From a fan perspective, this is about as good as it gets – the winners of the first two Grand Tours facing off in the third Tour as the top two favorites. While it might seem crazy to bet against Vingegaard given how dominant his win was at the Tour de France, the reality is winning back-to-back Grand Tours is nigh on impossible and something only three men have done in history.
Roglic has had an excellent year, winning the Giro d’Italia and skipping the Tour de France to focus on the Vuelta a España. He’s won this event three times in a row between 2019-2021, and last year he was right in the mix until a crash. Back him to win here, with Vingegaard not having quite enough time to adapt.

In saying that, Vingegaard should still put in a great effort and make the top three here, barring a crash. The Dane produced one of the most stunning performances at the Tour de France last month, and that kind of form and conditioning doesn’t just go away overnight. Pick him at legal sportsbooks to go deep, but fall just short with Roglic having more gas in the tank in the latter stages.

Ayuso is a real unknown quantity at the Vuelta a España, and many are picking him to be a dark horse contender, hence his status as the fourth favorite. However, with the Spaniard having struggled with tendonitis since his third-place finish this time last year, we say that the youngster won’t threaten the podium in 2023.
The final Grand Tour of 2023 is here, and it’s going to be a good one. Jonas Vingegaard is in red-hot form, while Primoz Roglic is arriving in Spain with a point to prove. Throw in a handful of other serious contenders, and we have a real race on our hands over the coming weeks. It’s one that we believe Roglic will ultimately win, but don’t be afraid to bet on Vingegaard going deep as well.
