Super Bowl History

The Super Bowl is an annual playoff championship game of the National Football League (NFL) and one of the world’s biggest and most prominent sporting games. The Super Bowl has been the final game of the NFL season since 1966 when it replaced the NFL Championship Game.

Throughout its history, the Super Bowl has been held on Sundays in mid-late January (1967-1978), in late January (1979-2003), and the first Sunday of February (2004-2021). In 2022, the Super Bowl has moved to the second Sunday of February, which is a date that will likely remain in use for the next few years. Traditionally held on Sundays, the Super Bowl has also adapted the name as the “Big Game” and is often referred to as “Super Bowl Sunday” or “Super Sunday.”

The Super Bowl is among the world’s most-watched single sporting events. It often commands the largest audience, second to only the UEFA Champions League final – which remains the most-watched annual club sporting event.

Given its popularity, it’s no surprise that the NFL Super Bowl odds for 2022 are readily available on all betting sites, and there is no shortage of betting promos on the NFL season-culminating game.

Odds to Win 2022 Super Bowl (Outright)

The Super Bowl betting odds 2022 are out, and according to the American football sportsbooks, the Los Angeles Rams are the most likely winner of the event. However, while the Los Angeles Rams vs. Cincinnati Bengals odds favour the former, there is a lot to consider before deciding who to bet on.

Los Angeles Rams (1/2)

The Los Angeles Rams are 1/2 favourites to win the 2022 Super Bowl, which makes sense since they’ve been in the mix for a full year, largely thanks to their strategic trade for Matthew Stafford in winter. Interestingly, the Rams were priced as high as 13/1 to win the Super Bowl before the season started, but as soon as the world recognized how good Stafford is, their odds to win the 2022 Super Bowl dropped to 6/1.

Admittedly, the Rams have had some hiccups on their road through the season, but they looked excellent nevertheless. Their trade for Stafford was a massive move, but the Rams made another superb decision when they traded for Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller before the deadline, which saw their outright odds drop even lower, to 13/2.

Things did not click right away for the Los Angeles outfit, and they lost 3 straight. But once the Rams found traction, they claimed 5 successive Ws and locked their spot in the NFC West.

The Rams were 17/2 favourites ahead of the Wild Card Weekend and 2/1 underdogs to get past the 49ers and claim the Super Bowl ahead of the NFC Championship game. They nearly slipped and fell but somehow managed a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to keep the wind in their sails and enter their second Super Bowl in 4 years.

Last 5 Games

  • Los Angeles Rams 20-17 San Francisco 49ers
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-30 Los Angeles Rams
  • Los Angeles Rams 34-11 Arizona Cardinals
  • Los Angeles Rams 24-27 San Francisco 49ers
  • Baltimore Ravens 19-20 Los Angeles Rams

Cincinnati Bengals (7/4)

Not many expected the Cincinnati Bengals to play in the 2022 Super Bowl, and many expected them to crash out early after they got crushed by Cleveland (16-14) in Week 10. However, due to their slump later in the season, the Bengals’ odds to win Super Bowl 2022 had them priced as high as 60/1, which was an improvement compared to their pre-season odds (99/1).

But despite all the ups and downs, the Bengals had to endure. Joe Burrow led his side to 3 straight wins to make the playoffs. Ahead of the Wild Card Weekend, the Bengals were 20/1 outsiders to go all the way. And even after beating the Raiders and the Titans, Bengals were priced as high as 15/2 to win the Super Bowl.

Now Cincinnati Bengals are the underdogs to win the final match of the season, with the latest odds showing 7/4 ahead of their clash with Rams on their home ground.

Cincinnati Bengals +4.5 points – 10/11

The line for the 2022 Super Bowl has been volatile lately, shifting between the Rams being favoured by 3.5 points up to 4.5, which is where the current line sits. If you wanted to bet on the Rams, it’s fair to say that you’ve already missed the train of the 3.5 line, but for our predictions, the line movement works in our favour.

The visitors undoubtedly have the edge over the Bengals, especially if you look at their defense, which should wreak havoc against Cincinnati’s offensive line. But Burrow has managed to overcome the poor protection this year – seeing how the Bengals are 6-6 in games where he was sacked 3 times or more – and 4 of their 6 defeats were by 3 or fewer points.

With those stats, it’s clear that the Bengals can get it done even under a lot of pressure, which is largely thanks to Burrow. What’s more, while the Bengals’ defense hasn’t looked too good on paper, we consider it to be underrated. And that presents us with an excellent opportunity to bet on the outsiders to keep it close.

Since we expect the Rams to be priced as even bigger favourites, it might be worth exploring in-play betting options, placing your bet on Bengals a few minutes after the game starts.

Cam Ackers (Under 62.5 Rushing Yards) – 10/11

Although an exceptional player, Cam Ackers has been very shaky since coming off the Achilles injury. He is a big reason why the Los Angeles Rams have made it so far, but we disagree with the market offering of Ackers’ total rushing yards for the 2022 Super Bowl.

That’s not to say he can’t achieve it and go over 62 yards, but given how his form has been of late, we have our doubts. At 10/11 on 62.5 yards, this is one of the bets we’re happy to take.

Odell Beckham Jr. (Over 63.5 Receiving Yards) – 10/11

The bookmakers have set the total receiving yards on Odell Beckham Jr. at 63.5, which is way too low in our book. For the Bengals to upset the Rams, their defense will have to step up and slow down Cooper Kupp, but we’re not as interested in that as we are in Beckham’s improvement over the playoffs.

Admittedly, the 2 things go hand-in-hand since Kupp will likely attract much attention to himself, meaning Odell will have plenty of targets available – which was the case in the previous matches. Interestingly, Beckham’s lowest target count across the last 6 outings was 4 (against Cardinals in the Wild Card). His number should be much closer to 70 yards, making this an excellent value pick at the provided odds.

2022 Super Bowl LVI – Bonus Prediction

We conclude our 2022 Super Bowl betting predictions with a bonus bet on Matthew Stafford to score a TD (anytime). That may sound like a strange bet since Stafford isn’t the most mobile, but the Rams have been using him for sneakers recently, and he had TDs in his first 2 games against the Buccaneers and the Cardinals. The potential payout is good enough to take a shot with one of the MVP candidates at the offered odds.

Prediction: Matthew Stafford TD (anytime) – 13/2

Our 2022 Super Bowl Betting Tips

  1. Cincinnati Bengals +4.5 – 10/11
  2. Cam Ackers (Under 62.5 Rushing Yards) – 10/11
  3. Odell Beckham Jr. (Over 63.5 Receiving Yards) – 10/11
  4.  Matthew Stafford TD (anytime) – 13/2

That concludes our 2022 Super Bowl betting preview, providing you with 4 great picks for you to follow. But before you place your bets, make sure that you’re wagering with the best odds on the best NFL bookies!
