With qualifying already complete for the International Championship, the stage is set for the ninth edition of the 2023 International Championship in Tianjin. Fans can expect some competitive snooker action with a healthy prize pool of £825,000 up for grabs, along with the usual ranking points.

Looking at these World Snooker Tour 2023-24 odds, it’s no surprise who is leading the pack. Fresh off the back of his victory in Northern Ireland, Trump returns a low 4.50 (7/2). In an uncommon position of second favorite, Ronnie O’Sullivan is just behind Trump with a payout of 5.00 (4/1) should he go all the way in Tianjin.
Straddling the gap between the two favorites and the chasing pack, Mark Selby is at 7.00 (6/1). Then the odds drop off significantly to John Higgins and Neil Robertson at 12.00 (11/1) and 13.00 (12/1), respectively.
The International Championship has now become a regular ranking event on the World Snooker Tour after first being held in the 2012/2013 season. It boasts a larger prize pool than many of the European-based events and thus attracts the biggest names in the sport. However, courtesy of the Covid-19 pandemic, this will be the first edition of the International Championship since 2019.
The tournament will have a 64-player draw this year, playing best of 11 frames until the semi-finals. These will be best of 17, with the final played as a best of 19 match.

For the man who has done it all in snooker, we say that these rarities will motivate the No 1 player in the world to lock in more and claim victory in this ranking event. The Englishman has shown flashes of good form amid his recent layoffs from the WST, winning the Shanghai Masters six weeks ago. He’s known for performing in China, so backing him to win here at 5.00 (4/1) is a great bet.

If your name’s Mark, chances are you’ll make the final at the International Open. Or at least that has been the case in four of the past six editions here in China, with this particular Mark, Mark Selby, doing so twice.
Selby has been in moderate form recently, making the final of the British Open and the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters. As you’ll see below, we expect the bottom half of the draw to open up with Judd Trump losing early, and there’s every chance it will be Selby who capitalizes on this.

Judd Trump is the betting favorite to win the first quarter at the International Championship, but we say the Englishman will get upset by John Higgins in the quarter-finals. The Scotsman came perilously close to defeating Trump in their last encounter, falling 5-6 in the semi-finals of the English Open a few weeks ago. With Trump running on fumes after winning four in a row, we say Higgins will get his revenge and knock out the world No. 3 in Tianjin.
The World Snooker Tour heads back to Asia next week and should shake Chinese bookies, where the 2023 International Championship takes place in Tianjin from the 5th to the 12th of November. Judd Trump is on a hot streak, but the best bet is on Ronnie O’Sullivan in this event, who will surely take motivation from his relative underdog status. Expect a strong run by John Higgins, too, who we’re picking to send Trump home.
