Understanding The BWF 2024 France Open

The French Open is a yearly badminton competition that takes place in France. The inaugural event occurred in 1909 and was organized by the French Badminton Federation. Despite being a yearly event, the tournament did not occur between 1915 and 1934. It was also on hold in 1965, 1970, 1972, 1994, and 2006.

In the past, the French Open was not seen as one of the top events in international badminton. However, in 2007, it became part of the BWF Super Series, making it one of the world’s 12 most important badminton tournaments. Since 2018, the BWF (Badminton World Federation) has classified the French Open as one of the five BWF World Tour Super 750 events. This year marks the 21st time the France Open has been part of the BWF series of events.

Despite a recent poor run of form, world No. 7 Prannoy Sunil is favored to prevail over 17-ranked Lu Guang Zu in their upcoming matchup. Sunil secured a third-place finish at the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2024, where he was defeated by the current world No. 2, Shi YuQi, in the semifinals. However, he failed to qualify for the knockout round at the subsequent Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2024.

Nonetheless, Sunil regained his form, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2024 Selangor Badminton Asia Team Championships. Given his recent performances, the general expectation is that Sunil can overcome Lu Guang Zu in this anticipated clash. The best badminton odds for this match-up is Prannoy Haseena Sunil to beat Lu Guangzu @ 1.83 (4/5).

Han Yue to beat Yeo Jia Min @ 1.50 (4/5)

Number 8-ranked Han Yue is another solid option to win her match against Yeo Jia Min. The Chinese player should feel confident enough after she qualified for the knockout round at the Petronas Malaysia Open 2024, Yonex Sunrise India Open 2024, and Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2024. Although her opponent, Yeo Jia Min, finished third at the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2024, we expect Han Yue to be too much competition for her in the matchup.
