The UEFA Europa League is finally back with another exciting season. Sevilla are the current champions after beating Roma on penalties in a dramatic final. Some unfamiliar faces to the tournament lately will be playing this year, like Liverpool, Brighton, and West Ham. The event starts on September 21, 2023.
The 2023–24 Europa League season starts on September 21 with the group stage. Most of the UEL matches will be played on Thursday as usual, with some matchups played in parallel to the Champions League on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Sevilla are the current champions of the tournament, but they won’t defend their title as they qualified for the Championship League. The final will be played at the Aviva Stadium in the Republic of Ireland on May 22, 2024.

The Giallorossi aren’t having an ideal start to the Serie A season, as they have only one point from three matches. The new signings should make the team much better in the upcoming games, as they have added Lukaku, Aouar, Paredes, and Renato in this transfer window.
Villarreal are having a bad start to the season, losing three of their first four La Liga games. The Yellow Submarine have won their first and only Europa League title in 2021 after beating Man United. The team has sold Chukwueze, who was one of their best players, to AC Milan. Their chances to win the title aren’t that high, but they are in a relatively easy group, and anything can happen after that.
West Ham United have qualified for this year’s Europa League tournament after winning the Conference League last season. They are having one of their best-ever starts in the Premier League, as they have won three and drawn one of their first four games. The Hammers had a very strong transfer window and will have good chances of winning the UEL title.
The UEFA Europa League consists of 32 teams split equally into eight groups. The top team from each group qualifies directly for the Round of 16. Each of the second-place teams plays a two-leg elimination match against one of the newcomers from the Champions League, which are the ones that finish third in the UCL group stage. Third places, however, will go to the knockout stage of the UEFA Conference League 2023-24, just like teams from UCL join the UEL playoffs.
This will be the final tournament with this format, as a new format will be introduced starting from the 2024–25 season for all the UEFA events.
The UEFA Europa League was first established in 1971 as the UEFA Cup, and Tottenham Hotspur won the first title. Sevilla won the most titles of any other club in the world (7), followed by Inter Milan, Liverpool, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid, all with 3 trophies.
