And it’s about to get underway this year, for the sixteenth time.

- Gujarat Titans to win @ 6.00 (5/1)
- Delhi Capitals to win @ 7.00 (6/1)
- Mumbai Indians to win @ 7.00 (6/1)
- Rajasthan Royals to win @ 8.00 (7/1)
- Royal Challengers Bangalore to win @ 8.00 (7/1)
- Punjab Kings to win @ 8.00 (7/1)
- Lucknow Super Giants to win @ 9.00 (8/1)
- Chennai Super Kings to win @ 10.00 (9/1)
- Kolkata Knight Riders to win @ 10.00 (9/1)
- Sunrisers Hyderabad to win @ 13.00 (12/1)
Those who love to bet on cricket will immediately see that bookies are predicting the Indian Premier League Season 16 to be very tight. While the Gujarat Titans are clear favorites on 6.00 (5/1), they are barely double the odds of the last played Sunrisers Hyderabad, on 13.00 (12/1). This reinforces the mantra that in T20 cricket, it’s anyone’s game.
Based on the 2023 IPL outright winner odds, the toughest rivals to the Gujarat Titans will be the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, who both sit on 7.00 (6/1). However, right behind these favorites are the Rajasthan Royal, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings, who are all on 8.00 (7/1). Even those who are out of the top five favorites are in with a chance this season, as the Lucknow Super Giants, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders are only on odds of 9.00 to 10.00 (8/1 to 9/1).
Understanding the IPL 2023 Cricket Competition
Held annually since 2008, the TATA IPL consists of ten teams from seven cities and three states across India. The IPL’s popularity has skyrocketed due to its compact format and inclusion of high-profile players from cricket teams around the world, similarly leveraging a franchise model to the English Premier League does in football.
Last Five Winners
- 2018 – Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad
- 2019 – Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings
- 2020 – Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals
- 2021 – Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders
- 2022 – Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals
The Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have traditionally dominated the IPL, winning nine of the past fifteen seasons and four of the last five. However, newcomers Gujarat Titans claimed the title last year and will be looking to signal a changing of the guard by defending their title again this year.
IPL 2023 Format
This season, the IPL will see teams split into two groups of five. Teams will then play home and away matches against all of the teams in the opposite group to them, facing each side twice and those in their own group once.
|Group A||Group B|
|Mumbai Indians||Chennai Super Kings|
|Kolkata Knight Riders||Sunrisers Hyderabad|
|Rajasthan Royals||Gujarat Titans|
|Delhi Capitals||Royal Challengers Bangalore|
|Lucknow Super Giants||Punjab Kings|
These groups are only relevant for determining the season’s fixtures, as points will be collated in a unified standings table. The top four teams will then advance to the playoffs, with the No.1 and No.2 sides competing in a Qualifier 1 Final and the No.3 and No.4 teams playing an Eliminator Final.
The winner of the Eliminator will face the loser of Qualifier 1 in a Qualifier 2 Final, with the winner of Qualifier 2 playing the winner of Qualifier 1 in the Grand Final.
Top Five Favorites & IPL 2023 Predictions
Enough of the details; here’s what you came for: Our 2023 IPL season predictions and preview. Below, our experts take a look at each of the top five favorites this year and analyze how they expect them to perform this season.
Gujarat Titans @ 6.00 (5/1)
As the defending champions, the Gujarat Titans have to be in the equation for the title in the IPL 2023. With the brilliant captaincy of Hardik Pandya, there’s every chance that Gujarat will be real title contenders.
- Captained by Hardik Pandya
- Finished 1st in IPL 2022 (Champions)
- Big names are Rashid Khan, David Miller, and Kane Williamson
The Titans have a strong batting lineup, with an all-Indian opening pair, mature middle order, and plenty of fireworks as well. The only question is around the pace bowling attack, which is a little tentative, should any injuries strike. Josh Little and Mohammad Shami lead the attack, with Rashid Khan taking care of the spin – depth is a concern, however.
IPL 2023 Prediction for the Gujarat Titans: Third
Mumbai Indians @ 7.00 (6/1)
As the IPL’s most successful franchise with five titles to their name, the Mumbai Indians will be desperate to forget last season’s horror last-place finish. They’re well placed to do so this year, having made some good signings at the IPL 2023 auction, namely Australian all-rounder Cameron Green.
- Captained by Rohit Sharma
- Finished 10th in IPL 2022
- Big names are Jofra Archer, Cameron Green, and Suryakumar Yadav
The biggest issue for Mumbai will be their bowling, as Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the IPL 2023. If Jhye Richardson or Jason Behrendorff have a big season, however, they could well be title contenders yet again.
Predicted finish for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023: Runners-Up
Delhi Capitals @ 7.00 (6/1)
After narrowly missing out on the playoffs last season, the Delhi Capitals will be eager not to make the same mistake this year. However, the loss of Rishabh Pant as a big-hitter and captain is a significant loss for Delhi, who will struggle to fill the void left by Pant.
- Captained by David Warner
- Finished 5th in IPL 2022
- Big names are Rilee Russouw, Mitchell Marsh, and Lungi Ngidi
The concern for Delhi is if their big top order fails to fire, they have a relatively unproven middle order. Even the presence of the recent T20 Cricket World Cup winner, Phil Salt, can hardly solve the issue. It feels as though their season largely pivots on the form of Warner, Shaw, and Marsh, who could carry them; or see them fall.
Royal Challengers Bangalore @ 8.00 (7/1)
Could this be the year that the Royal Challengers Bangalore finally win the IPL? They’ve finished runners-up three times but have never in 15 years lifted the trophy. Yet again, they have a strong squad, but in previous years there has been little correlation between their firepower and results.
- Captained by Faf du Plessis
- Finished 3rd in IPL 2022 (lost Qualifier 2 Final)
- Big names are Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Josh Hazlewood
Bangalore have an imposing squad, with the experience of du Plessis and Kohli at the top, the firepower of Maxwell and Karthik, with the bowling nous of Hasaranga, Hazlewood, and Siraj. It’s hard to see them not making a deep run here unless the old RCB curse kicks in once more.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Prediction for IPL 2023: Champions
Rajasthan Royals @ 8.00 (7/1)
The Rajasthan Royals will be rueing their missed opportunities in the IPL 2022, which saw them fall at the final hurdle to the Gujarat Titans in the Grand Final. After winning the inaugural IPL season, the Royals are yet to add another title and will be desperate to do so this season.
- Captained by Sanju Samson
- Finished 2nd in IPL 2022 (lost Grand Final)
- Big names are Jos Buttler, Joe Root, and Trent Boult
With two in-form English batsmen, the Royals have some hope of a title this year. However, it feels as though their squad is missing a signing or two. They’ll certainly need opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to step up in the opening slot and the likes of Kuldeep Sen with the ball as well.
IPL 2023 Rajasthan Royals Prediction: Sixth
Best 2023 Indian Premier League Tips
Enough previewing; let’s look at the cricket IPL-16 odds and get straight to the best bets we can place on IPL 2023! Below are our top two predictions, based on the latest odds from IPL betting apps:
Royal Challengers Bangalore to Win @ 8.00 (7/1)
That’s right, this is it. The year that the Royal Challengers Bangalore finally win an IPL! After years of having great squads and underperforming, we say it will all come together for RCB in the IPL 2023.
Firstly, this is a much better team when Virat Kohli is focusing on his batting rather than captaining. Last year, under Faf du Plessis’ captaincy for the first time, RCB were excellent, making a deep run to the Qualifying 2 Final, which they narrowly lost. We expect the group to be even more galvanized around du Plessis’ leadership this year and again make a deep run.
Secondly, they’ve got winners in all the right positions. They have experienced and world-class openers in Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, followed by middle-order firepower in Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik. The bowling nous of Wanindu Hasaranga will squeeze out wickets in the middle overs, while the star power of Mohammad Siraj and Josh Hazlewood is an excellent strike bowling attack.
Add in the depth of having Reece Topley and Finn Allen on the bench should any starters have injuries or poor form, and this looks like a winning side. Back them at 8.00 (7/1) and be ready to party it up in Bangalore in May!
Mumbai Indians to Make the Final @ 4.50 (7/2)
We say Mumbai will bounce back strong from their horror season last year and show why they’ve won a third of all the IPL seasons contested. Expect this strong campaign to be based around Jofra Archer rekindling his best form and Rohit Sharma having another big 500+ run season.
Mumbai will also need their Aussies to stand up, with Cameron Green costing a fat cheque in the IPL 2023 auction. However, he’s been performing well in his national duties and could well be a big reason why Mumbai make it all the way to the finals this year.
Our Recommended Indian Premier League 2023 Predictions
- Royal Challengers Bangalore to Win @ 8.00 (7/1)
- Mumbai Indians to Make the Final @ 4.50 (7/2)
The greatest cricketing spectacle on earth is about to get underway, and all cricket punters are searching for IPL 2023 predictions. Stadiums will be seething with passionate Indian fans, all going wild for their favorite IPL team. But who’s fans will have the most to cheer about this season?
We say that finally, after 15 years of trying and failing, this will be the season that the Royal Challengers Bangalore take the IPL trophy home. Under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, they looked good last year and have all the right components to make a winning run this year – but not without some stiff competition from the likes of Mumbai.
