We say Englishman Judd Trump will indeed move towards a Triple Crown this weekend, claiming the UK Championship. Simply put, Trump has been the most consistent force in snooker in the second half of this season. While he was pipped at the finish last weekend by Mark Allen, Trump still came runner-up at the Champion of Champions.

Add Trump’s deep run last week to his recent wins at the Northern Ireland Open, Wuhan Open, and English Open, and the 34-year-old is in sizzling form. Hard to see anything changing at the UK Championship.

Ding Junhui to Win @ 26.00 (25/1)

One player who has consistently brought their best at the UK Championship is Chinese player Ding Junhui. The 36-year-old has appeared in two of the past four finals at this event and has won the tournament three times overall. Last week, he got the call to play at the Champion of Champions at the very last minute and stepped up to the mark, defeating strong Zhang Anda in his first-round clash.

With plenty of confidence and history under his belt, Junhui could well prove to be a banana skin for some big names at the UK Championship, and possibly even go all the way in York.

Can’t quite bring yourself to bet on Ding Junhui to go all the way, but fancy the logic of the Chinese star causing a bit of a stir at the UK Championship, given his track record here? Then a slightly lower stakes wager is backing Junhui to cause a first-round upset against Mark Allen.

In a repeat of last year’s final, the pair will square off in one of the first matches of the tournament, with a mouth-watering clash offering some great odds. Allen is the favorite, given his defending champion status and great form in recent events, but as mentioned above, Junhui has fared well here in the past and won in the first round last week when he wasn’t expected to. For a handy 2.20 (6/5) return, make some early money at the UK Championship by predicting the upset here.

With Ronnie O’Sullivan something of an unknown quantity heading into the UK Championship this week, back Judd Trump to win yet another tournament is the best bet we see based on the 2023 UK Championship snooker odds available. Expect the Englishman to go all the way, but not without some stiff resistance from Ding Junhui, who thrives under these conditions. Follow BetZillion’s wisdom.
