We break down all the latest China Open 2023 odds and give our expert picks ahead of the first cock smash this week.

🏟️ Venue: Xincheng Gymnasium, Changzhou, China
🗓️ Dates: Tuesday, 5 September to Sunday, 10 September

China Open 2023 Badminton Odds

Before we get into our badminton China Open 2023 betting tips, let’s take a look at who’s most likely to win this tournament. Unfortunately, bookmakers in China are not offering outright betting odds this week. However, in the absence of the 2023 China Open badminton odds, here’s a look at the top five seeds in each event:

Men’s Singles Favorites

  • Viktor Axelsen (Denmark)
  • Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (Indonesia)
  • Kodai Naraoka (Japan)
  • Jonatan Christie (Indonesia)
  • Li Shifeng (China)

With recent World Championships winner Kunlavut Vitidsarn withdrawing ahead of this event, Kodai Naraoka is the form player to watch, having placed runner-up at last month’s tournament. However, Viktor Axelsen may have fallen early in Copenhagen, but beware the wounded Dane, who is still the best player in this field by a country mile.

Women’s Singles Favorites

  • An Se-young (South Korea)
  • Akane Yamaguchi (Japan)
  • Chen Yufei (China)
  • Tai Tzu-ying (Chinese Taipei)
  • He Bingjao (China)

Last month’s World Championships saw the women’s tournament unfold as expected, with An Se-young, the pre-tournament favorite, winning the event. The South Koren will again be favored in the 2023 BWF World Tour China odds here, but can she back it up? She’ll have pressure from Akane Yamaguchi, who came third in Denmark, as well as a red-hot Carolina Marin, who sits just outside the top five seeds.

Understanding the China Open 2023

Actually, the badminton China Open tournament is contested annually. However, this will be the first time since 2019 that the BWF World Tour has made its way here due to COVID-19 regulations in China. The event is known for having the Tour’s largest prize pool outside of the season finals, sitting at $2,000,000 total. As a Super 1000 event, there are plenty of valuable ranking points up for grabs also. Both singles events will be contested as 32-player draws.

2023 China Open Betting Predictions

We’ve broken down the China Open 2023 badminton odds and come up with the top three predictions to make this week. Here are the badminton China Open 2023 betting tips to make ahead of this tournament:

Tip # 1

Jonatan Christie to Beat Hong Yang Weng @ 1.53 (8/15)

Main Prediction
Jonatan Christie to Beat Hong Yang Weng

Coming into the China Open as the fifth seed and technically the fourth-best player in the tournament after Kunlavut Vitidsarn’s withdrawal, Jonatan Christie has a point to prove. The world No. 9 had a poor World Championships, falling in the first round to Zii Jia Lee. However, Changzhou proves the perfect opportunity for the 25-year-old to bounce back, and Hong Yang Weng is a great opponent to do so against.

The pair are well-matched, with their last two meetings shared 1-1. Christie got the better of their most recent encounter at the Japan Open, where the Indonesian made a deep run until he met Viktor Axelsen in the final. With Christie having plenty to prove after his early exit and Weng not having played in over a month, we say backing the fifth seed is a great bet here.

Tip #3

Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo to Beat Viktor Axelsen @ 11.00 (10/1)

This is a wild one, but bear with us. Viktor Axelsen suffered a devastating loss in front of home fans last month, losing in the quarter-finals at a tournament he was supposed to win. The Dane will respond to this in one of two ways: turning up to the China Open 2023 on a mission and devastating all in his path or beating himself up and getting into a little bit of a funk the next few events.

Back Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo to defeat Axelsen is a wager on the latter. It’s not a sure thing, but it also has an enormous return and isn’t entirely unreasonable.

With the 2023 HSBC BWF World Tour heading to China this week, there’s plenty to unpack after last month’s World Championships. We say that Carolina Marin will continue her strong form and do well in the women’s events, while Jonatan Christie will redeem his first-round loss with a winning start in Changzhou. Viktor Axelsen, however, is at risk of an upset, and we recommend taking a risk and using our badminton betting tip with a high-odds loss for the Dane early on in the tournament.
