For the next eleven days, the best men in tennis will fight it out in the heat of the California desert for the prize of lifting the year’s first Masters 1000 trophy. Well, all but two of the best men in tennis – with both Novak Djokovic (vaccine-related travel issues) and Rafael Nadal (hip injury) not competing in Indian Wells, the draw is wide open in 2023.

Daniil Medvedev will be eager to continue his 14-match winning streak, while Taylor Fritz will be looking to defend his title from last year. And don’t forget Holger Rune, who’s able to crack the Top 5 with a strong result, and we should have a fantastic tournament ahead.

Understanding the Men’s Indian Wells Open Tennis Tournament

To bet on the 2023 ATP Indian Wells, it’s key to understand the event’s history. Functioning as a staple in the men’s tennis calendar for decades now, the Indian Wells Open is the first of two Masters 1000 events that make up ‘the Sunshine Double,’ alongside the Miami Open.

These two hard court tournaments are pseudo-Grand Slams, operating a 128-player grid with 96 players in the draw. They are also the only two tournaments outside of Grand Slams to last longer than a week, with the men’s draw beginning on a Thursday and last until the following Sunday.

Last Five Winners

  • 2017 – Roger Federer beat Stan Wawrinka
  • 2018 – Juan Martin del Potro beat Roger Federer
  • 2019 – Dominic Thiem beat Roger Federer
  • 2021 – Cameron Norrie beat Nikoloz Basilashvili
  • 2022 – Taylor Fritz beat Rafael Nadal

With Taylor Fritz winning his inaugural Masters 1000 here last year, the young American has a lot of points on the line to defend this week. Can he fend off his rivals and maintain his place in the Top 5, or will he fall to one of the many other contenders in Indian Wells? Read on for our 2023 Men Indian Wells Masters predictions below.

2023 Men Indian Wells Masters Predictions

You’ve seen the odds, and you’ve heard the context – now, time for our men’s Indian Wells 2023 betting tips. Those who want to bet on the 2023 ATP Indian Wells could do worse than taking the following wagers:

Daniil Medvedev to Win @ 3.75 (11/4)

Popular US bookmakers have Medvedev as the strong favorite to win this tournament. That’s because the man is on a 14-match winning streak, having just claimed the titles of Rotterdam, Doha, and Dubai. Oh, and along the way, he did what no other tennis player has been able to do so far this year – defeat Novak Djokovic (and in straight sets, nonetheless).

Medvedev is a former World No.1, former Grand Slam champion, and renowned hard court specialist. His confidence, plus the conditions in Indian Wells, combined with the absence of Djokovic and Nadal, are the perfect recipe for a win here. Given he’s still down the rankings due to last year’s poor form/injury, his odds are still nice and healthy at 3.75 (11/4).

Diego Schwartzman to Beat Casper Ruud (Second Round) @ 3.35 (12/5)

Diego Schwartzman finally got out of the losing streak he had this year. The former World No.8 has lost his past five matches and was 1-6 in 2023 until met his compatriot Federico Coria in the first round. His winless series since the first round of the Australian Open is finally broken, and he has made it in a great fashion (6-1, 6-2). It looks like the Argentinian has finally dealt with some personal issues and returned to the winning track. His opponent was tough, in fact, as Federico Coria was the recent Cordoba Open finalist and had to be competitive but couldn’t cope with a more experienced athlete.

While Casper Ruud sits at #4 in the ATP rankings, that is the only positive for him this year. The best results for Norwegian in 2023 were round of 16 (twice) in Auckland and Acapulco just recently, and even long pauses between the events cannot help Casper to show signs of reviving. We expect the Argentinian can continue the negative stats of Ruud and fix his own one, and at the odds of 3.35 (12/5), it looks like a perspective punt to make.

High Odds Predictions for the BNP Paribas Open 2023

Those looking at our free tips for ATP Indian Wells Open 2023 and thinking that they won’t be able to retire to the Bahamas quickly enough off their winnings may want to consider our higher odds expert pick this week:

Cameron Norrie to Win @ 29.00 (28/1)

It’s been a heck of a year for Cameron Norrie so far. Finalist in Auckland, Round of 32 at the Australian Open, finalist in Buenos Aires, champion in Rio. The Brit is 16-3 for the year so far and 10-1 in his last eleven matches, including a win over World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz most recently.

Did we mention he’s also won here in Indian Wells before as well, the year before last? Throw all of these factors into the mix, and it’s almost surprising to see that a Norrie win on the 19th of March would generate as high of a return as 29.00 (28/1). That’s what the online bookies are paying, however, and we think it’s a fantastic bet to take.

And who knows, it could wind you up in the Bahamas after all…

  • Daniil Medvedev to Win @ 3.75 (11/4)
  • Diego Schwartzman to Beat Casper Ruud (Second Round) @ 3.35 (12/5)

The next eleven days will see the best in men’s tennis (well, almost) fight it out in the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season. We say that Daniil Medvedev will continue his hot form on the hardcourts of Indian Wells and pick up a fourth title in a row. But don’t hesitate to use our tennis betting tips and count out one of the year’s other in-form players, Cameron Norrie.
