WTA Qatar Open 2024: Tournament Preview
For more than three decades, tennis has been heading to Doha in the first quarter of the year for the Qatar Open. This tournament is alternatively played as a WTA 1000 and WTA 500 event. This year, it’s a WTA 1000 event and the first of the year, making it one of the more significant tournaments in the women’s tennis calendar in 2024.
Here’s how the Qatar Open has unfolded over the past five years of play:
- 2019 — Elise Mertens defeated Simona Halep
- 2020 — Aryna Sabalenka defeated Petra Kvitova
- 2021 — Petra Kvitova defeated Garbine Muguruza
- 2022 — Iga Swiatek defeated Anett Kontaveit
- 2023 — Iga Swiatek defeated Jessica Pegula
Iga Swiatek has dominated in Doha for the past two years. Against a stacked field in 2024 with maximum points on offer, can the Pole make it three in a row? Read on for our 2024 Qatar Open tennis predictions.
Women’s Tennis Qatar Open 2024 Predictions
We’ve done the hard work and sorted through the WTA betting odds to find the best bets ahead of this week’s event. Based on the latest odds, here are our top WTA Qatar Open 2024 predictions:
Iga Swiatek to Win @ 3.00 (2/1)
3 (75%)
(25%) 1
Over recent years, this has been Iga Swiatek’s hunting ground. The Pole has not lost here in three years, and there are no signs things will be any different this year.
While Swiatek will be disappointed in her third-round exit at the Australian Open, the reality is she’s still in brilliant form. The 22-year-old had won 18 matches in a row heading into her loss in Melbourne, with Swiatek finishing 2023 by winning in China and Cancun before navigating the United Cup undefeated as well. She’s rested after her Australian Open loss and will be eager to defend her Doha title, knowing Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff are nipping at her heels in the rankings.
Expect another ruthless performance from Swiatek, with a tidy 3.00 (2/1) payout for her victory in Qatar.
Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff Final @ 7.00 (6/1)
3 (100%)
0
While it’s a three-horse race in Doha, we say it will be Gauff who wins the battle to join Swiatek in the final. The American has Elena Rybakina in her side of the draw, who is also paying 7.00 (6/1) to face Swiatek in the final. However, Gauff and Rybakina have been very different in terms of their consistency in recent months.
Gauff has been as solid as they come. The 19-year-old has made the semi-finals or better in all but one event she has played since Wimbledon, winning four titles. So far this year, she’s defended her Auckland title and made the Australian Open semi-finals for a record of 10-1 on the year.
Rybakina, on the other hand, has been a yoyo. The Kazakh has already amassed two titles this year, as well as two second-round losses. After winning in Brisbane in January, she promptly lost the next week. Having just won in Abu Dhabi, it would be no surprise if she fails to back up here in Doha.
Jelena Ostapenko to Win @ 23.00 (22/1)
0
(100%) 2
Hang on, aren’t there another 61 women playing in Doha that we haven’t talked about? That’s right, and Jelena Ostapenko will be one of those who’s wondering why her name isn’t in the mix.
The Latvian is 13-2 for the year and became the first woman to win two titles in 2024 when she claimed the Upper Austria Ladies Linz a week ago. Much like Rybakina, she’s as mercurial as they get. However, if she’s on, she’s on, and no one stands a chance against her. With a return of 23.00 (22/1), it’s a gamble betting on Ostapenko, but one that would well and truly pay off in Doha.
