It may seem simple. It may seem straightforward. But it also may be exactly what happens over the next three weeks in Italy. Simply put, Remco Evenepoel is the strong favorite to win the Giro d’Italia for a good reason. The Belgian is not only the highest-ranked cyclist competing this month but also in fine form. The World No.3 has claimed event wins at the Liege-Bastogne-Liege and the UAE Tour already this year, to go with a second-place finish at the Volta a Catalunya and 7th at the Vuelta a San Juan.
When it comes to Grand Tour events, Evenepoel is relatively inexperienced. Last year, he won the 2022 Vuelta, which has been his best result so far. In terms of the Giro d’Italia, he’s only raced here once before and failed to complete it after a stage 17 crash. Despite all of this, Evenepoel is by far the strongest and most in-form racer fronting up in this year’s Giro d’Italia.
The 23-year-old is laser-focused on winning the prestigious race in 2023, and while his odds are not particularly lucrative, Evenepoel is the best outright bet here.
