League

  • Houston Astros to Win MLB AL West – 11/8

When making our list of MLB 2022 betting tips for the American League West, putting Houston Astros at the top was straightforward. With the return of Justin Verlander and Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, and Alex Bregman finally feeling healthy, we expect a solid season from this team.

Although losing Carlos Correa is a huge blow, there is a good reason why all sports betting apps have Houston Astros as the top favourites to win the division. They might have flaws, but there is a massive gap between the Astros and the competition in the AL West.

  • Minnesota Twins to Win MLB AL Central – 11/2

Putting the Minnesota Twins ahead of the Chicago White Sox and even Detroit Tigers to win the MLB American League Central division might be a longshot bet, and it is, but hear us out. The Minnesota Twins are an interesting case of a team that can do exceptionally well in falling flat.

They’ve improved their rotation with Sonny Gray, and landing Carlos Correa during the offseason is a massive upgrade at shortstop, enhancing the area where the Twins struggled the last term. The only thing this team is missing is some talent on the outfield, but expect the Twins to address that before July, so we’ll get on them early and lock in the juicy offer of 11/2.

  • Toronto Blue Jays to Win MLB AL East – 13/8

Looking at the American League East division during the preseason is always fun, and that didn’t change this year. Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, and Tampa Bay Rays are more than capable of going all the way, but we prefer the Blue Jays.

Toronto’s moves this offseason inspire a lot of confidence. They lost Robbie Ray but added Kevin Gausman and Yusei Kikuchi, which is an upgrade, and with a better team around him, we can expect great things from Matt Chapman.

To keep it short, the Toronto Blue Jays look like the best team in the American League East and deserve to be added to our 2022 MLB baseball betting tips list.

  • To Win MLB American League: Toronto Blue Jays – 7/2

World Series Prediction

  • Toronto Blue Jays to Win the World Series – 8/1

If there weren’t for Shohei Ohtani, Toronto Blue Jays would enter the 2022 MLB season with an American League MVP, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He had a monstrous season in 2021 and came just short of claiming the accolade. Many eyes will be on the MVP candidate this season, but he is not the only reason one might consider adding the Blue Jays to the list of MLB betting picks for the 2022 season.

This team has some serious talent around Guerrero Jr., including Jose Berrios, Bo Bichette, George Springer, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Alek Manoah, and Cavan Biggio. Paired with Bichette, Guerrero Jr. will be a severe threat to other teams, and if Toronto can play as good as they look, they might go all the way.

The Blue Jays already made roster changes indicative of their intentions to win the World Series. And we have no reason to doubt their chances to do so. The Blue Jays’ odds of winning MLB 2022 are 8/1, which is too generous in our book.

MLB MVP 2022 Predictions

  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto Blue Jays) to Win American League MVP – 7/2

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was one of the most exciting players to come into the MLB, mainly because he is the son of the MLB Hall of Famer, Vladimir Guerrero. But despite having big shoes to fill, Guerrero Jr. delivered and had a solid rookie season, racking in 15 home runs and an incredible 69 RBIs.

Admittedly, he hadn’t posted any groundbreaking numbers in 2020, but he was, on the whole, on another level in 2021. He led the league in the American League MVP race with 48 home runs, 123 runs, 0.601 sluggish and 0.401 on-base percentage, and 1.002 on-base sluggish. Unfortunately, he couldn’t beat Shohei Ohtani, but if he can continue with this form, the 2022 MVP award is his to lose.

  • Juan Soto (Washington Nationals) to Win National League MVP – 11/4

Juan Soto leads in the National League MVP race (11/4), which is a perfect reason. With Fernando Tatis Jr. out of the action until at least July, the most legitimate competition for Soto for the NL MVP award is out of the picture.

Even though there are many great players in the NL, including Mookie Betts, you have to trust the best hitter in the MLB to take home the accolade.

Rookie of the Year Prediction

  • Bryson Stott (Philadelphia Phillies) to Win National League Rookie of the Year – 17/2

Oneil Cruz leads the way as the main favourite to win the National League Rookie of the Year (3/1), albeit value is elsewhere, namely with Bryson Stott, who the latest odds show priced as high as 17/2.

The Phillies will need a lot of help in the infield, where they lack the star power of other teams, and if things go as planned, Stott could be the man to save them. He had already shown that he is a player with all the right qualities to shine, and most importantly, he has proven that he can go yard on mistake pitches and has incredible plate discipline.

We have seen glimpses of greatness from Stott, and if he can continue showing good form, there is no denying Stott can end the season as the National League Rookie of the Year.

  • Bobby Witt Jr. (Kansas City Royals) to Win American League Rookie of the Year – 3/1

You never know what to expect from rookies, but with Bobby Witt Jr., we could be witnessing the start of a promising career. Bobby Witt Jr. is coming off a 33-home run and 29-steal season in the minors, showing he has what it takes to be a superstar.

His road to the summit won’t be easy, and Witt Jr. will have plenty of rough spots along the way. But from its looks, Witt Jr. is clearly the best rookie in the AL and the league.

CY Young Award Prediction

  • Max Scherzer (New York Mets) to Win National League Cy Young Award – 5/1

Max Scherzer has already claimed 3 Cy Young awards, and he will have an excellent opportunity to make it 4 this season. Scherzer will be the ace of the Met’s rotation in 2022, with deGrom likely on an innings limit due to his elbow issues last term.

Scherzer has already shown he is a world-class talent and will have an even better opportunity to show that in 2022. Priced as high as 5/1, Scherzer to win the Cy Young is one of the MLB 2022 betting predictions we can’t look past.

  • Gerrit Cole (New York Yankees) to Win American League Cy Young Award – 4/1

Gerrit Cole is the main favourite to win the Cy Young Award in the 2022 MLB season, and rightly so. Although many great pitchers can win this accolade, Cole stands above the rest.

He has had exceptional seasons in the past few years, and you could argue that most were worthy of the CY Young award. The former no.1 MLB draft pick was incredible with the Astros, and he has been just as impressive since he joined the Yankees.

Across the last 4 years, Cole has averaged seriously impressive ERAs: 2.88 (2018), 2.50 (2019), 2.84 (2020), and 3.23 (2021). There’s a lot of uncertainty with COVID, so any future bet is a bit of a risk, but at 4/1, it’s hard to pass on Cole to win the Cy Young Award.
