Betting Odds for the 2024 Chess Candidates Tournament

This year’s Chess Candidates Tournament will run from April 3–22, 2024 in Toronto, Canada. Eight of the best players will be competing for a chance to challenge Ding Liren in the upcoming World Chess Championship. Fabiano Caruana is currently the clear favorite to win the 2024 Candidates Tournament.

Magnus Carlsen’s Withdrawal from the 2024 Candidates & Participants List

Two months before the start of the competition, Fide announced the withdrawal of Magnus Carlsen from the 2024 Candidates Tournament, as Nijat Abasov replaced the Norwegian grandmaster. The seven other participants in the tournament are as follows: Fabiano Caruana, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alireza Firouzja, Hikaru Nakamura, D Gukesh, Vidit Gujrathi, and R Praggnanandhaa.

2024 Chess Candidates Tournament Winner Odds

Here are the odds for the winner of the 2024 Chess Candidates Tournament:

  • Fabiano Caruana to Win @ 2.50 (3/2)
  • Ian Nepomniachtchi to Win @ 5.0 (4/1)
  • Alireza Firouzja to Win @ 6.0 (5/1)
  • Hikaru Nakamura to Win @ 7.0 (6/1)
  • D Gukesh to Win @ 8.0 (7/1)

Fabiano Caruana is the favorite to win the 2024 Candidates Tournament, according to the best chess bookies. He is second on the Fide rankings right now and the third-highest chess player in history. Caruana is in great form and will have good winning chances. Ian Nepomniachtchi is the defending champion of the Candidates Tournament. Ian will be motivated to challenge Ding Liren again, as the Chinese grandmaster beat him in the last World Chess Championship.

Alireza Firouzja barely qualified for the 2024 Candidates Tournament. He is one of the best rising stars in chess, and he is always one of the top players in any tournament he participates in. Hikaru Nakamura had a great year in his career in 2023. He has improved his classical performance a lot, so he will be a good underdog to pick in this tournament.
