Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid (2021/22 La Liga, December 12) Betting Tips & Predictions

Real Madrid Vs Atletico Madrid 2021 22 La Liga Betting Preview

The Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid odds are out, and BetZillion is back with another free football betting preview, with betting odds, courtesy of the top bookies.

Very few games get football fans’ blood pumping as the clash between 2 La Liga titans – Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, who will lock horns on Sunday, December 12.

In this La Liga betting preview, we will look at the upcoming match, the teams’ strengths and weaknesses, and provide you with our predictions.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Odds & Predictions

The Real Madrid vs Atletico betting odds are out, and to no one’s surprise, the La Liga bookmakers have chosen the Galacticos as the favourites. The odds make a lot of sense, given Real Madrid’s form, combined with Atletico’s slump.

Real Madrid to Win (EVS)

Real Madrid is expected to defeat Atletico Madrid this weekend, even though they couldn’t achieve that feat in March 2021 (1-1). Still, a lot has changed since then, namely for the better of the Galacticos.

Since their humiliating loss against Sheriff Tiraspol (1-2) in the UEFA Champions League in September and a 1-2 defeat against Espanyol less than a week later, Galacticos seemed to have shifted into a higher gear and haven’t lost a single match across 12 outings in all competitions. What’s more, Real Madrid won 11 games and drew just one (0-0 vs Osasuna) over that stretch.

So not only is Real Madrid in exceptional form, but if we look back at their head-to-head record with Atletico, Real Madrid is unbeaten across their last 5 meetings (3-2-0).

Atletico Madrid hasn’t shown anything that would inspire confidence. Not only did they fail to beat any notable opponents of late, but Los Colchoneros’ defeats against AC Milan (0-1) and Mallorca (1-2) make it even tougher to side with them for this match.

Real Madrid to win at even odds is too generous to pass on.

Both Teams to Score – No (10/11)

Real Madrid winning and low-scoring matches have been 2 recurring themes for these clashes over the last 2 years, and we can safely assume that the Madrid Derby 2021 won’t be much different, i.e., there won’t be as many highlights.

Across the last 5 Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid bouts, we have only seen more than one goal twice, including a 2-0 win for Real and a 1-1 draw in March 2021. The remaining bouts ended in a stalemate or Real Madrid winning 1-0.

The betting sites have both teams to score priced at 1.85 and offer 1.95 on the opposite scenario, which seems a bit high. Real Madrid has been excellent in the back, having kept a clean sheet in 4 of their last 5 outings – the only exception was a 2-1 win against Sevilla at the end of November.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, hasn’t been too striking in the attack, seeing how they struggled to score against Mallorca, Osasuna, and managed only 3 shots on goal against AC Milan just over 2 weeks back.

Under 2.5 Goals (4/5)

While betting on Real Madrid to win at 2.05 is a solid bet, you should also consider taking a position on the game to end in under 2.5 goals.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men are in the form of their lives, whereas we can’t say the same for Atletico Madrid. Even though Real Madrid has enough firepower to get the ball inside Atletico’s net while keeping Thibaut Courtois safe, we don’t expect to see a high-scoring affair.

Real Madrid: Solid at Home

Real Madrid led the league with a 12-3-1 record and 39 points, which sits them 7 points above Sevilla, with one more game played. Much of Real’s success is due to their strong form at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, where Ancelotti’s men have yet to lose a league match this season (5-2-0).

Admittedly, Estadio Santiago Bernabéu was the venue of Real’s humiliating defeat against Sheriff Tiraspol, but the Galacticos have since gone 5-1-0 on home soil across all competitions. That stretch includes wins against Inter (2-0), Ath Bilbao (1-0), Sevilla (2-1), Rayo Vallecano (2-1), and Shakhtar Donetsk (2-1).

Last 5 Games

  • Real Madrid 2-0 Inter
  • Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid
  • Real Madrid 1-0 Ath Bilbao
  • Real Madrid 2-1 Sevilla
  • Sheriff Tiraspol 0-3 Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid: Dire Times for Los Colchoneros

Atletico Madrid sat atop the La Liga table at this stage of last season, but they’re nowhere near the summit this term, and their defeat on Sunday against Mallorca (1-2) pushed them even further behind. It marked Atletico Madrid’s second loss of the season, which might not seem too terrible, but they’ve also drawn 5 so far (8-5-2).

With 29 points to their name, Atletico Madrid’s chances to defend the title are slim to none, and unless they find some traction soon, we might see Los Colchoneros slip down the ladder and out of the top 4.

Last 5 Games

  • FC Porto 1-3 Atletico Madrid
  • Atletico Madrid 1-2 Mallorca
  • Cadiz CF 1-4 Atletico Madrid
  • Atletico Madrid 0-1 AC Milan
  • Atletico Madrid 1-0 Osasuna

Head-to-Head (Last 5)

  • Atletico Madrid 1-1 Real Madrid (7.3.2021)
  • Real Madrid 2-0 Atletico Madrid (12.12.2020)
  • Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid (1.2.2020)
  • Real Madrid 0-0 (1-0) Atletico Madrid (12.1.2020)
  • Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid (28.9.2019)

Team News

Dani Ceballos is out with an injury for Real Madrid, while Karim Benzema remains doubtful. However, the Galacticos will likely get Benzema back for this Madrid Derby after the 33-year-old missed the UEFA Champions League clash this week.

On the side of Atletico Madrid, Kieran Trippier is out with an injured shoulder. He will be on the sidelines, joined by Stefan Savic and Luis Suarez, who picked up an injury against Porto.

Time and Date of the Event

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will clash in the 17th round of the 2021/22 La Liga season on Sunday, December 12. The bout will take place at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, Spain, where the 2 rivals will clash for the first time in exactly one year.

If you’re following our Real Madrid vs Atletico predictions, don’t forget to add this date to your calendar. And even if you’re not betting on the match, you should not miss this La Liga spectacle, broadcasted on all major TV sports channels and live streaming platforms.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid – Final Prediction

We have provided 3 solid Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid betting tips at the top of the page, but if you’re looking for a higher payout, a bet on Real Madrid to win 2-0 on the correct score market might be an appealing alternative.

As noted, Atletico hasn’t been too convincing with their attacking efforts and will likely struggle against the Real Madrid outfit, averaging 2.09 xGF and conceding only 5 across 7 home games. The Real Atletico odds on the correct score market are at around 10.0, an excellent price.

You could also wait and place a live bet on Real Madrid to win 2-0 since the betting odds will likely rise after the game starts.

Prediction: Real Madrid to win 2-0 (correct score)  – 9/1

With that, we conclude our La Liga betting preview, providing you with everything you need to know to place a smart bet on the upcoming Madrid Derby.
