But do the Spanish LaLiga 2022/23 title odds accurately depict which team is most likely to win?

Real Madrid – 6/5

Carlo Ancelotti’s return to the Bernabeu was a massive success. With the Italian manager at the helm, Real Madrid won LaLiga, lifted the Super Cup, and won the UEFA Champions League despite fighting through the toughest draw imaginable.

Given the team’s success last season, it makes sense for the bookies to price Real Madrid as the main favourites to win the 2023 LaLiga title. But like with any champions and their chances of winning another title, you have to ask yourself if there is any reason why Real Madrid might be weaker this season.

Admittedly, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema are getting old (36, 34), so a drop in their level of play is a rational concern. However, they were both exceptional last season, so it seems unlikely that they’ll not perform up to par this season. Moreover, Casemiro, Modric, and Toni Kroos have been given younger teammates to play with in the midfield, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni.

The only other signing was Antonio Rudiger in an otherwise quiet summer for Real Madrid. There are even talks about a possible signing of Kylian Mbappe. Still, even if the Frenchman does not join the squad, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo are enough for us to believe Real Madrid will be even stronger in the attack than last season.

Barcelona – 5/4

Barcelona significantly improved since Xavi was appointed last season and finished the season in second place. To improve, Barca made huge moves in the summer, adding quality players in Jules Kounde, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinia, who could make a difference in Barcelona’s title chase.

On the surface, Barcelona looks like legitimate title contenders, so you can understand why many will want to have Barca on their 2022/23 LaLiga table predictions sheets. But the chaotic nature of Barcelona’s finances raises some flags.

Barcelona still needs to cut their spending to register the new signings while trying to force players – who they’ve yet to pay their salaries – out of the club. Barcelona has the potential to be great, but they’re not a team we would add to our Spanish LaLiga betting predictions 2023 list, mainly due to all the chaos surrounding the club.

Atletico Madrid – 6/1

Barcelona looks like the most realistic challenger for Real Madrid, but you can’t argue with Atletico Madrid being priced as the third-most likely team to steal the spotlight. Unfortunately, there is little to suggest they can do it.

The big issue Atletico Madrid needs to address ahead of the next season if they’re serious about winning the title is their back line and find a way to improve the team’s defensive solidity. Last season, Atl Madrid conceded 43 goals which are astronomically high – the highest figure since the 2011/12 season, when they placed fifth.

And nothing would suggest that Atletico Madrid will look any better in the defence, seeing as the club has not made many moves in the transfer market. Still good enough for a top-four finish but hardly anything more than that.

Sevilla – 20/1

Sevilla was challenged for the LaLiga title for most of the season last term, but they finished fourth, which was a solid outcome but disappointing nonetheless. Heading into the next season, Sevilla will be without star defender Kounde and Diego Carlos, who left during the summer, which is a problem.

So if you’re online betting on who will win LaLiga 2022/23, we advise against backing Sevilla. They’ve lost too much and not gained anything that would improve their chances of winning the trophy.

Villarreal – 40/1

Last season’s campaign was a solid one for Villarreal, who made the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Still, like Sevilla, Villarreal doesn’t have the talent to compete with Real Madrid or Barcelona.

They could find themselves in a race for a top-four finish. Still, anything beyond that seems highly unlikely, and you could even argue that Villarreal might not place top four by the end of the season, nor are they a very appealing bet on the 2022/23 LaLiga top 4 odds markets.

Time and Date of the Competition

The 2022/23 LaLiga Season is set to kick off on Friday, August 12, with the season’s opening round. It will mark the 92nd season of LaLiga, Spain’s premier football competition and possibly one of the closest in years. The start date of this year’s season is one day sooner than last year’s and way sooner than the 2020/21 season, which began in September.

It will welcome 20 Spanish football teams from 16 cities, including three promoted teams in Almería, Girona, and Real Valladolid, who earned promotions from the Segunda Division, returning to the top league after seven, one, and three-year absences.

Real Madrid To Win LaLiga – 6/5

Realistically, if you’re looking to predict which team will win LaLiga, there are only two options  – Real Madrid and Barcelona. And even though both are extremely strong teams, Real Madrid is the defending and the reigning UEFA Champions League champions, who will enter the 2022/23 season even more potent than they were last term.

Moreover, Barcelona is dealing with many issues they need to resolve ahead of the next season, which is just another handicap for Barca and another reason we prefer Real Madrid as our outright prediction.

But before you place your bet, make sure that you’re using the best LaLiga bookies and bet at the latest available odds!

Sevilla To Win (Without Barcelona & Real Madrid) – 4/1

As noted, Sevilla likely won’t be nearly as dangerous this year as they were the last term, but at 4/1 to win the league without Barca and Real Madrid, this is a bet we can’t look past. Admittedly, Sevilla doesn’t boast as much star power as other champion-calibre teams, and no names in this squad can be considered serious candidates to end the season as top scorers. Still, you have to look at it from a different angle.

At 4/1 to win the league without Barcelona and Real Madrid, we’re effectively getting 4/1 on Sevilla to outperform Atletico Madrid, which is more than possible. On paper, Atletico Madrid is stronger, but unless they improve their defence, there’s a good possibility that they won’t finish the year inside the top 3.

Real Betis To Finish Top 4 – 9/2

Real Betis are priced at 9/2 to finish top-4, which is an exciting bet we can’t ignore. Some may argue that Villarreal is a better choice at 3/1, but Real Bettis offers much more value at the offered price.

Betis have strengthened the squad and had a solid campaign in 2022, finishing within five points of a Champions League spot. Moreover, they won Copa del Rey, and there is no reason to believe they can’t go one better and finish inside the top 4 this season.

Karim Benzema To Score 25 Or More Goals – 1/1

Karim Benzema might already be 34 years old, but as he proved last season, he is a goalscoring machine and an interesting bet on the top goalscorer betting markets. Benzema scored 27 goals last season, and with an even stronger squad around him, he should be in an excellent spot to emulate that success this term.

At even odds, Benzema scoring at least 25 goals is an easy choice.

Atletico Madrid To Finish Fifth Or Lower – 9/4

Since we are confident Real Madrid and Barcelona will finish the year inside the top two, Sevilla with a good chance of placing third and Betis being a bit underrated for a team that has the tools to place fourth, the only place Atletico Madrid can end the season in fifth and lower.

It might sound like a hot take, but Atletico Madrid wasn’t convincing last term, and without any improvements to the squad, they likely won’t fare any better this year either. Moreover, Betis and Sevilla proved that they could compete with Atletico, who seems to be trending downward.

Still a bit of a longshot bet, but a good one at the offered odds.

2022/23 La Liga Predictions – Bonus Pick

We considered adding a relegation pick for our final selection, but instead, we’ll back Karim Benzema to score more goals than Robert Lewandowski at 10/11. Although Lewandowski is a world-class striker, it’s unrealistic to expect him to do well in the first season with a new club. On the other side, Benzema is one of the most consistent goalscorers in the league – the choice is obvious.

Prediction: Karim Benzema to score more goals than Robert Lewandowski – 10/11
