David Benavidez Recent Boxing Form

Benavidez is coming into this title fight off the back of an impressive win over Caleb Plant earlier this year. While he won by unanimous decision, this was the first time in seven fights he went the distance, with all of his other bouts ending in knockouts. The Mexican-American has an 85% knockout rate, ending 23 of 27 fights this way.

Benavidez Advantages Over Andrade

This is a fascinating match-up because of what each boxer brings. For Benavidez, it’s youth, power, and an ability to fight fast with furious combinations. He’ll be able to take the fight to Andrade, put him under pressure, and always has the potential to end it with one shot.

Demetrius Andrade Recent Boxing Form

Andrade also comes into this clash off the back of a unanimous decision win earlier in the year, having defeated Demond Nicholson in January. That was his first time in the ring in more than a year, having won twice in 2021. The 35-year-old has been iterating between going the distance and winning by knockout, with a 59% knockout rate.

Andrade Advantages Over Benavidez

Experience, skill, stance. Andrade has been a champion in other weight divisions and knows how to hold himself at this level. He fights Southpaw and has genuine skill in the ring. Despite all of this, in many ways, he’s an unknown quantity against a boxer of Benavidez’s caliber.

With so much on the line in this bout, many are picking David Benavidez to win. That may well be the case but don’t expect it to necessarily be by knockout, as the 27-year-old has won the majority of his fights to date. We saw what happened earlier this year when Benavidez shared the ring with a genuinely skilled boxer in Caleb Plant – the fight went the distance.

Andrade’s southpaw stance will be unfamiliar to Benavidez and could well disrupt his rhythm (he last fought a southpaw in 2016). Whether or not this leads to a victory for the veteran is another question, but we strongly suggest that this will be a tightly contested bout that goes the distance, regardless of who wins it.

Flowing off the argument above, Benavidez is the best bet to win this clash, but we see it going down to points. Andrade has the skill to elude Benavidez for the majority of this bout, and his stance should trouble the Mexican-American. The overall smothering pressure of Benavidez should get him the win on the judges’ cards, but we don’t see a knockout for the 27-year-old.

Who we could see winning by knockout, however, is Andrade. There is a scenario where the veteran gets behind in the fight and, heading into the latter rounds, knows that a knockout is his only path to victory. It would be more than that as well because, at age 35, a loss here would mean no more title fights, ever. With his entire career on the line and 19 past opponents testifying to Andrade’s ability to land knockout punches, this isn’t an inconceivable outcome. With odds of 17.00, it’s a tasty high-odds wager this weekend.

While the bookies certainly have their favorite heading into Saturday night, Las Vegas is putting on one of the year’s most exciting fights for us. We say the safest bet is to back Benavidez vs Andrade to go the distance, with a win to the younger fighter as the most likely scenario. However, those chasing a big payday can take a risky fight pick and wager on the boxing tips that the underdog wins this one at the death for a huge payout. Follow BetZillion for more.
