Golf 2024 Genesis Invitational Odds & Favorites
Ahead of our golf Genesis Invitational predictions 2024, let’s check out what golf bookies in the USA have to say about this tournament. Here are the latest odds to win Los Angeles Open 2024:
After Rory McIlroy golf results went down in the past two weeks and Scottie Scheffler’s metronomic consistency, the American sneaks ahead into first place in the betting odds. Sitting at 8.00 (7/1), Scheffler holds a slight edge over McIlroy, who is at 9.00 (8/1), before a three-way tie for third favorite in the PGA 2024 Genesis Invitational odds ensues between Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland and Justin Thomas, all at 13.00 (12/1).
History of the Los Angeles Open Golf Tournament
The Genesis Invitational has been a regular fixture on the golf calendar for the last 98 years, with the first Los Angeles Open contested in 1926. While the event has undergone several name changes since then, it has consistently been played at the Riviera Country Club at this time of the year.
A hefty $20 million prize pool will be contested at this PGA Tour event, with the Tiger Woods Foundation organizing the tournament. With the 7,322-yard course sitting at par 71, there’s plenty of great gold action to be had over the coming days.
Past Winners of the Genesis Invitational
Here’s how this tournament has unfolded in recent years:
- 2019 — J.B. Holmes beat Justin Thomas
- 2020 — Adam Scott beat Scott Brown, Kang Sung-hoon and Matt Kuchar
- 2021 — Max Homa beat Tony Finau
- 2022 — Joaquin Niemann beat Colin Morikawa and Cameron Young
- 2023 — Jon Rahm beat Max Homa
Each of the last five years has brought a different winner in Los Angeles, with no one able to defend their title. In fact, it’s been a decade and a half since there was last a back-to-back champion at the Genesis Invitational. Will we see that trend bucked in 2024? Read on for our 2024 Genesis Invitational preview.
2024 Genesis Invitational Golf Betting Tips
We’ve poured over the top PGA Tour 2024 Genesis Invitational odds and found the bets that will give you the most bang for your buck this week. Here are the three 2024 Genesis Invitational golf betting tips that we recommend ahead of Thursday’s first tee:
Max Homa to Win Outright @ 15.00 (14/1)
1 (50%)
(50%) 1
We’ve picked world number seven Max Homa to do well in the West Coast swing of the PGA Tour already, and he’s let us down. Why should we trust the man again?
Simply put, the American’s record in California is too strong to ignore. Even though he’s had bad results the last fortnight (one T66, one missed cut), Homa loves playing in his home state of California. Of his six career titles, two-thirds have come on the West Coast. He’s had a mixed year so far, but last season, Homa won two titles on the PGA Tour, one on the DP World Tour, as well as nine other top 10 finishes.
It’s not just California that Homa thrives in; specifically, he does well in this course. Over the past three years, he’s twice been a big feature on the final day. Last year, he fell painfully short against Jon Rahm to finish runner-up, while in 2021, he pipped Tony Finau in a playoff to claim the title. Back him to go all the way and win again here in 2024 for a big 15.00 (14/1) payday.
Scottie Scheffler to Finish Top Five @ 2.60 (8/5)
2 (100%)
0
The consistency of this man is outrageous. It seems cliche to recommend a top-five bet on Scheffler this week, but with a payout of 2.60 (8/5) and a strong likelihood of yet another deep run by the American, you’d be mad not to back him to go deep.
While some of the other big names have struggled so far this season, Scheffler has yet again delivered. The world number one has two top-five finishes to his name from four events this year, with a T3 last week and a T5 to open the year at the Sentry. His other appearances haven’t been poor either – a T6 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and a T17 at the American Express.
Scheffler is yet to have a big result at the Genesis Invitational, and we say this could be his year. Back him for a top-five finish, and if he exceeds that and wins the whole thing, you’ll still make a decent return. For those who like a little bit more of a rush, try taking him with some inplay betting lines as well, particularly if he makes a slow start.
Tiger Woods to Finish 44th or Worse @ 1.72 (8/11)
2 (100%)
0
Hang on, this guy is still around? Unfortunately, yes. Given that Tiger Woods basically owns this tournament, he’s making yet another return to the PGA Tour by jumping in on the 2024 Genesis Invitational field.
Don’t expect it to be pretty though. He hasn’t played any non-Major event since this time last year, and while he did play a non-official event in December, he finished 18th out of 20 players. Barely ranked inside the world’s top 1000 these days, Woods won’t be doing anything this week other than reminding us that he’s a has-been, and missing the cut.
Our Genesis Invitational 2024 Predictions
The PGA Tour heads to California this week, where the Riviera Country Club plays host to its 60th Genesis Invitational tournament. The field is stacked, but we say local Max Homa will shake off his poor form and record a seventh career title this weekend, edging an in-form Scottie Scheffler on the final day.
