The China Masters debuted in 2005, and the current edition marks its 17th installment after 16 previous tournaments. This prestigious event is the 36th tournament of this year’s BWF World Tour. The competition unfolds from November 19 through November 24.

The competition is an annual event held in China. It joined the ranks of the BWF Super Series tournaments in 2007. However, in 2014, the tournament’s status was reduced to BWF Grand Prix Gold. This change occurred after China’s unsuccessful bid in the fall of 2012 to host two BWF Super Series events, leading to the Australian Open replacing the China Masters for the 2014–2017 Superseries cycle.
In 2018, the tournament was reclassified as a World Tour Grade 2 Level 3 event (BWF World Tour Super 750) and renamed the Fuzhou China Open. From 2023 onwards, the tournament will take place in Shenzhen and revert to its original name, the China Masters.
