The US Open is less than a month away, and this week the road to Flushing Meadows well and truly begins. With back-to-back combined Masters 1000 tournaments occurring on the hard courts of North America, the Canadian Open 2023 presents the first of several opportunities for players to play themselves into form and seeding ahead of the year’s final Grand Slam.
Finally, we are on the speedway of top-tier tennis, with the National Bank Open hosting the first of three big events in less than a month. With a switch from European grass and clay to North American hardcourts, these conditions also favor some more than others. Those with power games – big serves and booming forehands – will love the fast court speed, with plus-one tennis being rewarded.
Will the likes of Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev be able to make the most of this in the men’s draw? Or will Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula do a better job on the women’s side? Read on for all our 2023 Canadian Open predictions.

Looking at the 2023 ATP Canadian Open tennis odds, here are the favorites to take out the title this week:
Playing in his first tournament since winning Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz is the clear leader in the betting odds at 2.37 (11/8). Defending champion Daniil Medvedev is the only other player within touching distance of him at 4.00 (4/1) before the odds drop off substantially for the rest of the field, led by Jannik Sinner at 11.00 (10/1).
In terms of the National Bank Open 2023 odds for the women’s event, here’s how the bookies are placing the favorites right now:
Coming into the Canadian Open 2023 off the back of a dominant performance in Warsaw, Iga Swiatek leads the WTA event at 3.00 (2/1). However, the remainder of the Big Three is nipping at her heels, with Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina paying 4.50 (7/2) and 5.50 (9/2), respectively. American No.1 Jessica Pegula is the next best at 11.00 (10/1), with Washington winner Coco Gauff just behind at 13.00 (12/1).

Daniil Medvedev often gets lost in the conversation between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic this year. However, the man is world No.3, has a 46-9 record in 2023, and five titles to his name on the 2023 ATP Tour.
As defending champion, we say that Medvedev will fire off a pre-US Open warning shot by winning again in 2023. Naturally, Alcaraz is his biggest threat to doing this, but thankfully the pair are on opposite sides of the draw, and the Spaniard has a very difficult path to getting to the final. For Alcaraz to play Medvedev, the 20-year-old would potentially need to beat Ben Shelton, Hubert Hurkacz, Holger Rune, and Jannik Sinner. This is a tough run for someone playing their first hard-court tournament in months.
Medvedev, however, has a softer draw. His toughest match would be a quarter-final against Taylor Fritz potentially, with a more comfortable semi-final against either Casper Ruud or Andrey Rublev awaiting. With his big serve and brilliant hard-court game, back Medvedev to win again at the Canadian Open.

For those who can’t wait to bet on Canadian Open 2023 men, we see an upset coming in the opening round. Tallon Griekspoor has been playing some incredible tennis on hard-courts this year, with a 17-6 record. He heads to Toronto having made the final of the Washington Open last week, where he recorded his first top-10 win of his career, ousting an in-form Taylor Fritz.
Yes, Alexander Zverev is also in strong form, having won in Hamburg recently. However, that was clay, and this is a hard court. We back the recent form of Griekspoor to overcome Zverev as he struggles to adjust to the surface change.

Speaking of recent form, topping our WTA Canadian Open 2023 betting tips is Iga Swiatek winning the National Bank Open 2023. The Pole was utterly dominant in Warsaw the week before last, dropping just one game to win the final 6-0, 6-1.
Critically, Swiatek’s biggest rivals – Sabalenka and Rybakina – are both playing their first tournaments since Wimbledon. We say this will make all the difference. Each can rival Swiatek on this surface, but the 22-year-old coming here high on confidence and with a good string of recent match play under her belt will give her an edge over both Sabalenka and Rybakina, who will take some getting used to playing again after several weeks off.

Another bet offering great odds is for home favorite Leylah Fernandez to overcome Peyton Stearns in the first round this week. The 20-year-old is at a career-high of 21 in the world and will be performing in front of family and friends in Montreal, opening an attractive opportunity for the Canadian bookies‘ registered users.
Fernandez has had a mixed year without many deep runs but has consistently won her first-round matches on the 2023 WTA Tour. From the 15 events she’s contested this year, only twice has she failed to make the second round. Throw in the extra motivation of Fernandez losing a tight three-set match against Stearns on clay in May, and we say Fernandez will win this one comfortably.
The ATP and WTA Tours both contest Masters 1000 events this week in Canada, with the men heading to Toronto and the women to Montreal. World No.1s Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek are favorites, but we say only one of them will walk away victorious on Sunday.
Back Swiatek to go all the way, but Alcaraz to get tripped up by a tricky draw at some stage, with Daniil Medvedev lifting the trophy instead. Also, there’s plenty of value to be had for those that want to bet on the earlier rounds of the Canadian Open, with Tallon Griekspoor upsetting Alexander Zverev as the pick of the lot.
