The ICC World Cup 2023 is close to the playoff stage, and India looks unbeatable at the home stadiums. Is it worth betting on the hosting team at this late stage or it’s better to choose another team with higher odds?
In our Cricket World Cup 2023 betting preview, we’ve presented the odds to win the event outright, and India was a clear favorite, paying 3.0 (2/1). However, the second most likely team to win the event, England (4.33), now sits bottom of the table with one win from seven rounds and slim chances to lift at least a bit higher.
Australia was the third favorite before the start of the tournament (5.0) and is one of the three teams that guaranteed playoffs alongside India and South Africa. The latter was regarded as the fifth favorite with the odds of 10.0 (9/1), similar to New Zealand (11.0), who are most likely to grab the last playoff spot. The pre-tournament odds for Pakistan were 8.0 (7/1), who should overpass both SA and NZ sides, but a few key losses now doubt their potential path to the trophy.

As we can see, the odds for India to win it all are still decent, although the team smashed all their opponents in the group stage. South Africa and Australia guaranteed their spots in playoffs as well, they just need to decide from what place and will surely aim for 2nd or 3rd position to avoid an early India matchup. The fight for the last playoff spot is also open, as even Afghanistan and Netherlands have theoretical chances, alongside New Zealand and Pakistan with more realistic ones.
