Aidan Hutchinson (8/15)

Aidan Hutchinson is undeniably the hottest name of the 2022 NFL Draft and rightly priced as the main betting favourite to be the no.1 overall pick. Yet interestingly, Hutchinson wasn’t even in the conversation to be the number one overall pick at the start of the 2021 season.

This only shows how people’s perception of the players can change over one season, granted Hutchinson has earned himself the status of the best college player available in the 2022 NFL Draft. With the performances he has been showing throughout the season, Hutchinson proved that he is an elite-level talent and a player every NFL team would want to have.

But even though we can’t deny Hutchinson’s talent and the fact that he is the most likely to get picked first, we doubt whether he is the best bet at the offered betting odds for the NFL draft 2022. At 8/15, his implied probability of getting picked first is 65.2% which is a bit too high. There are better picks at the latest NFL odds.

Travon Walker (8/5)

Georgia defensive lineman is the second favorite to be the no.1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, which makes a lot of sense. Travon Walker was phenomenal for the Bulldogs this season and has put together a very enviable season.

Moreover, Walker is the perfect example of a future NFL superstar with his massive frame and athleticism, which upped his value and made him a very desirable addition to an NFL team. Walker will be a nightmare to deal with for any offensive line, even as a rookie.

There is no doubt in our minds that Walker will get picked up very early. The only question is which of the top-three teams in the draft order will show the most interest in improving their backline.

Ikem Ekwonu (14/1)

North Carolina State’s Ikem Ekwonu has found himself as the third-most desirable player of the 2022 NFL Draft and the third-most likely 2022 NFL Draft betting 1st pick. Admittedly, he is priced as high as 14/1, suggesting his chances to go no.1 are slim, but you can’t argue with the rankings.

Ekwonu’s value skyrocketed after he impressed at the combine, and you can’t ignore how impressive the all-American was throughout the season. Of course, with any rookie player, there are a lot of “what ifs” as they enter the big league, but if Ekwonu’s showings this season were any indication, he should do more than fine in the NFL, largely thanks to his ability to block in any scheme.

Previous Top NFL Draft Picks

The NFL Draft is a very exciting event for the fans, bettors, and mainly for the teams, who are essentially taking a gamble on one of the rookies in hopes that they will develop into future stars. Admittedly, the player’s performance in college is usually a solid indication of how he will do in the big leagues – but that’s not always the case.

As in the NBA, some of the no.1 picks have indeed grown into NFL superstars, but there is no shortage of number one overall picks who failed to live up to the expectations and were eventually forgotten. But instead of focusing on the players who did not deliver, let’s check which are some of the most notable no.1 overall picks that have risen to fame.

Eli Manning (QB) – 2004

Eli Manning was the no.1 overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft and has only recently (2019) retired from the sport, with 125 career wins and two Super Bowl MVP awards. The San Diego Charges truly hit the nail on the head by picking Manning nearly 2 decades ago, picking up one of the best players that ever placed in the league.

Most notably, Manning ended his career as the seventh all-time in passing yards and touchdown passes. Moreover, his 210 consecutive starts are the third-highest in NFL history.

Cam Newton (QB) – 2011

If we list the best round one picks in the history of the NFL, we can’t forget about Cam Newton. The long-standing member of the Carolina Panthers and an instrumental player in the Panther’s 17-1 record entering the Super Bowl 50. Besides helping the Panthers achieve one of the most impressive records in the history of the NFL, Newton also won the 2015 MVP award, the 2010 Heisman Trophy, and the 20211 Pro Bowl and Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Matthew Stafford (QB) – 2009

Very few teams in the NFL hit the nail on the head when given a first-round pick, but the Detroit Lions are an exception, largely thanks to their decision to draft Matthew Stafford as their no.1 pick in 2009.

Stafford needs no special introduction to any NFL fan, or at least anyone who has watched the LVI Super Bowl, where Stafford led the Rams to the club’s second championship title and the first since 1999 in his first year with the team.

Mario Williams (DE) – 2006

Unsurprisingly, most no.1 picks were QBs, but every once and a while, a team opts to pick a player from another position as their first pick in the NFL Draft. In 2006, Houston Texans signed Defensive End Mario Williams to their team, which proved to be one of Texans’ best decisions in the club’s history.

Most people would rank Williams as a good player, but he was much better than people remember. Admittedly, he had an underwhelming rookie season, but he tailed 14 sacks and 14 tackles during his second and was selected to the Pro Bowl during the next two seasons, establishing himself as one of the NFL’s greatest pass rushers.

Time and Date of The Event

The 2022 NFL Draft is scheduled from April 28-30, and it will be broadcasted on all major sports TV channels, including NFL Network, ABC, ESPN, and ESPN Deportes. This year’s draft will be held in Las Vegas at the heart of the Strip, with the Draft Theater and Draft Experience located behind the LINQ and High Roller.

The 2022 NFL Draft will be split into 3 days, as follows:

  • Day 1 – Thursday, April 28 – Rounds 1
  • Day 2 – Friday, April 29 – Rounds 2-3
  • Day 3 – Saturday, April 30 – Rounds 4-7

Evan Neal No.1 Overall Pick – 20/1

In gambling, you have to take a risk to come out ahead, and that is especially true for betting on the NFL Draft. Admittedly, Aidan Hutchinson and Travon Walker are both excellent players and rightly priced as the favourites to get picked up first. But there’s more to which player will be the no.1 pick than just his talent.

We have to remember that the no.1 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft goes to Jacksonville Jaguars, who don’t need to pick the edge rusher in Hutchinson since they’re already solid in this position. The Jaguars are lacking in the offensive lineman position, which is a role Evan Neal would fit in perfectly.

Moreover, Trevor Lawrence is still being groomed, and the Jaguars badly need protection for him if they wish to achieve anything in 2022. At 20/1 on Evan Neal, this is a betting pick we can’t look past.

Kenny Pickett to Carolina Panthers – 5/4

Kenny Pickett to Carolina Panthers is priced at the shortest odds on this NFL Draft betting market, and rightly so. Barring any surprises, Pickett should head to the Panthers as the 6h overall pick and the first quarterback off the board, largely because Carolina needs to add a solid QB to the team. They have Sam Darnold, but they could do much better, and Darnold is reportedly not viewed as a long-term answer.

Malik Willis – Top 10 Pick – 8/13

Even at 8/13, Malik Willis to get picked up as one of the top-10 picks of the 2022 NFL Draft is a solid bet. We expect him to get picked up by the Seattle Seahawks, who desperately need a quarterback, following the departure of the Super Bowl-winning Russel Wilson.

Even though the Seahawks still have Drew Lock as a backup plan, they need to add a bit more quality if they wish to be competitive next season, and they should get just that with Willis.

2022 NFL Draft Predictions – Bonus Pick

Our final prediction is on Evan Neal to be a top-5 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, which is a no-brainer bet in our book. We already noted he has a good chance to be the no.1 overall, but even if the Jaguars decide not to pick Neils, Houston Texans will be ready to snatch him up as the no.3 overall pick.

Prediction: Evan Neal top 5 pick – 5/6

Our 2022 NFL Draft Betting Tips

  2. Kenny Pickett to Carolina Panthers – 5/4
