No surprises – Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar are neck-and-neck in the betting odds and miles ahead of the rest of the field. This could well be a metaphor for how the race itself will pan out over the coming weeks, with Vingegaard and Pogacar at 2.10 and the next closest sitting at 15.00. It’s 2022 Giro d’Italia winner Jai Hindley who is poised as the third favorite in the odds, well ahead of Richard Carapaz and Mattias Skjelmose, who pay 29.00 (28/1).

The question is: with such skewed odds, where is the best value for those who want to bet on Tour de France 2023? Read on for our expert picks based on these Tour de France 2023 odds.

Understanding the Tour de France 2023

With a history dating back more than a century, the Tour de France is not only the oldest Grand Tour event on the UCI World Tour but also the most prestigious. The race has been held annually since 1903, only pausing briefly for the two World Wars.

Traditionally the Tour de France is held in July, with the majority of the race’s format remaining unchanged from year to year. While the overall race holds its shape, specific routes vary for every edition. Here’s a closer look at all the stages of the 2023 Tour de France:

20 22 July Belfort to Le Markstein Mountain 133
21 23 July Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines to Paris (Champs-Élysées) Flat 115

With over 3,400 kilometers to be covered before the 23rd of July, this race is not for the faint-hearted. But who has succeeded in the past? Here are the last five men to taste success at the Tour de France:

Last Five Winners of the Tour de France

  • 2018 — Geraint Thomas of Team Sky
  • 2019 — Egan Bernal of Team Ineos
  • 2020 — Tadel Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates
  • 2021 — Tadel Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates
  • 2022 — Jonas Vingegaard of Team Jumbo-Visma

With Pogacar being a huge favorite during the past three editions of the Tour de France, are we on track for yet another victory for the Slovenian? Or will the world’s greatest cycling race dish up some surprises, like Vingegaard’s odds being at 5.0 (4/1) in 2022? We answer this question and more in our Tour de France 2023 betting tips below.

2023 Tour de France Predictions

You’ve seen the Tour de France 2023 odds, and you’ve heard all the background – now, here’s what to do with all this information. Here are our top three Tour de France predictions for 2023:

Looking at the Tour de France odds 2023, it’s clear that this event is a two-horse race, and the betting value is found outside of the outright betting. However, we’re not ones to shy away from a pick, so our prediction for the winner of Tour de France 2023 is Tadel Pogacar.

Pogacar comes into the Tour de France off the back of a brief injury break, prior to which he was in immense form. The Slovenian dominated the spring swing and has won nine events already this year. Add to this the fact that the 24-year-old has won the Tour de France twice already and only narrowly missed out last year, and he’s a prime candidate to win in 2023.

The only question is how Pogacar will return from his fractured wrist suffered at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. However, reports are that the two-time champion has been putting in some crazy shifts on the indoor bikes to training, and we expect him to come out hot and win his third Tour de France this month.

Jai Hindley to Finish in the Top Three @ 3.25 (9/4)

Assuming that Jonas Vingegaard takes the runner-up position behind Tadej Pogacar, that leaves the final spot on the podium to be determined. We say Australia’s Jai Hindley is a strong chance to claim third at the Tour de France 2023 and is an excellent value bet at 3.25 (9/4).

Hindley has two key arguments for finishing third. First, the 27-year-old has proven he’s got the ability to win Grand Tours, claiming the Giro d’Italia title last year. Secondly, Hindley’s season is picking up at just the right time. After a slow start to 2023 that saw only one top-10 finish from nine events, the Australian powered his way to an impressive fourth-place finish at the recent Critérium du Dauphiné.

Maintain this level of form, and Hindley is in the box seat to finish behind Pogacar and Vingegaard in third.

Mikel Landa to Win a Stage @ 7.00 (6/1)

Mikel Landa is a seasoned veteran whose consistency and mindset position him well to win a stage at the 2023 Tour de France. While he is not among the favorites to do so with odds of 7.00 (6/1), we say that Landa’s ability to always be in the mix will eventually lead to the 33-year-old capitalizing on an opportunity at some stage over the 21 attempts.

Landa has been a consistent presence in 2023, finishing in the top 10 at all but one of the events he’s completed this year. Four times he’s been on the cusp of winning with top-five finishes, something Landa has done twice at the Tour de France as well, finishing 4th in both 2017 and 2020.

The biggest event in the cycling calendar is here, and we have all the best Tour de France 2023 betting tips for you. While the French bookies can’t split Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, we say that it’s the Slovakian who will gain the upper hand, hitting the French roads with a renewed freshness after his recent time off. Great value also exists in a wager on Jai Hindley to grab the final podium spot, and Mikel Landa to have a strong showing in one stage as well.
