Argentina once again lead the favorites race, and for good reason! They won their third successive SVNS event in Canada days ago, so Los Pumas are heavily expected to paint the Dignity Health Sports Park white and blue. We expected New Zealand to come up with a strong response following their early exit from Perth SVNS. The All Blacks did make it to the final, but they could not overcome the final stumbling block. They are at 4.50 (7/2) to go again. Fiji and France come in third at 6.50 (11/2), while South Africa round off the top-five at 8.50 (15/2).

History of the Rugby 7s US Series

Every year in March, Rugby 7s grace the lands of the USA with a new series. The USA Sevens has been a regular Sevens event since 2004. The venue for the event has shuffled between Los Angeles, San Diego, and Las Vegas, with 10 consecutive series’ being held in Las Vegas from 2010 to 2019.

Here’s how the last five editions of the USA Sevens have panned out:

• 2018 – United States beat Argentina
• 2019 – United States beat Samoa
• 2020 – South Africa beat Fiji
• 2022 – New Zealand beat Fiji
• 2023 – New Zealand beat Argentina

In the last five editions, USA won two of the series, flattening Argentina in 2018 and Samoa in 2017. South Africa made an amazing comeback, winning by 2 points against Fiji in 2020, and Fiji again lost against the newest threat, New Zealand. Given their current momentum, it seems highly unlikely that the quadruple chasers will fail to win their pool – they have, after all, won 12 matches in a row. We expect they will struggle to keep their hot run going all the way to another title, but you’d have to be a madman to pick against them once again coming top of their pool.
