The Grand Slam is organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and was formerly managed by the British Darts Organization (BDO). This year’s edition is the 15th edition, and Cazoo sponsors it; hence it is the 2021 Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts.

Tournament History

This highly competitive tournament started in 2007, each November up until 2017. The Wolverhampton Civic center was used from the inception of the tournament until 2018 due to renovations, and it was taken to the Aldersley village. Darts veteran Phil Taylor won the first 3 editions against fellow Andy Hamilton, Terry Jenkins, and Scott Waites in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Taylor went into the 2010 edition as favorite but failed to win it and crashed out at the quarter-final stage to Steve Beaton.

Scott Waites won the 2010 Grand Slam by defeating James Wade by 16-10. Taylor got his redemption in 2011 by defeating Gary Anderson in the final 16-4. Raymond van Barneveld won the 2012 edition by defeating Michael van Gerwen.

“The snakebite,” as his fans fondly call him, is in good stead ahead of the Grand Slam. He is one of the oldest and experienced in this year’s competition. The Scottish mohawked player has been playing since 1987 and has won several titles in this period. He might be older and less energetic than his younger counterparts, but Wright still has it and is one of the favorites for the prize.

Dimitri Van den Bergh (11/1 to Win)

The 27 year old Belgian is firmly in the race to win the grand prize. Currently ranked 15th globally, Van den Bergh has risen to prominence because of his consistent performances on the great stage and unique hitting style. “The Dream Maker,” as he is fondly called, will be hoping for some luck to come his way as he vies for the grand prize.
