Head to Head: Joshua vs Franklin

These two fighters have never met before as professionals. However, they have both fought Dillian Whyte, with Anthony Joshua prevailing by way of knockout in 2015 and Jermaine Franklin losing on a decision in 2022.

Joshua vs Franklin Odds

For those who love betting on boxing fights so much that they simply can’t wait any longer, here’s a quick preview of the Anthony Joshua vs Jermaine Franklin betting odds:

  • Anthony Joshua to win @ 1.08 (1/12)
  • Jermaine Franklin to win @ 8.00 (7/1)

Anthony Joshua’s management have followed the long boxing tradition of setting up a settler fight for the former champion after two tough losses. For all extents and purposes, the bookies are calling this one an easy win for Joshua, with odds of 1.08 (1/12) for the Brit, compared to Franklin’s 8.00 (7/1). These numbers imply this fight won’t be competitive – however, let’s dig a little deeper because four years ago, Joshua squared off against Andy Ruiz Jr. with similar odds and wound up on the canvas seeing stars.

Anthony Joshua Recent Boxing Form

It’s not been a pretty past four years for Anthony Joshua. Once hailed as Britain’s golden boy, Joshua seemed to have all the makings of a generational talent in the heavyweight division. That is until he walked into the hard-hitting of a rotund Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019 and got knocked out. Since then, Joshua hasn’t quite looked the same – he bounced back with a decision win over an out-of-shape Ruiz Jr. and a win against Kubrat Pulev but then suffered consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua’s Advantages over Franklin

Now, it’s make or break for Joshua. His chances of another title fight are hanging on by a thread, one that will almost certainly be snapped unless the Brit scores an emphatic win over Franklin. Thankfully, Joshua has several advantages – namely, his reach, experience in big fights, and overall athleticism. Unless he’s caught by a big shot, Joshua has all the weapons to canter to victory here. Also, two close defeats against Usyk made him much faster in the ring, so the movement should also be on Anthony’s side.

Jermaine Franklin Recent Boxing Form

Jermain Franklin also comes into this fight off the back of a loss, but a very different one. Last year, Franklin was expected to lose against Dillian Whyte. He did, but managed to push the former heavyweight champion the distance, showing surprising skill and determination. With the first blemish on his record, Franklin will be eager to come out and sink his teeth into another big fight, proving he’s not the easy beat Joshua may be expecting.

Franklin’s Advantages over Joshua

Franklin is outgunned in many ways against Joshua and will likely need to catch the former champion off guard with a big shot. Expect Franklin to target the body of Joshua and try to surprise his opponent with an uppercut or hook in the mid to late rounds, if possible. It’s hard to expect from him the Usyk-style, with dominant movement and many shots landed on the face of angry and motivated Anthony.

Best Anthony Joshua vs Jermaine Franklin Predictions

If you’ve read this far, chances you’re considering a bet on Joshua vs Franklin. Well, after seeing these odds from British boxing bookmakers, you’ll be chomping at the bit to get a wager in ahead of Saturday night’s clash!

Anthony Joshua to Win By Knockout @ 1.25 (1/4)

These odds aren’t the most lucrative, but they are the most secure. This fight should end in an Anthony Joshua knockout, plain and simple. Joshua has fought the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Dillian Whyte, and Carlos Takam and left them all knocked out on the ground. The reality is Jermaine Franklin isn’t the same caliber of a fighter as any of these three, so it shouldn’t be an issue for Joshua to dispatch the American.

Jermaine Franklin to Be Knocked Down in Round 1 or 2 @ 5.50 (9/2)

For Joshua, this fight isn’t about winning – it’s about winning well. The former champion knows that if he has any chance of fighting someone like Tyson Fury in the next year or so, he will have to turn a few heads. You don’t turn heads by boxing out a decision victory over a mid-level fighter like Franklin. You do it by coming out all guns blazing and ending the bout within two minutes.

It’s highly likely that Joshua will adopt this ultra-aggressive approach on Saturday night, making these odds of 5.50 (9/2) very appealing. Not to say that Joshua will win in the first two rounds, but surely he’ll land one blow hard enough to put Franklin on the floor in the first six minutes.

Fight to Go the Distance @ 4.33 (10/3)

Not convinced? Then wager on this clash to go the distance instead. It’s less likely, but there’s an argument to be made for Anthony Joshua finding it hard to get motivated ahead of this clash. After being the poster boy of boxing, he’s now fighting a nobody in a match that isn’t even PPV. Add in the fact that Franklin showed fantastic resilience and fitness to go the distance with a boxer as good as Dillian Whyte, and there’s a chance that he manages to do the same again on Saturday and go the distance with Joshua.

  • Anthony Joshua to Win By Knockout @ 1.25 (1/4)
  • Jermaine Franklin to Be Knocked Down in Round 1 or 2 @ 5.50 (9/2)

Though there are no belts on the line when Anthony Joshua and Jermaine Franklin step into the ring on Saturday night, there’s still plenty at stake for both boxers. It will be fascinating to see how this one plays out, with Joshua looking for a headline-catching win while Franklin is looking to spoil the party. We say Joshua will get those headlines, and the best boxing tips here are all about a knockdown, sooner or later.
