Now, less than a week after the final Grand Slam of the year, a Masters 1000-level tournament is getting underway in Guadalajara. Heading into the post-US Open swing, Ons Jabeur was in fine form. Surprisingly, she suffered an early upset in San Diego last week, but that doesn’t alter our view that Jabeur is the best bet to claim this tournament. Simply put, she’s by far the most consistent woman in this draw, with the other contenders being painfully hot and cold.
Jabeur, excluding last week’s misnomer, has consistently made deep runs over recent months, making the final of Wimbledon, quarters of Cincinnati, and round of 16 at the US Open before this. Expect her to be focused and motivated after an early loss in San Diego and take full advantage of her biggest rivals having their feet up this week.

One player who we don’t think will be able to keep it going this week is Danielle Collins. The American had a brilliant run in San Diego as well, knocking out Jelena Ostapenko and Caroline Garcia en route to the semi-finals. However, we know how notoriously difficult it is to back up strong performances week after week, and Haddad Maia is a tough opponent for Collins to face first up in Mexico. Expect an upset here, with the Brazilian winning in three.
The WTA Tour just keeps marching on in 2023, with a Masters 1000 event this week devoid of the world’s best six players. We say this will benefit Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur, who should be a cut above the rest of the draw in Guadalajara to claim her second WTA 1000 title this week.
