2023 PGA Championship Betting Odds, Tips & Predictions (PGA Tour 2022/23, May 18 – 21)

PGA Championship 2023 Betting Preview and Odds

Surely this is one of the most competitive years in golf’s history. It’s only May, and as we head into the second Major of the year, the World No.1 position has changed hands three times already. But it’s not only Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Jon Rahm who will be vying for the US PGA Championship title this weekend – plenty of other in-form golfers will fancy their chances too.

Key Info About the 2023 US PGA Championship

Defending champion Justin Thomas arrives at Oak Hill Country Club seeking his third US PGA Championship trophy and also to bounce back from missing the cut at the Masters in April. Rahm and Scheffler head to Rochester this week with four titles between them already this season and will be eager to add to that tally. Having Rory McIlroy with all the anger at their backs because of a disappointing year also should be considered.

Add in the resurgence of former World No.1 Jason Day, who comes into this tournament off the back of a win at the AT&T Bryon Nelson on the weekend, as well as the likes of Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, and Xander Schauffele, who are all primed to win their first Major. Mix it all up together, and we should have a fantastic four days of golf. Read on for all the best 2023 US PGA Championship golf betting tips.

Golf 2023 US PGA Championship Odds

To set the scene for the year’s second Major, here’s an overview of the top five favorites in the golf 2023 PGA Championship odds from the top golf betting sites:

  • Scottie Scheffler to win @ 8.50 (15/2)
  • Jon Rahm to win @ 8.50 (15/2)
  • Rory McIlroy to win @ 12.00 (11/1)
  • Patrick Cantlay to win @ 17.00 (16/1)
  • Xander Schauffele to win @ 17.00 (16/1)
  • Brooks Koepka to win @ 19.00 (18/1)

Just as they have been all year, World No.1 and No.2 Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm are inseparable in the betting odds here at the US PGA Championship 2023. Both men are tied on 8.50 (15/2), with a moderate lead over the third favorite, Rory McIlroy, who sits at 12.00 (11/1).

Behind these three frontrunners, the odds fall off for our joint fourth favorites, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, both at 17.00 (16/1). Rounding out the top bets, two-time winner Brooks Koepka comes in at 19.00 (18/1).

Understanding the US PGA Championship 2023

This is as big as it gets in golf. Only four times a year does men’s golf come together for a Major tournament, and the US PGA is the second of these occurrences. Formerly played in mid-August, the event now takes place in May and follows on from the Masters tournament earlier in the year.

The US PGA Championship has been played since 1916, welcoming players from the PGA Tour, European Tour, and Japan Golf Tour. There will also be LIV Golf players, as there were at the Masters in April. Contestants will be battling for a share of $15,000,000 across the par 70 course in New York.

Last Five Winners of the US PGA Championship

  • 2018 — Brooks Koepka beat Dustin Johnson
  • 2019 — Brooks Koepka beat Tiger Woods
  • 2020 — Collin Morikawa beat Paul Casey/Dustin Johnson
  • 2021 — Phil Michelson beat Brooks Koepka/Louis Oosthuizen
  • 2022 — Justin Thomas beat Will Zalatoris

With plenty of past winners in the field, but the tournament shifting back to the newly renovated Oak Hill Country Club for the first time in a decade, who has the upper hand this weekend? Can Jon Rahm get halfway to a calendar year Grand Slam and become the first European to win the US Open, Masters, and US PGA Championship? Or will Scheffler rain on his parade? Read on for our golf PGA 2023 Championship betting predictions.

US PGA Championship 2023 Winner Predictions

Love golf but love making money betting on golf even more? Then you’re in the right place. We’ve broken down all the PGA Championship odds and come up with the top USPGA 2023 predictions ahead of this tournament. Here are our four best PGA Championship 2023 betting picks:

Jon Rahm to Win @ 8.50 (15/2)

The beauty of a bet on Jon Rahm is that here you’re backing the favorite to win while still getting a fantastic 8.50 (15/2) return on your wager. And there’s a great reason for taking a punt on Jon Rahm.

To date this season, Rahm has won four of the eleven events he’s played. That’s twice as much as any other player on the PGA Tour – yes, even the World No.1 Scottie Scheffler has only won two events this season. It’s not like these were small tournaments, either. Rahm won the first Major of the year in April, the Masters Tournament, to go with his wins at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, the American Express, and the Genesis Invitational.

Add in three other top-five finishes and a further two top-ten finishes, and it’s clear Rahm is striking the ball about as good as can be this season. He comes into the US PGA Championship off the back of a second-place finish at the Mexico Open in late April and is perfectly poised to pick up another big title here.

Scottie Scheffler to Win @ 8.50 (15/2)

There is an argument that it’s rare for a golfer to back up one Major win with another at the next Major event. Those who buy into this logic may want to consider hedging their bets by taking a bet on Scottie Scheffler to win as well.

The World No.1 has been neck and neck with Jon Rahm all year. Just when it looked like the Spaniard was going to break away from the pack, Scheffler picked up wins at the WM Phoenix Open and the PLAYERS Championship, to go with top-five finishes at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, the Hero World Challenge, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and just last week at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Scheffler knows what it takes to win a Major, claiming the 2022 Masters Tournament. Coming into New York in strong form, and with a new course for all the players, this could be the American’s time for a second Major win.

2023 PGA Championship Betting Picks

Dustin Johnson Top Five @ 5.00 (4/1)

Despite the event being named the US PGA Championships, this tournament is not actually run by the PGA Tour. This means that LIV Golf players will be participating, and few are in better form than Dustin Johnson. Johnson sits second in the LIV Golf earnings list this season, having scored top-ten finishes at the Invitationals in Orlando and Adelaide and most recently winning the LIV Golf Invitational Tulsa.

But it’s not only Johnson’s form on the LIV Golf tour that makes him a great bet for a deep run at the US PGA Championship. This is a tournament that the American excels at. Twice Johnson has finished second, coming runner up in 2019 to Brooks Koepka and in 2020 to Collin Morikawa. With his current form and track record, expect Johnson to make at least a top-five run here at Oak Hills.

Playoff to Decide Winner @ 4.50 (7/2)

Since the turn of the century, five PGA Championships have been decided by way of playoff. Statistically, that puts it as about one in every four or five years that the tournament goes right down to the wire. However, we say that there’s a better-than-likely chance that we see a playoff in 2023 simply because of how tight the field is and how close the competition has been between McIlroy, Rahm, and Scheffler already this season.

We’ve seen plenty of playoffs already on the PGA Tour and, most recently, in LIV Golf. This is an excellent wager to make a healthy return on.

  • Jon Rahm to Win @ 8.50 (15/2)
  • Dustin Johnson Top Five @ 5.00 (4/1)

It’s the year of Jon Rahm, and that’s going to become very apparent on Sunday at the US PGA Championship. The 2022-23 PGA Tour has been neck and neck, and we say that’s exactly how this tournament is going to play out too. With excellent golf 2023 PGA Championship odds, backing Jon Rahm to win his second Major title of the season tops our USPGA 2023 predictions. Expect plenty of competition, however, particularly from the LIV Golf players, with Dustin Johnson, a dark horse to make a deep run.
