Understanding the Rolex Paris Masters 2022

This year signifies the 50th edition of the Rolex Paris Masters as the tennis world celebrates what a unique Masters 1000 event in the calendar is.

Courtesy of its timing in the tennis schedule, the Rolex Paris Masters is often an incredibly competitive event, with players jostling for the year-end No.1 spot and places at the Nitto ATP Finals still. This year is no different, and we’ll explore those plot lines in 2022 shortly.

Here’s a look at how the Rolex Paris Masters has unfolded in the past:

  • 2017 winner — Jack Sock
  • 2018 winner — Karen Khachanov
  • 2019 winner — Novak Djokovic
  • 2020 winner — Daniil Medvedev
  • 2021 winner — Novak Djokovic

Serbian Novak Djokovic heads the odds of French bookies into the 2022 Rolex Paris Masters the defending champion, having won the event six times previously.

Plot Lines Unfolding at the Rolex Paris Masters 2022

It’s been an unusual year for men’s tennis. With Novak Djokovic unable to compete in two Grand Slams, ranking points stripped from Wimbledon, and Rafael Nadal sitting a large chunk of the season out injured, the singles ranking has been turned on its head. This means two exciting plot lines will play out in Paris over the next seven days.

Final Places in the Nitto ATP Finals to Be Confirmed

On November 13, the best eight players in the world will come together to play one final tournament for 2022 to determine who wins the prestigious year-end event.

However, these eight players are not fully decided yet. Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic have all confirmed their place at the Nitto ATP Finals. Still, depending on how results go over the weekend, there will be as many as five players jostling for the last three places.

Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, and Felix Auger-Aliassime currently sit in the final three qualifying positions and will be eager to defend their spots against Taylor Fritz and Huber Hurkacz. They are desperate to claw their way into the event. All five are participants at the Rolex Paris Masters this week.

Race for the Year End No.1 Spot

Places at the Nitto ATP Finals are not all that’s up for grabs at the Rolex Paris Masters this week, with five men fighting to end the year as world No.1.

Carlos Alcaraz currently holds the No.1 position, having gained it last month when he won the US Open for the first time. However, Casper Ruud, Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Daniil Medvedev have a mathematical chance of ending the year as world No.1 and will be eager to advance their cases by claiming the 1000 ranking points on offer in Paris this week.

Perhaps the most bizarre feature of the 2022 tennis season is that Novak Djokovic, who has only lost one match since June and has won half of the Grand Slams he’s competed in this year, is ranked No.7 and is unable to end the year No.1—though many feel he’s the best player in the world currently.

Players to Watch at the Rolex Paris Masters 2022

With such a stacked draw, it’s difficult to narrow our betting preview down to a few players to watch this week. However, with the 2022 Paris Masters tennis odds by betting sites available now, here are the three players we see as being the best bets to make this week:

Carlos Alcaraz to Win @ 7.00 (6/1)

The current world No.1 is playing hot tennis in 2022 and has grabbed the ATP tour by the scruff of the neck and asserted himself.

He heads into Paris off the back of a strong performance in Basel, where he has made the semifinals and will compete for the title this weekend. Before this week, he had suffered an early exit in Astana after winning the US Open—understandable, given Alcaraz has won five titles this year and is still a teenager.

As the No.1 seed in the Rolex Paris Masters, Alcaraz will be eager to get a result before debuting at the Nitto ATP Finals a week later. With odds of 7.00 (6/1), a bet on Alcaraz will offer an excellent return.

Novak Djokovic to Win @ 2.62 (13/8)

While the former world No.1 and 21-time Grand Slam champion has been short on court time this year, when he has played – it’s been spectacular.

Since June, Djokovic has won 16/17 matches and has phenomenal stats, picking up titles at Wimbledon, Tel Aviv, and Astana. The Serbian may only be ranked No.7 in the world, but he’s playing like the man he’s been for 373 weeks of his career—the world No.1. As the No.6 seed in Paris, there’s a good chance Djokovic could meet the likes of Carlos Alcaraz or Rafael Nadal in a quarterfinal.

Djokovic will also be looking for a record-extending seventh prize in Paris this week. Odds for Djokovic to win are strong, so while they don’t offer the most lucrative return of all the bets, this is the place to put your money for a relatively safe return.

Felix Auger-Aliassime to Win @ 21.00 (20/1)

Felix Auger-Aliassime is on a 12-match win streak, including two titles in Florence and Antwerp and a recent charge to the final in Basel.

While there’s a chance that streak will end in the Swiss Indoors final against Holger Rune later today, chances are Auger-Aliassime’s streak will be extended to 13 in a row and three titles, making him an excellent bet heading into Paris. The young Canadian is playing exceptional tennis in the fourth quarter of 2022 and will be a threat in Paris next week with the added incentive of playing for a position at the Nitto ATP Finals. Expect Auger-Aliassime to be a handful as the 8th seed in this tournament.

The 22-year-old will also be chasing his first Masters 1000 title next week, and with a 21.00 (20/1) return on the Canadian winning the title, this is the bet to make.

Tennis Paris Masters 2022 Predictions

Here are our expert picks of which players to watch and bet on when the odds become available later this week:

  • Carlos Alcaraz to Win @ 7.00 (6/1)
  • Novak Djokovic to Win @ 2.62 (13/8)
  • Felix Auger-Aliassime to Win @ 21.00 (20/1)

There’s no doubt that the Rolex Paris Masters 2022 will provide an incredible week of tennis. Will Hurkacz or Fritz sneak a spot in the Nitto ATP Finals?
