Stage 2, 2023 Championship League Snooker Betting Odds & TIps

For the past three weeks, the Morningside Arena in Leicester has been abuzz with snooker action, as Stage One of the 2023 Snooker Championship League has unfolded. Now, with the first leg of the competition completed, there is a brief moment for the dust to settle before players turn their attention to Stage Two, Three, and Final of the tournament in just a few days.

Key Details About the 2nd Stage of 2023 Championship League

The opening stage was not without its casualties, with the likes of Ali Carter, Gary Wilson, and Ryan Day all failing to move through their groups courtesy of a strong Chinese showing. However, all the big names have done the needful and topped their groups, meaning that those with outright bets on some of the favorites heading into the 2023 Championship League are still in with a chance of winning.

We look at how the 2023 Championship League snooker odds have shifted ahead of Stage Two and break down all the best 2023 Snooker Championship League predictions before play begins again on Monday.

Looking at the World Snooker Tour 2023-24 odds ahead of Stage Two of the 2023 Championship League, we can see that the main shifts compared to the pre-tournament odds have come courtesy of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson’s withdrawals. This pushes Judd Trump to the clear betting favorite at 6.50 (11/2), well ahead of Kyren Wilson and Mark Williams at 8.00 (7/1). Shaun Murphy is a close fourth at 9.00 (8/1) as well.

New to the top five betting favorites are Noppon Saengkham and Si Jiahui, who won Group 19 and Group 25, respectively.

Understanding the 2023 Championship League

Overview of Stage One

Stage One of the 2023 Championship League saw players split into 32 groups of four, where they played a round-robin to determine one winner. This winner advanced to Stage Two of the tournament.

Notable results across Stage One were the failure of Ali Carter, Gary Wilson, Ryan Day, Barry Hawkins, Ricky Walden, and Stuart Bingham to qualify for the next round.

Format of Stage Two & Road to the Final

Stage Two of the 2023 Championship League sees a similar format playing out, with the 32 winners from Stage One being split into eight groups of four. Again, players will contest a round robin, with the group winner moving through to Stage Three, where two groups of four will compete for qualification to the final.

One thing is for sure: while the snooker world may be mourning the withdrawal of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson from the 2023 Championship League, Judd Trump certainly won’t be. Heading into the tournament, these two were Trump’s biggest obstacle to success in the event he came so close to winning in 2020.

Now, with O’Sullivan and Robertson both out of the way before Trump has even struck a ball, the road has been cleared for the 33-year-old to claim his first Championship League title in Morningside this week. Trump did what he needed to do in the first stage of the tournament, winning 3-0 over Reanne Evans, 3-0 over Jimmy White, and drawing 2-2 with Xu Si. Expect more clinical finishing over the coming week and a trophy to be lifted on the weekend.

Tip # 2

Si Jiahui to Win Group H @ 3.25 (9/4)

Event Prediction
Si Jiahui to Win Group H

One of the more fascinating groups this week is Group H, which features two in-form Chinese players. Si Jiahui stormed to the top of Group 25 in Stage One, with big wins over Haydon Pinhey and Mark Joyce, before a tie with Mohamed Ibrahim. Pang Junxu was equally as impressive sweeping Group 24 with wins over Stan Moody, Hammad Miah, and Wu Yize.

While it may feel as though this group is something of a toss-up, hence the high winner odds for either favorite, we say Si Jiahui is the best bet. Jiahui’s 3-0 win over Mark Joyce was seriously impressive, and the 21-year-old is no stranger to the big stage, having made the semi-finals of the World Snooker Championship on debut.

The 2023 Championship League is only three weeks old, and yet we’ve already seen some excellent snooker action and plenty of options for real-money betting. Events reach a climax this week, however, as the 32 winners from Stage One come head-to-head in Stage Two of the tournament. We say Judd Trump will continue to maneuver himself into a strong position, as will Si Jiahui, who is playing some excellent snooker in Leicester.
