Seeing Germany as the clear favorites to be the group winners isn’t that surprising. They have the home-field advantage, and they have topped their group in two of the last three editions. Switzerland haven’t lost to Germany in their last three encounters, so they have good chances of finishing at the top and being the dark horses of the event. It would be unrealistic to pick Hungary or Scotland to win the group, but they will be competing for second place.

Germany National Football Team

Germany will be looking to be in the sole lead for the most Euro trophies, as they are now tied with Spain with three titles each. The Mannschaft will be under immense pressure to win at home in this event, and they are the 3rd favorites according to the outright odds to win the tournament.

The Euro Germany 2024 squad has seen some key players absent for different reasons. Serge Gnabry was ruled out of the team due to his injury with Bayern Munich, while Mats Hummels and Leon Goretzka weren’t selected by coach Julian Nagelsmann. The key players for the team will be Ilkay Gundogan, Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane, and Toni Kroos, who will be playing his last Euro before retiring.

Switzerland National Football Team

Switzerland will be looking to reach the later knockout stages, at least in this tournament. They made a massive upset by beating France in round 16 of the last edition, and they always perform well as underdogs. This will be the sixth edition for Switzerland, and they have never won the title.

The Rossocrociati are very solid at the back, with Yann Sommer as the goalkeeper and Manuel Akanji, Nico Elvedi, and Ricardo Rodriguez in defense. Porven veterans Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri are also in the Switzerland squad, as usual.

Hungary National Football Team

Hungary’s best result at the Euros was finishing third, which happened exactly 60 years ago. Their goal will be to qualify from this group, which won’t be an easy task with such high competition. The Magyarok have some noticeable players that can make some noise.

The key player for Hungary is definitely Dominik Szoboszlai. The Liverpool midfielder will be looking to impress in the Euro as the team’s captain. They have a shaky squad and latest performances, but the RB Leipzig duo of Peter Gulacsi at the goal and Willi Orban as the centreback have enough experience to help the team.

Scotland National Football Team

Scotland have never made it to the Euro knockouts, and their sole goal will be to qualify from the group stage this time. They have done well in the 2024 Euro qualification, finishing second behind Spain in a tough group. The Tartan Army has improved a lot in recent years, so their chances are there to qualify.

The Scottish team will miss Nathan Patterson in defense, but they have alternatives to replace him. Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney will occupy defense positions, while their midfield is stacked with proven soldiers like John McGinn, Scott McTominay, and Callum McGregor.

Group A Schedule & Group Stage Predictions

Matchup Date Venue Predicted Winner
Germany vs Scotland June 14 Allianz Arena Germany
Hungary vs Switzerland June 15 RheinEnergieStadion Switzerland
Germany vs Hungary June 19 MHPArena Germany
Scotland vs Switzerland June 19 RheinEnergieStadion Draw
Switzerland vs Germany June 23 Deutsche Bank Park Draw
Scotland vs Hungary June 23 MHPArena Scotland

We expect Hungary to lose all the matches in the group, as both Scotland and Switzerland have looked stronger in recent matches. Germany should be an easy winner of the quartet, but not without some slip-ups against the Swiss or Scottish teams.

Switzerland have shown what they are capable of in the last few years, and they have more experience than Hungary and Scotland in this tournament. The Rossocrociati are the second most complete team in Group A, and you can even bet on Switzerland to upset Germany for first place. They have only one loss in their last 12 games and are in good form as well.

The Euro 2024 betting sites have some enticing odds for Switzerland to finish in the top 2. They are very solid defensively, and they are capable of upsetting even the big teams, so we don’t see why they wouldn’t qualify from this group.

Germany haven’t been the same since winning the 2014 World Cup title. They got knocked out of the group stage of the last two World Cup editions, and they lost in the round of 16 in the 2020 Euro tournament. They scored six goals only in the last Euro edition and seven goals in the 2016 Euro as well, going under 10.5 total in four consecutive Euro Championships. The Mannschaft have been a little shaky lately, as they have only two wins in their last five games, so it’s unlikely that they will score more than ten goals unless they reach the advanced stages.

Hungary to Finish at the Bottom of Group A @ 3.0 (2/1)

The off shore betting apps think there’s a good chance that Hungary finish at the bottom of Group A. They have a talented team, but they lack experience at such big tournaments. The Magyarok will most likely be competing with Scotland for third place, so Hungary will be at a big risk of finishing last. Their defense isn’t that great, and they are lacking a top forward to finish the chances created by midfield, so we will bet on Hungary getting the last place in Group A.

This group is expected to be wide open, and any of the teams can qualify. We will be going with Switzerland to be the dark horse and Hungary to fail and finish at the bottom.
