Looking at these ATP 2024 AO odds, it’s clear that the 10-time champion Novak Djokovic is a heavy favorite to win yet again. With odds of 2.00 (1/1), he pays less than half of the second favorite, Carlos Alcaraz, who is at 4.33 (10/3). Further off the pace are Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev, returning 7.00 (6/1) and 10.00 (9/1) respectively. After these four, odds skyrocket, with the fifth favorite Alexander Zverev paying a heavy 26.00 (25/1) to win his first Grand Slam.

Understanding the ATP Australian Open

As the first of four Grand Slams, the Australian Open is one of the most important tennis events on the calendar. It has the unique position of being very early in the season, meaning that some top players have not even begun their seasons yet (such as Alcaraz, Sinner, and Medvedev), while others have started early and grabbed some vital momentum (Alex de Minaur, for example).

Here’s how the last five finals have unfolded:

  • 2019 — Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal
  • 2020 — Novak Djokovic defeated Dominic Thiem
  • 2021 — Novak Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev
  • 2022 — Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev
  • 2023 – Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas

Played on a hard court, this tournament has traditionally been dominated by Novak Djokovic. Can anyone break the Serb’s reign? Check out our Mens AO 2024 winner picks below.

Looking at the tennis odds to win the Australian Open 2024, it’s clear that backing Novak Djokovic to lift the trophy on January 28th is the safe, conservative bet. But we also believe it is the right one. Here’s the evidence:

  • Djokovic won three out of four Grand Slams last year, making the final of the fourth;
  • He also won the year-end ATP Finals and is the current No 1;
  • The Serbian has claimed the Australian Open title 10 times before;
  • He hasn’t lost here since 2018, winning the past four in a row that he’s contested;
  • Djokovic has been there, done that 24 times previously at Grand Slams.

Fairly compelling evidence, huh? Haters will say he’s getting old, suffered a wrist injury in Brisbane, and will struggle to be motivated this year. The reality is that’s incorrect. There’s been zero indication that Djokovic’s physicality is close to dropping off yet. His wrist injury was minor and predictable (the 36-year-old was “injured” ahead of the Australian Open last year too). To top it off, losses to Alcaraz and Sinner last year will have ensured that the motivation fire under Djokovic is well and truly stoked heading into 2024.

All this to say, it’s hard to see a world where Djokovic doesn’t do what he’s been doing consistently over the past decade and a half, which is starting the year by winning the Australian Open.

Jannik Sinner to Win @ 7.00 (6/1)

Uh huh, uh huh, we just said Djokovic will win. But if there’s a world where he doesn’t, it’s one where Jannik Sinner wins instead. The Italian took enormous strides last year, making his first Grand Slam semi-final, winning a Masters 1000 for the first time, and beating Djokovic twice in the space of 10 days.

Entering a Grand Slam as a top-four seed for the first time, and with an ever-improving physique plus sky-high confidence, Sinner is a genuine threat. He’s seeded to face Djokovic in a semi-final, and while the Serbian likely wins that match over a best-of-five in Australia, Sinner is still a healthy chance. He’s shown he can do it not just once last year, and with a 7.00 (6/1) return on offer, the 22-year-old is our best bet outside of the defending champion.

Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka consistently overperforms at the Grand Slams. The world No. 56 made the round of 16 at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros last year and has been ranked as high as No. 24 in the world within the last six months.

Nishioka’s grinding, baseline game is perfect to upset Holger Rune should the Dane have an off day. To be clear: Rune is a better player than Nishioka, with far, far better weapons to win matches. However, every now and then, Rune’s mentality and body let him down. In a tournament where the 20-year-old is expected to perform, on a hot day, in the first round against an opponent that plays like a brick wall… That’s a 6.50 (11/2) bet you want to take.

Grigor Dimitrov to Win Third Quarter @ 5.50 (9/2)

He’s the man of the hour, having stormed to the Paris Masters final late last year and now breaking his title drought in Brisbane last week. Grigor Dimitrov is playing some of the best tennis of his life, reminiscent of when he got as high as world No. 3 in 2017.

The Bulgarian has a manageable section of the draw and will likely face Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals. While he is behind 6-3 in the pair’s head-to-head, Dimitrov defeated the Russian just last November in Paris. As with the likes of Jannik Sinner, Alex de Minaur, and Nick Kyrgios, once a player defeats Medvedev, they often continue doing so. With some red-hot form and a good match-up, it’s not at all inconceivable for Dimitrov to make his second Australian Open semi-final this year.
