The 2022 Wimbledon is just around the corner, as tennis fans from all over the world gather to watch one of the most exciting tournaments of the year. But just like the 2022 Wimbledon is a big hit amongst viewers, it’s also trendy in the betting world, as tennis punters rush to their favourite bookmaker for tennis in search of winner picks.

In this article, we will cater to the latter with our free betting preview for the 2022 Wimbledon with expert betting picks and predictions and wagering odds from the best sportsbooks for gambling on tennis.

History of the Event

Wimbledon, also known as Wimbledon Championships, is an annual tennis tournament played at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. It is the only Grand Slam tournament played on grass and one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world.

Since the first Wimbledon Championships in 1877, the tournament has always been held on outdoor grass courts. It has traditionally taken place over 2 weeks in late June and early July, starting on the last Monday in June and concluding in July with Gentlemans’ and Ladies’ finals.

Initially, the Wimbledon Championship was only a men’s tennis tournament until 1884, when the first women’s championship was introduced. Mixed doubles and women’s doubles were inaugurated in 1913 and have since remained a mainstay of the event.

Throughout its history, Wimbledon has primarily remained the same as when it was first held. The only major change happened in 1968 with the introduction of the Open Era, which allowed professional tennis players to compete in the event.

Wimbledon 2022 Odds – Bookie’s Favourites

With less than a week to go before the third Grand Slam of the year, the Wimbledon 2022 odds show a fairly reasonable picture of the favourites and which tennis players will struggle to go all the way. And once again, the bookmakers have presented us with a few familiar names who sit atop the outright betting markets.

Men’s Singles Favourites to Win

If the latest odds to win Wimbledon 2022 are correct, the men’s field has just 3 players who are considered a threat for the title. And based on how this season has been going, that’s a fair assessment.

Novak Djokovic – 4/5

Novak Djokovic is the odds-on favourite to retain his Wimbledon title, which isn’t too shocking even though he has yet to win a Grand Slam since the 2021 Wimbledon. The current world no.1 was in exceptional form when he last celebrated at the All England Club last year, but he has not been at the same level since.

Most notably, he struggled at the Olympics, then lost the U.S. Open and has not impressed throughout the 2022 season. His stats have taken a noticeable drop, and he has managed just a QF finish at the French Open, where he got knocked out by Rafael Nadal.

But despite his lack of success and significantly worse stats in 2022, there is no denying that Djopkvovic loves the English grass. And since he has been the most successful player at Wimbledon in recent years, it’s tough to argue against the offered Wimbledon betting odds 2022, which indicate that he is highly likely to win his 7th Wimbledon trophy.

Matteo Berrettini – 11/2

According to the bookmakers, Matteo Berrettini is Djokvovic’s nearest rival at 11/2, but as the Wimbledon 2022 odds show, Berrettini, while the second-favourite, is still far below the Serbian tennis superstar.

Interestingly, Berrettini is the second favourite to win the 2022 Wimbledon despite not winning a single Grand Slam in his career. But there is a good reason why he is expected to do well in England.

The Italian tennis star made the finals of the 2021 Wimbledon and has since looked progressively better. In 2021, he claimed his first Grand Slam final, on top of reaching QFs in France and the United States.

This year, he had already made the semi-finals in Australia but skipped the French Open. So despite not being nearly as successful as his main competitors, Berrettini has made at least quarter-finals in his last four Grand Slam appearances, and that’s good enough for us to keep an eye on him.

Rafael Nadal – 13/2

Rafael Nadal kicked off the 2022 season with a historic victory in Australia, adding another title in France to his total tally of 22 Grand Slam titles. An impressive feat, but he will have a hard time reaching for his third of the year in Wimbledon.

As the Wimbledon betting odds, 2022 suggest, Nadal is not the most likely player to win, which is fair, given his fitness concerns. Still, he has proven to be very potent on the English grass before, especially once the tournament’s latter stages come around.

It wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility for us to expect Nadal to contest his third Wimbledon title, even though some might be concerned about his fitness.

Women’s Singles Favourites to Win

Unlike the men’s side of the field, the women’s singles Wimbledon betting odds in 2022 are very top-heavy. The current no.1, Iga Swiatek leads the outright markets by quite a significant margin suggesting that she is the undisputed favourite to go all the way. That is fair, but there are other talented players in the mix that can spoil her plans.

Iga Swiatek – 11/8

The current no.1, Iga Swiatek was unstoppable at Roland Garros, which explains why she is the main favourite to win the 2022 Wimbledon. At 11/8, she is well ahead of her main rivals, who the bookmakers have priced at double digits.

Interestingly, Swiatek has never won in Wimbledon, nor has she come close. With her superb run in France, Swiatek won the second Grand Slam of her career and her second French Open. In her defence, she made her Wimbledon debut in 2021, when she got knocked out in round four.

It’s easy to see why many will consider Swiatek as the best bet on Wimbledon 2022, though. Sher has proven to be a class above everyone else, and if her stats in 2022 are any indication, it will take a lot to derail her on her way to her third Grand Slam.

Ons Jabeur – 10/1

Ons Jabeur was supposed to be one of the main players to compete for the French Open title, but she suffered a surprise Round 1 exit, which raised a few flags. Nevertheless, she has been playing exceptional tennis this season, winning 2 tournaments and losing to Swiatek in the final of the other one.

So despite her disappointing run in France, Jabeur is not to be overlooked. Moreover, Jabeur has one of the best serves in the world, which should prove to be a very effective tool on grass courts and let’s not forget about the variety in her game, which makes her one of the most well-rounded players on tour.

Jabeur already won a grass title in Berlin and defeated Swiatek at Wimbledon last year. But despite all that, she’s still priced as a 10/1 underdog, which is a very attractive price.

Cori Gauff – 10/1

Cori Gauff is arguably one of the most exciting players to follow as she develops into a future star right in front of our eyes. She made the finals in France, which is seriously impressive even though she had to admit defeat to vastly superior Swiatek.

On grass, Gauff has achieved some success, mainly by making the semi-finals in Berlin, where she lost to none other than Jabeur. But despite that defeat, Gauff is still a live outsider to win, mainly due to her strong serve. Admittedly, she is not at the level of Jabeur, but assuming the Tunisian player crashes out, Gauff will instantly become a strong underdog to go all the way.

Ons Jabeur to Win – 10/1

We trusted Ons Jabeur to win the French Open, but she stumbled at the first obstacle and crashed out from Round 1. It’s not a good look, but at the offered betting odds, the market seems to have overreacted to her slip-up.

Jabeur is still one of the best servers in the world, and that alone makes her a threat to win Wimbledon. On paper, she is weaker than Swiatek, but realistically, she should be priced nearly as high as she is now. She is a great value pick at 10/1 on Paddy Power and a name we will add to our Wimbledon 2022 betting tips list.

Rafael Nadal to Win – 13/2 (Each/Way)

Wimbledon 2022 is Novak Djokovic’s tournament to lose, but whether he will live up to the expectations depends more on the draw and his opponents’ form. So while the Serb is an appealing pick, Rafael Nadal presents way more value for our money.

Betting on Nadal in Grand Slams has proven to be a winning strategy, and there isn’t much to discourage us from considering the Spaniard an appealing bet on Wimbledon 2022. His fitness is a concern, but you will be hard-pressed to find better value in the men’s draw. Still, we’ll take a safer option and pick Nadal on the each-way market.

Petra Kvitova to Win – 22/1 (Each/Way)

No betting preview is complete without a sleeper pick, and for the 2022 Wimbledon, we’re looking at Petra Kvitova. Priced at 22/1 on William Hill and most other sportsbooks, Kvitova seems a bit underrated – even though there are other, better players attending the event.

She’s a multi-Grand Slam Championship winner who has done well in Wimbledon. Admittedly, she has suffered some early exits, but as history has taught us, Kvitova tends to heat up as the tournament progresses. So as long as she can avoid any early upsets, Kvitova should be in the mix to go all the way or at the very least reach the finals.

Wimbledon Predictions 2022 – Bonus Pick

We end our Wimbledon predictions for 2022 with an outsider pick on Hubert Hurkacz on each/way markets. He made the semi-finals here in 2021 and has some severe achievements on grass courts.

Admittedly, Hurkacz always seems to be around and never on top, but perhaps that will change this year? He’s a good value or a fun side pick if you get a free bet bonus.

Prediction: Hubert Hurkacz to win – 16/1 (each/way)

Our 2022 Wimbledon Predictions

  1. Ons Jabeur to win – 10/1
  2. Rafael Nadal to win – 13/2 (each/way)
  3. Petra Kvitova to win – 22/1 (each/way)
  4. Hubert Hurkacz to win – 16/1 (each/way)
