2023 NFL Season Betting Tips & Predictions

American football fans couldn’t be more ready for the start of the season this weekend. The Kansas City Chiefs are the defending champions after beating the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl last year. A lot of teams have made some big trades in the off-season, in addition to the NFL Draft players who will be added to the mix.

2023 NFL Season Betting Guide

The 2023 National Football League regular season starts on September 7, 2023. The Kansas City Chiefs have won their second title in four years by beating the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57, but it will be a challenge for them to win back-to-back titles, as no team has done that in the last ten years.

The regular season ends on January 7, 2024, while the playoffs start on January 13, 2024, with the Super Bowl 58 starting on February 11, 2024.

As shown in the odds, the Kansas City Chiefs are the favorites to win back-to-back titles. Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league, leading the team to two Super Bowl wins in the last four years. The Philadelphia Eagles had an outstanding season and almost won the title last year. They finished at the top of the NFC regular season with 14 wins and only 3 losses but lost to the Chiefs in the finals.

The Buffalo Bills are strong contenders, as usual. They finished in second place in the AFC regular season with 13 wins and 3 losses last year but got upset by the Bengals in the Divisional Round. The San Francisco 49ers had a pretty great year but lost horribly to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Conference Championship.

The Cincinnati Bengals have been to back-to-back AFC Conference Championship games. They haven’t lost any of their important players, but they even got a lot better with the addition of Orlando Brown Jr.

NFL 2023 Season Format & Overview

The National Football League consists of 32 teams that are split equally into the Eastern and Western Conferences. The NFL regular season has 18 weeks that determine the qualifiers for the playoffs. Each team plays 17 games and receives one bye week in the regular season. Seven teams qualify from each conference, as the top team from each division qualifies in addition to three wildcards.

The Wildcard Round comes after the regular season, then the Divisional Round, the Conference Championships, and finally, the Super Bowl. All the playoffs after the regular season are single-elimination games. The winner of the Super Bowl wins the Vince Lombardi trophy.

History of the National Football League

This will be the 104th season of the National Football League. The first-ever Super Bowl game was held in 1967, and the Green Bay Packers won the first title. The NFL legend Tom Brady, who announced his retirement this year, has the most championships of any player in history (7). The Packers have the most titles in the league (13).

NFL 2023 Divisions Betting Preview

AFC East Division: Teams Overview & Predictions

AFC East Participants AFC East Division Winner Odds Division Finish Prediction
Buffalo Bills* 2.25 (5/4) 1st
New York Jets* 3.70 (27/10) 2nd
Miami Dolphins 4.0 (3/1) 3rd
New England Patriots 9.0 (8/1) 4th

The Buffalo Bills added Damien Harris to their great offense and are looking good to go. The New York Jets will definitely push the Bills until the end of this season, as they have added both Aaron Rodgers and Allen Lazard from the Packers. The Miami Dolphins are an exciting team, but the competition in this division is so high. The New England Patriots are easily the weakest among the four teams and will most likely finish last.

AFC North Division: Teams Overview & Predictions

AFC North Participants AFC North Division Winner Odds Division Finish Prediction
Cincinnati Bengals* 2.50 (3/2) 1st
Baltimore Ravens* 3.30 (23/10) 2nd
Cleveland Browns 5.0 (4/1) 4th
Pittsburgh Steelers 6.0 (5/1) 3rd

The Bengals are one of the most exciting teams to watch, with Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr having a great connection. The Baltimore Ravens have finally extended Lamar Jackson’s contract, and they should go neck and neck with Cincinnati. Pittsburgh and Cleveland will be fighting for third place, but the Steelers have the most upside with George Pickens.

AFC South Division: Teams Overview & Predictions

AFC South Participants AFC South Division Winner Odds Division Finish Prediction
Jacksonville Jaguars* 1.65 (13/20) 1st
Tennessee Titans* 4.50 (7/2) 2nd
Indianapolis Colts 8.0 (7/1) 4th
Houston Texans 12.0 (11/1) 3rd

The Jacksonville Jaguars are the most ready team in this division, with Doug Pederson as the coach and Trevor Lawrence as QB. The addition of DeAndre Hopkins to that Titans team will be huge for them, but they are still worse than the Jags. The Houston Texans have some interesting rookies this year, and they can cause an upset, while the Colts won’t have many chances.

AFC West Division: Teams Overview & Predictions

AFC West Participants AFC West Division Winner Odds Division Finish Prediction
Kansas City Chiefs* 1.60 (3/5) 1st
Los Angeles Chargers* 4.0 (3/1) 2nd
Denver Broncos 7.50 (13/2) 3rd
Las Vegas Raiders 21.0 (20/1) 4th

The Kansas City Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champions. Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league and will lead the team to finish at the top again. The Los Angeles Chargers were hit with a lot of injuries last year, but they are now ready to have a great season. Las Vegas and Denver’s chances are slim in such a tough division.

NFC East Division: Teams Overview & Predictions

NFC East Participants NFC East Division Winner Odds Division Finish Prediction
Philadelphia Eagles* 1.87 (22/25) 1st
Dallas Cowboys* 2.90 (19/10) 2nd
New York Giants 10.0 (9/1) 3rd
Washington Commanders 20.0 (19/1) 4th

The Philadelphia Eagles went all the way to the Super Bowl last season and lost to the KC Chiefs. They have a talented team and the best QB in the division, Jalen Hurts. The Dallas Cowboys are expected to score a lot of points this season, but the Eagles are definitely more ready to take the top spot. The New York Giants had a great surprise last year by qualifying for the playoffs, and while they haven’t improved a lot, they are still better than the Commanders.

NFC North Division: Teams Overview & Predictions

NFC North Participants NFC North Division Winner Odds Division Finish Prediction
Detroit Lions* 2.40 (7/5) 1st
Minnesota Vikings 3.90 (29/10) 3rd
Green Bay Packers 5.0 (4/1) 4th
Chicago Bears* 5.50 (9/2) 2nd

The Detroit Lions had a great run at the end of last season, and they are the most anticipated team this year. The Minnesota Vikings have been overperforming for a while now and are expected to have a setback. The Chicago Bears have added DJ Moore and Chase Claypool to help Justin Fields this season, and they are capable of causing an upset now, while the Packers have gotten way worse by trading Aaron Rodgers and Allen Lazard away.

NFC South Division: Teams Overview & Predictions

NFC South Participants NFC South Division Winner Odds Division Finish Prediction
New Orleans Saints* 2.30 (13/10) 1st
Atlanta Falcons 3.10 (21/10) 3rd
Carolina Panthers* 6.0 (5/1) 2nd
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 11.0 (10/1) 4th

The New Orleans Saints have added Derek Carr to solve their QB issues, and with Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave, they should have a good season. The Atlanta Falcons have a lot of talented players, but their quarterback situation isn’t ideal. The Carolina Panthers will start with the No. 1 draft pick this year, Bryce Young, who should have an instant impact on the team, while the Buccaneers are going into a rebuilding mood after the retirement of Tom Brady.

NFC West Division: Teams Overview & Predictions

NFC West Participants NFC West Division Winner Odds Division Finish Prediction
San Francisco 49ers* 1.60 (3/5) 1st
Seattle Seahawks* 3.30 (23/10) 2nd
Los Angeles Rams 11.0 (10/1) 3rd
Arizona Cardinals 36.0 (35/1) 4th

The San Francisco 49ers finished comfortably at the top of the division last season, and they are ready to have another great year. The Niners were also one of the best teams against the spread. The Seattle Seahawks and Geno Smith surprisingly had some really good performances last season without Russell Wilson. They are a much better team than the Rams and the Cardinals.

According to the best American football odds, the Cincinnati Bengals will have some good chances to win Super Bowl 58. The team has been consistently good in the last two seasons, as they have some of the best players in the league. Joe Burrow is one of the top young quarterbacks, and he has a great offense to throw to, which consists of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd. The addition of left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. will add extra protection for the quarterback as well.

The Cincinnati Bengals have made it to back-to-back AFC championships in the last two seasons. They went all the way to the Super Bowl two years ago, so they have a lot of experience to have another go at the title.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made a big surprise by winning the AFC South Division last season over the Titans. The Jags beat the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wildcard Round, but their journey ended in the AFC Divisional Round against the Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. The team had nine wins last season, and they can only improve from that as the division has gotten weaker and with the addition of Calvin Ridley as well.

The NFC South Division is probably the weakest in the entire league right now. The Buccaneers, Panthers, and Falcons all have problems to deal with this season. The New Orleans Saints made a big trade to get Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr, who is a big upgrade over Andy Dalton. They have added Jamaal Williams from the Lions to make a monstrous backfield duo with Alvin Kamara. The Saints are the most ready team in the division.

This will be the second NFL season for Chris Olave with the New Orleans Saints. He had an impressive rookie year with 1042 reception yards. Olave will be the most likely player on the team to benefit from their new quarterback, Derek Carr. Chris had four touchdowns last season from 72 receptions, and he has a lot of room to improve in his second year.

Nick Bosa has won the Defensive Player of the Year award for his amazing performance last season. He had 18.5 sacks last year, which is the most by any NFL player. Bosa also has the most sacks in the last two seasons (34), which is two more than Myles Garrett, who is in second place. The San Francisco 49ers are one of the best defensive teams in the league, which should help Nick get the most sacks for the second straight year.
