F1 Austrian Grand Prix 2022 Betting Tips & Predictions

BetZillion brings you a free Formula One World Championship betting preview for the 2022 F1 Austrian Grand Prix, with expert betting picks and top odds courtesy of the top-rated motor racing betting sites.

Formula One World Championship moves from Silverstone to Austria, the home of Red Bull. As any year before, the Austrian Grand Prix promises a spectacular race with no clear favourite, granted most of the top motor racing bookmakers might disagree with that statement. But while the F1 Austrian Grand Prix 2022 odds show one thing, the question remains: Who will win in Austria this weekend?

We’ll try to answer that more with our F1 Austrian Grand Prix betting preview, where we take a closer look at the offered betting odds and tell you who you should consider as the best choice when picking a bet on the F1 Austrian Grand Prix 2022.

F1 Austrian Grand Prix 2022 – Bookies’ Favourites

There aren’t many surprises for the upcoming Formula One race in the outright betting markets. Verstappen leads the way as the main favourite to win on his home track, followed by Leclerc in second and the freshly crowned F1 winner, Sergio Perez, in third.

Max Verstappen – 5/6

Carols Sainz might have won at Silverstone, but that doesn’t change the fact that Max Verstappen is the main favourite to win the Austria GP title. And while it might seem repetitive seeing Verstappen leading the Formula One outright market week after week, you can’t argue with it.

Verstappen heads to Austria, looking to add to his haul of 6 victories on the season and, most importantly, to improve the impression he made last week. Although he looked strong throughout the weekend, luck wasn’t on his side as he suffered damage to his car, which prevented him from competing for the title.

Still, Verstappen placed 7th, which is a solid outcome given the circumstances. And when we talk about his chances to emerge as the winner of the Red Bull Ring, we must also consider that Verstappen has incredible form on his team’s circuit, having won 4 races, including 3 of the last 5. Suffice to say, anything less than a victory will be a disappointment.

Charles Leclerc – 5/2

Priced as the second favourite on the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix betting odds, Charles Leclerc will hope he can improve upon what he showed last weekend. Although he ran well at Silverstone, Leclerc could only manage a 4th-place finish, marking the 5th straight race in which he hasn’t had a podium finish.

He is now third in the F1 Drivers’ standings, well behind Verstappen and even Sergio Perez, and if he wishes to keep his dreams of competing for the crown alive, Leclerc needs to step up. Admittedly, his form since placing second in Miami has been far from optimal, but we saw what Leclerc is capable of early into the season, so he is not a driver you could write off. And even without any notable results, Leclerc is still the master of claiming a pole position, which – if he manages to do in Austria – should come in handy in his quest to outperform Verstappen.

In contrast to Verstappen, Leclerc’s form on the track is far from great. But even if Leclerc does well in qualifying and claims pole position, you could doubt his chances of winning the race. Over 4 starts here, Leclerc has 2 runner-up finishes (2019, 2020), a 9th (2018) and an 8th-place finish from 2021.

Carlos Sainz – 9/1

Carlos Sainz surprised many with his victory in England, where he claimed his career first W, and we can be sure that the Ferrari driver will look to build on that success in Austria. But if the latest Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix betting odds are to be trusted, his chances of emulating that success are slim to none.

Nevertheless, there is no denying that Sainz has fared much better than his teammate in recent weeks seeing how he hasn’t placed worse than 4th once this season – excluding the 3 races he hasn’t finished. So while Sainz might be a bit hit-or-miss, he is driving well and could be a threat for the Austria GP title, even though his best result here is 5th (2020, 2021).

Max Verstappen Fastest Qualifier – 5/4

Verstappen is in superb form and is rightly priced as the main favourite to win the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, but we would also argue that he is highly likely to claim the pole position. He has taken both pole and race win in the last 2 races here, which is a good start.

Moreover, it is fair to say that the fastest qualifier will belong either to Verstappen or Leclerc since they have been the most dominant drivers in the qualifiers this season. And even though Leclerc has been slightly more efficient in that department – with his stats showing a 60% pole position rate – Verstappen has found a new gear and is set to race on his favourite track.

At the offered betting odds, it’s tough not to add Verstappen to set the fastest qualifying time and claim the pole position to our F1 Austrian Grand Prix 2022 predictions list.

Max Verstappen Fastest Lap and Win – 6/4

We expect Verstappen to win the race, and while you could argue Leclerc can challenge him, we won’t believe that until we see it. Moreover, it’s doubtful for any driver to defeat Verstappen on Red Bull Ring, especially in the form he is currently in.

So the most straightforward choice would be to just bet on Verstappen to win, right? Perhaps, but we are adding the fastest lap to the mix, bumping our odds up to 6/4.

Lando Norris Podium Finish – 11/1

Lando Norris has always done well at the Red Bull Ring. Although he has never won here before, he qualified and raced well in 2021 when he produced a couple of highlights and helped McLaren claim the podium.

Moreover, he is an excellent driver, so it wouldn’t be too crazy to believe he will grab his first win by the end of the season. While a lot will have to go right for that to happen this weekend, a podium finish at 11/1 is a solid bet we can’t look past.

2022 Austrian GP Prediction – Bonus Pick

For our final 2022 Austrian GP prediction, we’ll put our money on Lando Norris to win at 125/1. It might sound crazy to believe Norris can do it, but he came close last year and assuming Verstappen doesn’t step up, Norris’ chances to claim his career-first W suddenly become believable. He is due some luck, and perhaps this is the week it happens.

Prediction: Lando Norris to win – 125/1

Our 2022 Austrian GP Betting Tips

  1. Max Verstappen fastest qualifier – 5/4
  2. Max Verstappen fastest lap and win – 6/4
  3. Lando Norris podium finish – 11/1
  4. Lando Norris to win – 125/1

It concludes our Formula One Austrian Grand Prix betting preview, providing you with 4 expert betting picks and predictions for this weekend’s race. Before you place your bets, visit the best betting sites in Austria and, as always, gamble responsibly!
