Wimbledon 2024: Tennis Event Details

A range of fascinating plot lines are due to unfold over the coming fortnight, bringing dozens of opportunities and potential Wimbledon 2024 predictions. In the men’s event, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz continue their brilliant rivalry. Both have won a Grand Slam already this year and are jostling to claim a second–but can old dog Novak Djokovic stop both of them? He’s already been resurrected from the grave following knee surgery just days ago; an eighth Wimbledon title would be legendary.

In the women’s draw, things are as wide open as they’ll ever be. Iga Swiatek is shaky, Aryna Sabalenka has withdrawn, and Jessica Pegula is looking sharp. Can Coco Gauff and Elena Rybakina reenter the equation and make their own deep runs at Wimbledon? Read on for our tennis 2024 Wimbledon betting tips to find out.

Understanding the Wimbledon Grand Slam Tennis Tournament

Before we dive into the 2024 tennis Wimbledon odds and lay out our betting tips, a little bit of context on Wimbledon. The Grand Slam is by far the most prestigious tennis event in the world, with players dreaming about coming here to play. Not only do winners receive £2,700,000 in prize money, but they also gain a hefty 2000 ranking points and the mantle of Grand Slam champion.

Wimbledon History & Court Specifics

Something that will impact both our 2024 ATP Wimbledon predictions and our WTA Wimbledon 2024 betting picks is the surface that Wimbledon is played on. What makes this tournament unique is its grass courts.

The grass season is very short in the tennis calendar, with only three weeks between Wimbledon and the French Open. However, there’s a significant difference between the two Grand Slam’s surfaces. Grass is known for having a low, fast bounce, almost in a skidding action. It’s also challenging to move on, with less traction for shoes.

This means that players who have more experience on grass and who play a certain style (big serves, flat shots, aggressive and comfortable at the net) will have success. Over the years, it’s been Djokovic from the men’s draw who’s reigned, while for the women, things have been open since Serena William’s dominance.

For those who want to bet on 2024 Wimbledon tennis, there are three clear front runners. Depending on which bookie you look at, Sinner, Alcaraz, and Djokovic are all basically neck and neck. Most platforms give Sinner a slight edge at 2.75 (7/4), with Alcaraz close on 3.25 (9/4) and Djokovic just behind at 4.00 (3/1) too.

From here, there’s a huge drop-off: about as big as it gets in tennis betting. Hubert Hurkacz and Alexander Zverev are technically the fourth and fifth favorites at 13.00 (12/1) and 15.00 (14/1). However, there’s really a bunch of players in the next group of betting, with Jack Draper, Alex de Minaur, and Daniil Medvedev all viable options, too.

Usually, this would be a cliche pick at Wimbledon. Now, it’s slightly controversial. The 24-time Grand Slam champion has had his worst year since, well, he became Novak Djokovic. The Serb is yet to win a title in 2024 and has been plagued by injuries throughout.

However, we saw something at the French Open which makes Djokovic our pick to win Wimbledon 2024. The fire in his eyes returned. Over the past six months, the seven-time Wimbledon champion has been uncharacteristically lackluster. But this changed in Paris, when he twice fought his way back from behind to win five set matches late at night.

With his old competitive edge back, we’re not fussed about the recent knee injury. If Djokovic plays – which he says he will – then he’ll be capable of winning the title. And you’d be mad to be against him.

For the mad betters out there, here’s an alternative high-odds bet on 2024 Wimbledon tennis.

The big breakthrough moment for tennis stars only ever makes sense when viewed in retrospect. Right now, Jack Draper seems far too green and raw to win a Grand Slam. But everyone would have said that of Alcaraz before he won the US Open in 2022 as well.

Draper is a brilliant talent and has long been touted as capable of competing with the top 10. Injuries have held him back, but he’s healthy now. He’s just won a maiden ATP title – on grass as well – and he’s seeded at a major for the first time. In front of a home British crowd, this could well be his big breakthrough moment that is worth a risky punt.

Similar to the men’s event, those looking to bet on 2024 Wimbledon tennis are faced with some serious segregation in the betting odds. Swiatek, Gauff, and Rybakina are all neck and neck at the top of the pile, with the former two on 4.50 (7/2) and Rybakina right behind on 5.00 (4/1).

A big gap exists back to the next favorites. Two-time finalist Jabeur is fourth on 11.00 (10/1), before British darling and US Open winner Raducanu rounds out the top five at 15.00 (14/1).

Leading out Wimbledon 2024 predictions is Rybakina to win the tournament. The women’s draw has been blown wide open by Sabalenka’s late withdrawal, and we say this works in Rybakina’s favor.

Of the favorites to win Wimbledon, Rybakina’s case is the only one that makes logical sense. The Kazakh is a grass court specialist, having won this event in 2022. She possesses a big serve and powerful, flat groundstrokes, and moves magnificently on the surface.

While Swiatek’s spin is neutralized by grass, Gauff has never gone deep here and Jabeur is out of form, Rybakina is poised. She’s done it before in London, and we expect she’ll do it again next weekend.

High-Odds Winner Pick – Jelena Ostapenko @ 41.00 (40/1)

For those who fancy a little more bang for their buck from their WTA Wimbledon 2024 betting picks, then how about this: Ostapenko makes another of her crazy title runs.

The Latvian is one of the most hot and cold players on the WTA Tour. Earlier this year, she became the first player to win two titles, winning Adelaide and Linz before most women had strung two matches together. And then she disappeared. More specifically, Ostapenko lost five of her next nine matches.

On her day, it doesn’t matter who’s on the other side of the net from Ostapenko. She’ll play brutal, hard-hitting, ultra-aggressive tennis and take the racquet right out of her opponent’s hand, regardless of their credentials. We’re not saying this Wimbledon will be her day but for a return of 41.00 (40/1)… It might be.
