Club Brugge @ 3.25 (9/4)

Club Brugge has been dominating the league in recent years. They have won the championship five times in the last eight years, lastly in the 2021–22 season. They are also the team with the second-most Jupiler Pro League titles (18). Club Brugge has won 17 Belgian Cups, which is the most by any team in Belgium. Simon Mignolet, their goalkeeper, is one of the most important players for the club, while Hans Vanaken scored 14 goals for the team in the Belgian Pro League last season. Club Brugge is a strong contender for the title for a good reason.

Antwerp @ 3.75 (11/4)

Antwerp surprised everyone by winning the championship last season, as they finished in third place in the regular season. They are one of the favorites to grab this year’s Belgian Pro League and defend their title. Antwerp is also the Belgian Cup champion after winning their fourth trophy last season. The Dutch player, Vincent Janssen, scored a stunning 18 goals for Antwerp to help them win the 2022–23 league.

Genk @ 5.0 (4/1)

Genk was so close to winning the championship last season. They were at the top of the league at the end of the regular season, but they finished in second place in the championship group in the last match. Mike Tresor had a record-breaking 24 assists in the Belgian Pro League last season with Genk, and he will be an important piece for them to win the championship this time. They would have to improve defensively to win the title.

Gent @ 11.0 (10/1)

Gent has won only one championship, which was in the 2014–15 season. They finished in 5th place in the last three seasons, and they will try to improve from that. Gent has won four Belgian Cups as well as four Super Cups; they won both titles in 2022. Hugo Cuypers won the Belgian Golden Show, as he scored an outstanding 27 goals for the club last season in the league. Their chances are there to win the championship, but they would need to step up their game.

Union St. Gilloise @ 11.0 (10/1)

Union St. Gilloise has won 11 Belgian Pro League championships, only behind Anderlecht and Club Brugge in a number of titles. They had a very strong 2022–23 season, as Union SG finished second in the regular season with the same amount of points as Genk, but they lost the title and finished third in the championship playoffs. Union is a solid team that can cause an upset and win the league.

Football Belgian Pro League 2023–24 Format & Overview

The Belgian Pro League is organized in a relegation/promotion style with the Challenger Pro League, and it consists of 16 teams, each playing 30 matches in the regular season. After that, each team enters one of the three groups (Play-offs I, Play-offs II, or relegation) according to their position in the table.

The Play-offs I group is the competition for the Championship title. The top 6 teams from the regular season enter for a chance to grab the title. The points are halved, then each team plays an additional ten games in the playoffs (double round-robin). The teams from the 7th to 12th positions join the Play-offs II (Europe group), in which the top team will get into the Conference League qualifications. It looks similar to the structure of the Romanian Liga I.

The last four teams get into the relegation group, as the 16th and 15th teams from the Jupiler Pro League get relegated directly, while the 14th team in the group will play against the 3rd finisher in the Challenger Pro League for the last spot.

The Belgian Pro League season starts on July 28, and it will run for almost 10 months. RWD Molenbeek got promoted to the Jupiler Pro League this season, while Seraing, Zulte Waregem, and Oostende got relegated to the Challenger Pro League.

History of the Belgian Football Championship

The Belgian Pro League was established in 1895, and FC Liegeois won the first title. Anderlecht won the most championships of any Belgian club (34), but they have been away from trophies lately. Antwerp is the defending champion after winning the league in the last match of last season. This will be the 121st edition of the Jupiler Pro League. The championship, relegation, and Conference League group format was first introduced in 2009, and this will be the 15th year with this system.

According to the bookmakers in Belgium, Antwerp is one of the strong favorites to win this year’s Belgian Pro League. The club will be in good spirits after winning the title last season in the last match. Three teams were in contention to win the championship in the last game of the 2022–23 season, but Toby Alderweireld won it for Antwerp with his goal in the 94th minute against Genk. The last time the club won it before that title was 66 years ago.

Antwerp is solid at the back, and that’s where their strength comes from. They have Jean Butez, who had the most clean sheets last season (20), which is six more than the second-place player, Simon Mignolet. Toby Alderweireld, the former Spurs defender, is also one of the most important pieces for the club to win back-to-back championships this season.

Union St. Gilloise is a good underdog with such odds, especially since they were one win away from winning the championship last season. They have won two Belgian Cups before, and they were back-to-back in 1913 and 1914. Union SG finished in third place in the Jupiler Pro League in the last two seasons, so they have been consistent and will have their chances to qualify for the championship group at least. Teddy Teuma is the team’s best player and had 12 assists in the Belgian Pro League last season.

Genk has one of the best rosters in the Belgian Pro League, and they will have a big chance of winning the title. They have won the championship four times before, lastly in the 2018–19 season. Genk has won 5 Belgian Cups and 9 Super Cups, and they won both of them in 2021. Mike Tresor and Joseph Paintsil make a strong duo for the club, and if they have another great season, they will have a good opportunity to win the championship. So if you are looking for some kind of safe pick, backing Genk to finish at the podium looks good for a fair odds of 1.5 (1/2) on the new legal betting sites.
