China Open 2024 Betting Tips and Odds

The women’s tennis has been quiet in the last couple of weeks after the US Open, but we are back with a big Masters tournament this week with the Beijing Open. Iga Swiatek is the current champion, having beaten Liudmila Samsonova in the 2023 WTA China Open final, but she won’t defend her title this year due to withdrawal.

The 2024 women’s China Masters draw was held on Monday, and it promises a lot of good matchups early on. This year’s WTA China Open event will run from September 25 to October 6, and it will be held at the National Tennis Center in Beijing.

The prize fund for the women’s singles event is worth $8,955,610, as the winner will take home an enticing $1,100,000 in addition to 1000 points. Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Danielle Collins, Elina Svitolina, and Ons Jabeur withdrew from the event for different reasons.

Understanding the WTA China Open Tennis Tournament

This will be the 25th edition of the women’s China Open tournament, and we will have an expansion from 64 to 96 female players this year. The Beijing Open will be played at the end of the season, as it’s the second to last WTA Masters tournament in 2024, and the last event will be played in China as well, the Wuhan Open.

There will be 96 female participants competing for the title this year, and the top 32-seeded players will receive a bye for the first round. The format is pretty simple and similar to most of the ATP and WTA Tour events throughout the year, as it’s single elimination matches until we get a winner in the finals.

China Open History & Court Specifics

The China Open tournament is known for being one of the best tennis events in Asia. It was canceled from 2020 to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it got back stronger than ever last year as a WTA Masters event for the first time. Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki, and Agnieszka Radwanska are tied for the most women’s China Open titles (2).

The surface of the National Tennis Center in Beijing is outside hard courts, which makes the ball bounce fast and high. The players that have good power and big serves should benefit the most from their conditions, such as Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Naomi Osaka.

Aryna Sabalenka is now the clear favorite to win the tournament, especially after Iga Swiatek announced her withdrawal for personal reasons. Sabalenka has reached three WTA 1000 Masters finals this year and won one of them. Jessica Pegula is in great form as well, reaching the finals in the US Open and Cincinnati Open, but she lost both to Sabalenka. Pegula has won 15 of her last 17 matches in all competitions, so she will most probably get another deep run in this tournament.

Coco Gauff isn’t in her best form right now, having lost three of her last six matches. Qinwen Zheng will have the home crowd support in this event, so she will be a dangerous opponent to anyone, especially after winning the Olympic tennis gold medal this year. Karolina Muchova has been consistently good since returning from her injury in June, but it will be tough for her to win this big tournament right now.

The betting tennis odds for Sabalenka in this event show her strength compared to the field. Aryna has reached at least the semifinals in six of her last seven Grand Slam events. She is a beast on hard surfaces, as she is coming off back-to-back wins in the US Open and the Cincinnati Open. Sabalenka is currently on a 12-match winning streak, and she has won 16 of her last 18 matches in all competitions.

Aryna Sabalenka has a winning record over each of the other top favorites in this event, and it will be easier for her to win this Masters tournament in the absence of Swiatek and Rybakina. Sabalenka’s serve will help her a lot in these playing conditions, and she is in great form to win her fifth hard-surface title this season.

The American has been convincing in recent months, reaching two prestigious finals in a row. It makes her ability to deliver on the hard courts pretty stable, and clinching one of the few remaining big events is on the cards, so she should cope with the opposition in her quarter quite easily. The most dangerous opponent for her looks a countrywoman Emma Navarro, who lost to Sabalenka in the US Open semifinals. However, an experienced Pegula should come up to the final part of the season with better psychological and physical conditions and confirm her class.
