F1 Canadian Grand Prix 2022 Betting Tips & Predictions (June 19)

Read through our free Formula One betting preview to find the best 2022 Canadian GP betting tips with top F1 wagering odds, courtesy of the top-rated F1 bookmakers.
But just like Formula One is a spectator sport, every race presents us with excellent opportunities to place auto racing bets, and the 2022 Canada GP is no exception. In this betting preview, we will look at the best wagers for the upcoming race and provide you with value picks with top odds courtesy of the safest bookmakers.
Previous Race – Azerbaijan Grand Prix
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix promised plenty of drama, and it delivered. Once again, Charles Leclerc was untouchable in the qualifiers and claimed another pole (his 6th season). But as with the Monaco Grand Prix, Leclerc couldn’t convert his starting position.
He lost the lead to Sergio Perez at the start and regained some control after Max Verstappen’s pit stop. But unfortunately, things turned sour shortly after his Ferrari began blowing smoke, indicating the end of the race for the young driver.
As if things couldn’t get worse for Ferrari, Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz, also dropped out of the race due to hydraulic issues, rounding up a double DNF for Ferrari. With that, Verstappen had a free path to his 5th W of the season, extending his lead at the top of the Formula One standings to 21 points ahead of Sergio Perez and 34 points ahead of Leclerc!
Due to the engine failure, Leclerc will undoubtedly pick up a grid penalty in the upcoming races. But perhaps the most concerning is Ferrari’s questionable reliability, and if the Prancing Horse don’t find a solution soon, they might as well kiss the championship hopes away.
F1 Canadian Grand Prix 2022 Odds – Bookies’ Favourites
The F1 Canadian Grand Prix 2022 odds are out; this time, they show an entirely different picture from what we’re used to seeing on betting sites. Max Verstappen leads the way (5/6) as the main favourite, well ahead of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez, who are priced at much higher Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix betting odds (3/1), suggesting this should be a one-person race.
Max Verstappen – 5/6
Max Verstappen had a relatively disappointing start to the season – by his standards, but his dry streak lasted for only the opening 3 games. Since then, the defending Formula One champion has been nearly unstoppable.
After picking up 3 straight victories in Italy, the USA, and Spain, Verstappen has only slipped once – with a third-place finish in Monaco but got right back on track with his 5th victory in Azerbaijan. He was helped with Leclerc’s engine issues, but we can’t take away from Mad Max that he has been excellent throughout the season.
Sergio Perez – 4/1
No one expected Sergio Perez to challenge Verstappen and Leclerc for the title, but he sits in second place in the standings ahead of the ninth race of the 2022 Formula One World Championship season. An impressive feat by many standards for the Red Bull driver, yet also a well-deserved one.
Perez picked up his first victory at the unpredictable Monaco Grand Prix but has other impressive results, namely silver medals from Australia, Italy, Spain, and Azerbaijan. Even more impressive is that Perez recorded the fastest lap last weekend, which is a good sign.
Ultimately, Perez will have to make way for Verstappen to defend the title, but he has proven time and time again that he can be competitive. And if by some miracle, Verstappen ends up exciting the race prematurely, Red Bull will undoubtedly give Perez the green light to chase the victory – and we all know he’s more than capable of completing that quest.
Unsurprisingly, the top bookies in Canada have him tied with Leclerc as the second favourite for the upcoming race.
Charles Leclerc – 4/1
Charles Leclerc is not one of the favourites for the Canadian Grand Prix, but he is certainly someone who can win the qualifying. He has been phenomenal in securing the pole position this year (6 of 8), but that doesn’t necessarily mean he will win.
You could argue that securing a pole position in Canada will lead to victory or at least set Leclerc up for success. That’s a fair assessment, but if you’re looking to bet on the F1 Canadian Grand Prix 2022, it might be beneficial to learn that of the 40 Canadian Grand Prix held on the circuit, just 19 have been won from the pole position.
That is just under 50%, a surprisingly low number. On the other hand, the 2019 race was the first since 2014 that a driver who started from the pole position did not emerge as the winner of the race.
Past Winners of the Race
- 2019 – Lewis Hamilton
- 2018 – Sebastian Vettel
- 2017 – Lewis Hamilton
- 2016 – Lewis Hamilton
- 2015 – Lewis Hamilton
Time and Date of the Race
The F1 Canadian Grand Prix is set for Sunday, June 16, at 14:00 (2:00 p.m.) local time (EDT) at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, which returns to the schedule for the first time in 3 years. Over the years, the Grand Prix has seen many highlights and epic races around the Canadian track, and we can’t wait for the race to start to see what this year’s race will bring.
As with any Formula One race of the season, the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix will be well covered by all sporting TV channels with a live broadcast. Alternatively, you can also tune in on many live-streaming platforms or watch the race straight from in-play bet sites and bookmakers who offer live streaming.
F1 Canadian Grand Prix 2022 Predictions
The Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix betting odds are out, and while they look a bit different to what we’re used to seeing, there are plenty of solid picks we can look at. So here we will check our top-3 2022 Canadian GP betting tips and add one bonus selection for those looking for a longshot bet!
Lewis Hamilton to Finish Top-6 – 1/2
Lewis Hamilton’s season so far has been disappointing, but if he can find it in himself to show the “old” Hamilton, the Brit will set a new record in Formula One. The last time Formula One landed in Montreal. Hamilton won his 7th Canadian GP, which ties him with the legendary Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton would become the world’s most successful Canadian GP driver in history if he were to win this weekend. There is a lot on the line for the 7-time F1 champion, but it seems unlikely he will achieve the feat.
Hamilton placed 4th in Azerbaijan, 8th in Monaco and 5th in Spain. So his stats and trends indicate that Hamilton will move around the top 6 for most races. Admittedly, his Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix betting odds on a top-6 finish are slightly lower. Still, he has been immensely successful on the track and barring surprises. He should be able to achieve it.
Carlos Sainz to Finish on Podium – 13/8
Carlos Sainz is understandably one of the outsiders and likely not someone you would consider adding to your 2022 Canadian GP prediction list. But he has an outside chance to come out ahead.
Sainz has been far from phenomenal this season, but based on his recent showings, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before he picks up his first win. He has suffered from bad luck and didn’t seem that confident, but that has changed recently – at least the confidence part.
One more thing to know before you make your F1 Canadian Grand Prix 2022 predictions and fade Sainz – Ferrari has more wins (12) at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve than any other manufacturer. Besides the 12 wins, Ferrari has scored 9 fastest laps and 7 poles. Combine that with a solid driver than Sainz, and you have a perfect recipe for a strong showing.
Ferrari to Set the Fastest Lap – 2/1
As noted, Ferrari has a strong record on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and there is little to suggest the Prancing Horse won’t be just as efficient this time out. Admittedly, Ferrari has been dealing with some mechanical issues of late, which puts a huge question mark above their consistency, but 2/1 to set the fastest lap is a bit too high.
Ferrari has nine fastest laps on the track from 2019 and 2018, with the previous two belonging to Mercedes. But as we know, Mercedes are no longer what they used to be, so the battle for the fastest lap comes down to Red Bull (4/11) and Ferrari.
2022 Canadian GP Betting Tips – Bonus Pick
We expect Carlos Sainz to do well and finish on the podium, so why not place a small bet on Sainz to win the race? It’s a longshot pick, but at 16/1, it’s good value!
Prediction: Carlos Sainz to win – 16/1
Our F1 Canadian Grand Prix Predictions for 2022
- Lewis Hamilton to Finish Top 6 – ½
