Despite failing to deliver last week, Judd Trump still sits top of the World Snooker Tour 2023-24 odds heading into the 2023 Scottish Open. Returning 5.00 (4/1), he’s a smidge ahead of Ronnie O’Sullivan, who pays 6.00 (5/1). Two-time champion Mark Selby is next with a payout of 7.50 (13/2) before a big drop off to the rest of the pack, where Mark Allen, Ding Junhui, and John Higgins all return 15.00 (14/1). Understanding the 2023 Snooker Scottish Open

This weekend will be the 30th edition of the Scottish Open, with the event being an off-and-on fixture in the snooker calendar since 1981. A reasonable prize pool is on offer, with £427,000 up for grabs and a good chunk of that going to the winner.

As the ninth ranking event of the season and part of the Home Nations Series, the Scottish Open will see a 64-man draw competing in a knockout draw, with all matches being best of seven until the quarter-finals. The quarters are then best of nine, before best of 11 in the semi-finals and a best of 17 to determine the winner.

Past Winners of the Scottish Open

  • 2018 – Mark Allen beat Shaun Murphy
  • 2019 – Mark Selby beat Lack Lisowski
  • 2020 – Mark Selby beat Ronnie O’Sullivan
  • 2021 – Luca Brecel beat John Higgins
  • 2022 – Gary Wilson beat Joe O’Connor

With doubts over O’Sullivan, Junhui in form, and Trump always threatening, Wilson will be hard-pressed to retain his 2022 title. Who will prevail? Read on for our snooker 2023 Scottish Open Open betting guide.

Last week was all about the return of Ronnie O’Sullivan to the winners’ circle and Ding Junhui’s continued success at the UK Championship. But we say Judd Trump will remind the snooker world of his all-time great credentials this week. The Englishman went on a crazy streak just a few months ago, taking down three titles in a row and consistently putting himself in the mix at the business end of tournaments.

Even at the UK Championship, despite not garnering that much attention, Trump walked his way into the semi-finals with a good win over Mark Selby in the quarter-finals. Expect him to build off this momentum in Edinburgh and claim his first-ever Scottish Open title – particularly if O’Sullivan withdraws, as rumors indicate he may.

John Higgins to Win Fourth Quarter @ 4.50 (7/2)

It’s been a quiet past few weeks for John Higgins, but expect him to rise to the occasion at his home tournament. Placed in a quarter with the in-form Ding Junhui, Higgins is returning a handy 4.50 (7/2) to win the fourth quarter, which we say is more than worth taking a punt on.

We predicted that Junhui would perform last week, which he did, but this week, we expect the Chinese player to go out early. Junhui has been notoriously inconsistent when it comes to backing up deep runs, so Higgins should have a wide-open shot at claiming the quarter here.

Luca Brecel to Win @ 23.00 (22/1)

Looking for a bet with a little more bang for its buck? Then throw out everything our known bet expert said above and go with this Scottish Open snooker prediction 2023 instead. Luca Brecel is going to storm back into form this week with his second Scottish Open title.

The Belgian has had a shocking run of form in recent months, with a plethora of first-round exits. Let’s not forget, however, that he won the World Championship earlier this year and also claimed the Scottish Open crown in 2021. The 28-year-old is better than the odds of 23.00 (22/1) indicate, so if you’re after a high-odds wager, this is certainly the one to take.

With the World Snooker Tour heading up the road to Edinburgh this week, there’s plenty of great betting action to be had on the Scottish Open 2023. We say Judd Trump will remind fans why he’s won so many events already this season and power his way to an inaugural Scottish Open title. Expect a fiery challenge from Luca Brecal, however, with Ding Junhui failing to back up his run last week in York.
