And as it stands now, 3 horses stand out from the rest as the main favourites to win the prestigious trophy.

Mo Donegal – 9/4

Mo Donegal is the early favourite for the 2022 Belmont Stakes, priced at 9/4. He did well early into the season, placing 5th in the Derby, but decided to skip the Preakness Stakes.

The son of Uncle MO and Calling Mrs Brown, instructed by a top trainer in the business, Todd A. Pletcher, Mo Donegal, carries prestige and high expectations ahead of the race. And there are good reasons for that.

Pletcher already has 3 Belmont Stakes under his belt, so he knows how to train winners. Moreover, Mo Donegal’s 5th-place finish at Kentucky might not look good, but it was the first time he failed to show.

Before the Kentucky Derby, Mo Donegal won Grade 2 Wood Memorial and Grade 2 Remsen, proving why Mo Donegal is the horse to watch.

We The People – 7/2

We The People is one of the main favourites to win the 2022 Belmont Stakes, which makes sense, given his past success. It is picking up a lot of interest from expert bettors following its dominant victory at the Peter Pan Stakes by more than 10 lengths in May, but there’s more.

The 3-year-old has won 3 of his last 4 races, which is impressive, but those results are misleading since those victories came in lower-level races. Admittedly, We The People impressed everyone at the Peter Pan Stakes, but winning the Belmont Stakes will be a much tougher challenge, as it features some of the best horses in the world, each led by a top jockey.

It brings us to We The People’s performance at Arkansas Derby in April, where the horse struggled to keep pace with the rest of the field and placed 7th. We The People is still one of the horses to watch, but there are other likely winners with better prices.

Rich Strike – 4/1

Rich Strike is priced as a 4/1 favourite to win the 2022 Belmont Stakes and is one of the favourite horses for people betting on the 2022 Belmont Stakes online. That sounds fair, seeing how Rick Strike pulled off a massive upset at Churchill Downs.

Admittedly, he hasn’t raced at Preakness Stakes 2 weeks after the huge victory, and his success at Churchill Downs can be viewed as a fluke. And that might be the case considering he was an 80/1 underdog in the first Triple Crown race.

Rich Strike now has to prove that he can win away from Churchill Downs, which seems like a challenging task. He is 2-2 at Churchill but 0-6 elsewhere, so perhaps he might not be the best pick you can take for this race on your favourite bookmaker, especially at the offered price.

Past Winners of the Race (Last 5)

  • 2021 – Essential Quality
  • 2020 – Tiz the Law
  • 2019 – Sir Winston
  • 2018 – Justify
  • 2017 – Tapwrit

You can approach betting on the 2022 Belmont Stakes online in many ways, mainly because any live betting website you visit will offer plenty of bet types for the race. Some of the most popular bet types for Belmont Stakes and any other race are Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta, and Superfecta, mainly used by those looking for higher payouts.

  • Win – a simple bet on which horse will win the race outright.
  • Place – a bet on which horse will finish inside the top 2.
  • Show – a bet on which horse will finish the race inside the top 3.
  • Exacta – a wager on which 2 horses will finish first and second in exact order.
  • Trifecta – similar to an exacta, but with the trifecta, you predict which 3 horses will finish the race first, second, and third in exact order.
  • Superfecta – an upgraded version of the trifecta, requiring you to predict which 4 horses will finish top-4 in exact order.

Mo Donegal to Win – 9/4

We kick off our Belmont Stakes 2022 predictions with Mo Donegal, the main favourite to win the 2022 Belmont Stakes. That might make him a less appealing pick for some bettors, but remember that there is a good reason why he is the horse to beat.

Not only is Mo Donegal trained by world-renowned Todd Pletcher, but Mo Donegal has an excellent record under his belt with incredible performances in any race he attended. The only race in which Mo Donegal did not shine was the 2022 Kentucky Derby, where he placed 5th, but let’s be honest, a 5th-place finish isn’t as bad as it sounds.

Even at the shortest odds in the field, Mo Donegal is worth a punt!

Nest to Win – 8/1

Many see Nest as a horse that will do well at the 2022 Belmont Stakes but not enough to win. However, since Nest has numbers and Pletcher, we have to disagree with that.

If you didn’t know, Nest is Todd Pletcher’s second entry for the upcoming 2022 Belmont Stakes, instantly making Nest an intriguing pick. There is a reason why Mo Donegal is priced at much shorter odds, but Nest is an attractive horse for those looking for a sleeper pick.

The 3-year-old has looked exceptional this season and has solid results under its belt. Nest won 2 graded stakes races, including Grade 2 Demoiselle and the Grade 1 Ashland. Nest won Suncoast Stakes between the 2 victories and has a runner-up finish from Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs.

Barber Road to Win – 12/1

Almost any Belmont Stakes 2022 betting guide you visit will tell you to pick one of the favourites and stick with that, which isn’t a terrible approach if there is value in backing the top dogs. However, we believe that no betting preview is complete without an outsider pick for a chance at more significant payouts.

Barber Road at 12/1 fits that bill as an outsider horse with a realistic chance to win the 2022 Belmont Stakes. Admittedly, he finished 6th at the 2022 Kentucky Derby, but he ran well given the circumstances and had the chops to make a splash in New York.

Most notably, Barber Road has shown in 7 of his 9 starts, while his best finish to date was a win at Keeneland and a victory at the trial race at Churchill Downs. Moreover, he has shown in 3 back-to-back graded stakes races with a runner-up finish from Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, a third-place fish at Grade 2 Rebel Stakes and another silver medal from Grade 3 Southwest Stakes.

2022 Belmont Stakes Betting Tips – Bonus Pick

We end our Belmont Stakes 2022 betting tips with a sleeper pick, Skippylongstocking, priced at 14/1. He will face tough competition next week, but Skippylongstocking is known for his endurance, which might be the key factor that can help him win the third leg of the Triple Crown.

Skippylongstocking is not a horse that will go all out early to gain a lead but instead hold back before unloading everything it has in the final stretch. You might want to consider betting on Skippylongstocking on in-play markets if he falls behind early!

Prediction: Skippylongstocking to win – 14/1

Our Belmont Stakes Predictions for 2022

  2. Nest to win – 8/1
