Slavia Prague @ 1.80 (4/5)

Slavia Prague has been dominating the league in recent years. They have won the championship four times in the last seven years, and they are also the team with the second-most Czech First League titles (7). Slavia has one of the best rosters in the tournament, and they will try to get back to winning the championship after losing it in the last two years.

Sparta Prague @ 2.20 (6/5)

Sparta Prague are the defending champions after winning both the regular season and the championship playoffs last season. They had the same amount of points as Slavia Prague, but they won due to the season’s head-to-head record between them. Sparta has the record for the most championships won by any Czech Club (13).

Viktoria Plzen @ 9.0 (8/1)

Viktoria Plzen is the only club to win a championship other than Slavia Prague and Sparta Prague in the last 11 years. Viktoria last won the tournament in 2022, and they will be looking to win the title again after failing to defend it last season. They have won six championships, five of which have come in the last 11 years. Plzen has also won the Czech Super Cup twice before.

Slovacko @ 201.0 (200/1)

Slovacko has never won the Czech First League title before. They are the best team in the Fortuna Liga Czechia after the big three teams. Their best result was finishing fourth, and that happened twice in the last three years, so they are improving each year. They have won the Czech Cup once before, in 2022, but most bet pros think they won’t have much chance of winning the championship this season.

Banik Ostrava @ 351.0 (350/1)

Banik Ostrava finished in 11th place last season. They won the championship once in the 2003–04 season. They also have one Czech Cup gained in 2005, but they have been away from trophies lately. Banik Ostrava winning the championship this season won’t be anything less than a miracle, especially since they were in the bottom half last season.

Football Czechia Fortuna Liga 2023–24 Format & Overview

Just like the English Premier League, the Fortuna Liga Czechia is organized in a relegation/promotion style with the Czech National League and consists of 16 teams. However, each plays 30 matches in the regular season, and then all are divided into three qualification groups.

The top six teams enter the Championship group, as each team plays an additional five matches (playing against each of the five teams once) to determine the champion. The play-off group is for the teams that took places from 7 to 10, and they play for cash bonuses and an easier path in the Czech Cup.

The last 6 teams get into the relegation group, as the 16th team from the Czech First League gets relegated directly, while the 14th and 15th teams play against the 2nd and 3rd clubs from the Czech National Football League in a playoff-style game for relegation.

The Czech First League season starts on July 22, and it will run for almost ten months. MFK Karvina got promoted to the Fortuna Liga this season, while Zbrojovka Brno got relegated to the Czech National Football League.

History of the Czech Football Championship

The Czech First League was established in 1993 after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, and Sparta Prague won it that year. Sparta won the most championships of any Czech club (13), and they are also the defending champions. Slavia Prague is another team that has dominated the tournament in recent years. This will be the 31st edition of the Czech First League. The championship and relegation group format was first introduced in 2018, and this will be the sixth year with this system.

According to the bookmakers in the Czech Republic, Slavia Prague is the favorite to win this year’s Fortuna Liga Czechia. They have won seven Czech First League titles and 13 Czechoslovakia championships. They finished second in the 2022–23 Fortuna Liga Czechia, even though they had a really good year and scored 78 points.

Slavia Prague have won the Czech Cup four times in the last six years, and they are the defending champions as well. They are one of the top two teams in the Czech Republic, without a doubt, as they have a lot of talented players like Dorley, Kolar, and Holes.

Viktoria Plzen is one of the best underdogs in this tournament, especially with such odds. They have won the championship six times before, and all of them were in the last 13 years. Viktoria even qualified for the Champions League last session, but they were in the toughest group, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan, so they didn’t achieve much. Chory had 14 goals and 5 assists last season for Viktoria, and he is having a good pre-season as well.
