Will Real Madrid Complete the Double?

Knockout Stage Aggregate Results

  • Round of 16: Real Madrid 2-1 RB Leipzig
  • Quarter-finals: Real Madrid 4-4 Manchester City (4-3 on penalties)
  • Semi-finals: Real Madrid 4-3 Bayern Munich

When Real Madrid reach the Champions League final, they tend to emerge victorious. The Blancos have not fallen at the final hurdle in Europe’s premier tournament since they went down to Liverpool in 1981. Since then they have claimed the prize a further eight times.

Madrid have a stronger side than Borussia Dortmund. Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo make up a star-studded attack. Toni Kroos, who will retire after the game, is still an elite string-puller in midfield. At the back, Antonio Rudiger is one of the best centre-halves around.

Madrid, of course, should take nothing for granted. Football is an unpredictable game. But with the calm and collected Carlo Ancelotti calling the shots, it is hard to see them failing to turn up.

Can Borussia Dortmund Spring a Surprise in London?

Knockout Stage Aggregate Results

  • Round of 16: Borussia Dortmund 3-1 PSV
  • Quarter-finals: Borussia Dortmund 5-4 Atletico Madrid
  • Semi-finals: Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Paris Saint-Germain

Borussia Dortmund did not expect to be here at the beginning of the campaign, but they are worthy Champions League finalists. They came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals, before digging deep and defending stoutly to see off Paris Saint-Germain in the last four.

Dortmund also rode their luck at times against PSG and they will no doubt require some more good fortune if they are to get the better of Real Madrid at Wembley.

The German side recently finished fifth in the Bundesliga, which shows they did not have a particularly impressive season domestically. Yet Edin Terzic’s team are just one win away from becoming European champions for the second time in the club’s history.

Verdict

It is hard to look past Real Madrid in the Champions League final. This is a team that knows what it takes to get over the line, while their starting XI contains more quality than that of Borussia Dortmund. To get more value, consider backing Madrid to win and under 2.5 goals – showpiece events like this are often low-scoring encounters.
