The 2022 Formula One World Championship season continues this weekend with the long-awaited Silverstone GP (also known as the British Grand Prix), which will welcome back the world’s best F1 drivers, who will compete on the unforgiving Silverstone Circuit.

The 2022 British Grand Prix will mark the 10th race of the 2022 F1 season and the most anticipated F1 race of the year, where the home favourite Lewis Hamilton will look to defend his crown and cement himself as the most successful driver in the race’s history. However, if his performances this season are any indication, his chances of winning his 7th F1 British Grand Prix are slim to none.

So if not Hamilton, who will win the upcoming race, and who the top UK bookmakers list as the most likely winner? We will answer that and more in our betting preview while providing you with all the information you’ll need to bet on the F1 British Grand Prix 2022.

F1 British Grand Prix 2022 Odds – Bookies’ Favourites

Auto racing bookies have released Formula 1 British Grand Prix betting odds, and there aren’t any surprise names that have found themselves at the top of the outright betting markets. As usual, Max Verstappen leads the way, followed by Charles Leclerc and the rest of the field trailing behind. But surprisingly, the top-three names on the list do not include Lewis Hamilton.

Max Verstappen – 10/11

As we decide on our 2022 British GP prediction, we have to ask ourselves: will Max Verstappen win his third race in a row? He was phenomenal in Canada last time and has been undeniably the most in-form driver of the year. But we don’t have to look far to confirm that Mad Max is the most likely winner of the Silverstone GP.

Any in-play bet bookmaker you visit will have Max Verstappen priced as the top favourite, which makes a lot of sense. He has already won 6 races this season, including 5 of his last 6. And if those stats are not enough to convince you that Verstappen is in top-notch form, nothing will.

But the question remains – will Verstappen do as well on the Silverstone track, and will he manage to lead his Formula One car to the victory lane for the first time in his career? Well, he wasn’t particularly successful with that the last time he had to retire, but he had placed runner-up twice (2020, 2016).

So while he could do it, we have doubts about whether he is worth a bet at the offered price.

Charles Leclerc – 9/4

Charles Leclerc looked like Verstappen’s biggest threat for the Formula One World Championship title earlier this year. And even though he remains the only one who can potentially dethrone the Dutch driver, his chances are slowly getting slimmer and slimmer.

But those stats don’t tell the whole story. The Canadian Grand Prix marked the fourth straight race in which Leclerc wasn’t able to reach the podium, and even though he had a few highlights, Leclerc had to settle for a 5th-place finish. Moreover, the Canadian GP marked the first race – after 4 straight – where Leclerc did not start from the pole position.

Leclerc had to start the race from the back of the grid after Ferrari decided to replace his power unit. So if we keep in mind that Leclerc had to start the race from the back and has still finished 5th, then we can consider his performance in Canada a success. But can he build on that and impress at Silverstone? Only time will tell.

Sergio Perez – 9/1

The F1 British Grand Prix 2022 odds show Sergio Perez as a 9/1 underdog to win the race, which should make you wonder whether he can do it and is Perez a real contender? A simple answer is YES, but there’s more to that.

Perez had a weekend to forget in Canada, where he had a difficult qualifying campaign and eventually missed the pole position by 12 spots – having to start the race in P13. And then, 8 laps into the race, Perez had to bow out from contention due to mechanical issues.

It was far from a solid performance from the Mexican driver, but that doesn’t take away from his success this season. Perez is the current no.2 on the Formula One standings, with 129 points and one victory (Monaco). Besides the single victory, Perez also has 4 runner-up finishes and has ended the race worse than 4th only once – 18th in Bahrain.

That is extremely impressive, considering Perez wasn’t expected to battle Verstappen and Leclerc for the title. But you could doubt Perez’s chances to win in Great Britain, seeing how his best placement here was 6th in 2016. Since then, Perez has finished the British Grand Prix 9th, 10th, 17th, and 16th.

Past Winners of the Race (Last 5)

  • 2021 – Lewis Hamilton
  • 2020 – Lewis Hamilton
  • 2019 – Lewis Hamilton
  • 2018 – Sebastian Vettel
  • 2017 – Lewis Hamilton

Time and Date of the Race

The British Grand Prix is set to take place on the world-renowned Silverstone Circuit in Silverstone, England, on Sunday, July 3, at 15:00 local time (BST). It will mark the 10th race of the 2022 Formula One World Championship season and the 73rd iteration of the race.

As one of the most popular races of the season, the British Grand Prix will be broadcasted by all sporting TV channels and a plethora of online streaming websites. Unfortunately, no in-play bet bookmaker offers live streams of the race, so if you’re planning to bet in-play, you might need to use two screens to follow the action and place your bets.

Charles Leclerc to Win – 9/4

We kick off our F1 British Grand Prix 2022 predictions with an outright bet on Charles Leclerc to win the British Grand Prix. Admittedly, this might sound like a bold take, but at 9/4, it’s hard to pass on this opportunity.

Despite Leclerc’s less-than-inspiring performances over the last few races, he has looked incredible in Canada, suggesting that he might have found his stride. Moreover, Leclerc has a much better track record on Silverstone than Verstappen.

Leclerc has not finished this race worse than third across his last 3 starts, including third-place finishes in 2019 and 2020 and a runner-up in 2021. In contrast, Verstappen has just one podium finish in his previous 5 appearances.

Lewis Hamilton Podium Finish – 7/4

With our information, our 2022 British GP betting tips list must include a wager on Lewis Hamilton to finish inside the top 3. Of course, there is no hiding the fact that the 2022 season has not gone the way Lewis Hamilton hoped it would, but we wouldn’t ignore the 7-time champion ahead of his favourite race.

Hamilton has won 7 of the last 8 British Grand Prix races, which alone should be enough to convince you that he is a threat. Moreover, he went against all odds and placed 3rd in Canada, so there is no reason to believe he can’t emulate that success on his favourite track.

Charles Leclerc Fastest Qualifier – 8/11

For our final 2022 British GP prediction, we will side with Charles Leclerc to achieve the fastest qualifying run. Even though Leclerc hasn’t won as many races as he hoped for this year, he has been phenomenal in qualifiers.

The Ferrari driver has claimed pole position in 6 of 9 races this year, which is seriously impressive. And considering we have faith in Leclerc to win the race, a wager oh him to claim his 7th pole position is a no-brainer pick.

2022 British GP Betting Tips – Bonus Pick

We end our F1 British Grand Prix with a bet on Valtteri Bottas to finish top 6. He was solid in Canada (P7) and has finished outside of the top 10 only once twice this season (11th in Azerbaijan and DNF in Miami). Moreover, Bottas finished in the top-6 in 4r of his last 5 starts at Silverstone.

At 11/8, Bottas to place top-6 this weekend is an excellent bet we can’t look past.

Prediction: Valtteri Bottas top 6 finish – 11/8

Our British Grand Prix 2022 Predictions

  1. Charles Leclerc to win – 9/4
  2. Lewis Hamilton podium finish – 7/4
  3. Charles Leclerc’s fastest qualifier – 8/11
  4. Valtteri Bottas top six finish – 11/8

It concludes our Formula One British Grand Prix betting preview, offering you an insight into the racer and 4 excellent betting picks for you to follow. Before placing your bets, make sure you’re using only the best F1 bet sites and bet with the best available odds!
