Despite the presence of big names such as Lydia Ko and Allisen Corpuz, it’s world No 13 Atthaya Thitikul who leads the betting odds ahead of the 2023 Maybank Championship, paying a low 9.00 (8/1). Behind her Xiyu Lin and Celine Boutier are joint on 13.00 (12/1), before Nelly Korda and Jin Young Ko round out the top five betting favorites, both sitting on 15.00 (14/1).

Understanding the Maybank Championship 2023

This will be the inaugural Maybank Championship on the LPGA. While Malaysia has hosted several golfing events over the past decade with the same headline sponsor, this will be the first time it’s been done in the women’s sport at this level.

A total of 78 players will compete across the course of four days, with this tournament formatted a 72 hole, no cut event. Read on for our golf women’s Maybank Championship 2023 predictions.

Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul has been having a brilliant season in 2023, and it feels as though her year is building towards a title here in Malaysia. There’s a reason why all Asian bookies have her as their favorite in the betting odds. Since January, Thitikul has placed in the top 10 a total of 12 times and in the top five half of these times. This includes recent results of 5T, 2T, 7T, and 2T across four of her past five events.

Simply put, Thitikul is in excellent form, and if she were to go all the way and win the title here at the LPGA 2023 Maybank Championship, it would be no surprise. It’s been over a year since she lifted her last trophy, and all signs are pointing towards another title being on the horizon very shortly.

Nelly Korda to Beat Celine Boutier @ 2.00 (1/1)

In match up odds this week, Nelly Korda is a slight underdog against Celine Boutier. The American will have a strong week in Malaysia, outperforming Celine Boutier in what is a tight head-to-head. Korda has claimed eight LPGA titles as well as an Olympic gold medal, with her last glory coming at the Aramco Team Series – London. While she’s been hit and miss since then, Korda has still made the top 16 in four of her past five events and is well-placed for a good showing this week.

Lydia Ko to Win @ 34.00 (33/1)

Now for the part, everyone loves–our high odds predictions. We say there’s an outside chance that Kiwi Lydia Ko will ignite some old form and lift her 20th LPGA title in Malaysia. She is currently rising in the Rolex Women’s Golf Rankings and has a game well suited to the conditions in Kuala Lumpur.

The reason her odds for winning here are so high is because she’s had some fairly chaotic form over the past 12 months. Remember when she won three out of four events across late 2022 and early 2023? Perhaps her recent string of cuts and 40th+ placements have made the memory fade. Regardless, the New Zealander has evident talent, and a third place finish at the recent BMW Ladies Championship may well indicate she’s back in form.

The LPGA heads to Malaysia this week as Kuala Lumpur plays host to the 2023 Maybank Championships. A stacked field will vie for their share of a $3,000,000 prize pool, but who will come out on top? We say it will be Atthaya Thitikul who prevails, with the Thai’s consistent form finally converting into a title in 2023. Expect good showings from Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko as well, who is always a dark horse threat of taking out this tournament.
