Find the Best Place to Bet on Ligue 1
Footbal
Sergio E
Officially known as Ligue 1 Uber Eats for sponsorship reasons, Ligue 1 is a professional organization for men’s association football clubs in France. Although formally founded in 1930, this league is one of the strongest football confederacies globally and boasts one of the largest fan bases of the five major leagues. But its popularity goes beyond the high viewership numbers.

It should come as no surprise that it’s very easy to find betting odds on one of many Ligue 1 bookies, but being able to wager on the league and being efficient at it are two separate things. A lot goes into making a profit betting on any sport, and there are a few things every punter should know.

My post will help you find the best Ligue 1 betting sites.

List of the Best Ligue 1 Betting Sites

Before you can start putting bets, you first need to find a place to do it. Although numerous Ligue 1 bookmakers are available, you should keep an eye on a few things before you pick one.

To be considered good, the bookie you choose needs to meet a few criteria, including competitive odds, market depth, and preferably a well-known brand. Beyond that, it helps if you check the bonuses and promotions and pick a bookie with the best proposal.

Offers & Promotions

Betting offers and promotions are strong tools bookmakers use to attract new bettors, but customers can also use them to get more value from their wagers. While you should never pick one bookie over the other simply because it has better promotions, you should keep an eye on them.

Ligue 1 Odds

It’s important to do some research before you place your bet. It might sound tedious, but checking around for the best odds will be essential to your long-term success. If you can find a bookmaker with odds that are just 0.05 higher, these numbers can add up across 1000, 10,000, or more bets. So my advice is to register at a few betting sites for the League 1 and find the best odds before you place your first wager.

Ligue 1 Specials

Specials is a term for a wide range of bets you can put to make your gambling journey a bit more exciting. Still, they’re special because these wagers offer a new way to bet outside the traditional moneyline and point-spread bets.

Winner

A winner bet (or outright) is a straightforward wager you can make to predict which team will win the Ligue 1. It is a very popular bet among football punters, and while it’s usually placed before the competition starts, you can also back a team to win midway through the season.

To access this bet, navigate to the outright section, where you will be presented with a long list of winner odds. Naturally, odds will be lower on the teams perceived to be stronger, but you can always back a squad at double or even triple digits.

Most notably, Lille won the 2020/21 Ligue 1 season as 50/1 outsiders. So, while the league has been historically dominated by one team (PSG), things have changed in recent years.

Past Ligue 1 Winners

Check out past Ligue 1 winners and determine who can win the crown this year. Will it be PSG or another team?

Season Winner Runner-up
22/23 Paris Saint-Germain Lens
21/22 Paris Saint-Germain Marseille
20/21 Lille Paris Saint-Germain
19/20 Paris Saint-Germain Marseille
18/19 Paris Saint-Germain Lille
17/18 Paris Saint-Germain Monaco
16/17 Monaco Paris Saint-Germain
15/16 Paris Saint-Germain Lyon
14/15 Paris Saint-Germain Lyon

Relegation

As the name would suggest, relegation betting is wagering on which team will get relegated from Ligue 1. It’s the opposite of winner betting; however, they share similarities, namely the generous wagering odds.

There is no hiding that relegation betting is one of the most popular outright wagers you can make. Although predicting which team (s) will get relegated isn’t easy, that shouldn’t stop you from exploring this market.

The relegation odds can easily reach double digits unless the league features complete outsiders. The best part is that three teams get relegated each year from the top division, meaning there are three ways to win this bet.

Teams

Betting on which team will win the league and which squads will be relegated can be entertaining, but those are not the only team bets you can make.

The bookmakers have done an excellent job expanding the offer of team bets, allowing you as a bettor to stake on almost anything you wish. Although most team bets are related to squad performance, they still offer various options to choose from.

The most popular team bets include:

  • Top 4/6/8 finish
  • Bottom 4/6/8 finish
  • To finish in the top half of the table
  • To finish in the bottom half of the table
  • Over/under league points

Besides the bets mentioned above, some Ligue 1 betting websites will also accept wagers on a team’s exact position at the end of the season, the team’s exact points, and more. So, if you believe Monaco will finish the season in 3rd place with 75 points, you can wager on that.

Best Players (Top Goalscorer)

Besides betting on the teams’ performance, you can also wager on individual players’ performance. Goals are the most accurate way of valuing a player, so often, the league’s top goalscorers also win the league MVP award.

Thanks to the market’s generous odds and the common occurrence of underdogs winning the Golden Boot, betting on the top goalscorer can also be highly profitable. That explains why wagering on the top goalscorer is easily among the most popular player bets across all major soccer leagues and international tournaments.

Past Ligue 1 Top Goal Scorers

Neymar, Messi, Mbappe, or someone else? Check my custom table of past Ligue 1 Top Scorers and determine who has the biggest chance of scoring the crown.

Season Top Goal Scorer
22/23 Kylian Mbappe (29) – PSG
21/22 Kylian Mbappe (25) – PSG
20/21 Kylian Mbappe (27) – PSG
19/20 Kylian Mbappe (PSG) and Wissam Ben Yedder (Monaco) (18)
18/19 Kylian Mbappe (33) – PSG
17/18 Edinson Cavani (28) – PSG
16/17 Edinson Cavani (35) – PSG
15/16 Zlatan Ibrahimovic (38) – PSG
14/15 Alexandre Lacazette (27) – Lyon

There are plenty of betting markets on the Ligue 1 at most French sportsbooks. You shouldn’t just stick to one market – explore them all, and you’ll find quite a few bets of value.

Bets on Single Games

Betting on the outcome of a single game is the simplest bet. It means no parlays or match combinations — just a wager on a single match, such as PSG beating Lyon. As mentioned previously, you won’t be able to tie a string of these bets on a slip. But betting on single games is much simpler for new bettors, while seasoned veterans will look into parlays.

Full-Time Result – 1X2 Betting Market

The full-time result market is also popular among football fans. It’s one of the top-rated bets, allowing you to wager on the home or away team to win the market (1 or 2) or the match to end in a draw (X). The odds for a draw are typically higher than for a home or away win.

Choosing favorites won’t bring you a great return, but betting on the underdog can be profitable.

An Even Split on the BTTS Market

The BTTS market stands for both teams to score. An even split means betting on both teams to score at least one goal in a match. You win if a game ends in 1-1 or 2-2 and you’ve placed an even split bet. You also win if it ends 4-2 for the home team or 2-3 for the away team. If goals are scored on both sides, your even BTTS split wins.

Ante-post Bets

Technically, ante-post bets mean a wager placed ahead of the competition. This market is usually available earlier before the season begins but may also stay open during the season so you can trade out or minimize losses. Ante-post bets can be profitable, but choosing that early before the season isn’t something casual bettors are locked in on. You can do it at any bookie if you can guess the winner early.

The Title Winner Bet

The title winner is an outright bet before a season begins. For example, you can pick PSG, Monaco, or Lyon to lift the trophy at the end of the season. The advantage of betting early is the great odds. They will change during the season, usually shorter for the biggest favorites. An early bet on the title winner can get you a fantastic return.

You can approach betting in many different ways, and while everyone likes to explore the special markets, hunting for bigger payouts, there are plenty of other bets to explore.

When wagering, you will be presented with a wide selection of bets, including some of the most popular football bets, such as moneyline, points spread, over/under, and more.

Moneyline

Moneyline is the most straightforward wager in sports betting. It is used to predict which team will win a given match. The bet has two outcomes, and it only allows you to bet on Team A or Team B.

While moneyline bets are extremely popular among football bettors, the 1×2 wager is often used as an alternative when you want to bet on a draw, which you can’t do with moneyline bets. Regardless, both wagers work on the same principle and require you to do only one thing — predict how the match will end.

Points Spread

Points spread is a more advanced version of the moneyline bet, but it’s by no means complex. While moneyline allows you to predict who will win, points spread is used to predict how much a team will win.

A point spread is a bet on the margin of victory in a game. Depending on their perceived strength relative to the other team, the stronger team will favor a certain number of goals displayed by the spread.

For example, suppose I have a match between Monaco and Lorient, where the former are considered strong favorites. In that case, the bookies will offer a negative spread on Monaco and a positive spread on Lorient.

Most commonly, the spread will be set at 1.5 goals, so in this case, the points spread will show Monaco -1.5 goals and Lorient +1.5 goals.

So, if you believe Monaco can win with at least two goals to spare, you would place a wager on them. Likewise, you would bet on Lorient if you believe the underdogs can either win, draw, or not lose by more than a goal.

The spread shows an imaginary number of goals deducted or added to the game’s final score. The adjusted score is then used to decide whether your French league prediction was correct.

Points spread are handicap betting, so the bookmakers often place them under the “Asian Handicap” section.

Total (Over/Under)

You’re not predicting who will win the match with total (or over/under) bets. Instead, the over/under wager involves the bookie predicting several statistics in a match, and bettors then bet on whether the actual number will be lower or higher than the one offered.

The totals are most commonly used to predict the number of goals – or whether a game’s total number of goals will exceed the predetermined value.

Football matches, on average, see 2.5 goals, the same number you will most commonly see as the line the bookie will set for over/under betting. If the line is at 2.5, you can either predict that the game will end with three or more goals (over 2.5) or two or fewer goals (under 2.5).

Besides betting on the number of goals, the totals can also be used to predict the number of corners, fouls, shots on goal, goal kicks, and much more.

Futures

Futures (or future bets) are wagers placed on an event that will happen in the future. Long-term outcomes decide them, and results are usually settled by the end of the season. As an extensive term, futures can include all wagers you make and won’t be decided until the end of the season, including:

  • League champions
  • Top goalscorer
  • Relegations
  • Promotions
  • Which manager will get sacked first

Futures often require you to tie up your wager for months as you wait for the outcome. While that can be seen as a negative by some, futures also offer very generous odds, making them very popular among bettors who are out hunting for high payouts.

Bet of the Day

If you’re betting, it’s wise to research the teams you’re planning to bet on. Getting as much information on the teams and players as possible is essential for making a smart wager. There is no better way to do it than checking our predictions and betting previews.

WHAT IS THE BEST BET FOR TODAY?

Locating a reputable wagering site with expert picks and predictions is critical to long-term betting success. If you have yet to find the right side, look no further. My colleagues and I at BetZillion asked our betting experts for help. We provided you with a long list of excellent wagering previews and predictions, which we narrowed down to our Bet of the Day.

How to Bet on Ligue 1

There is no secret formula for how to bet on Ligue 1, and there are no strategies that will guarantee you long-term profit. But while there are no shortcuts to making money betting on sports, there are steps any punter must take and follow to get himself in a position to start profiting from his bets.

Ligue 1 Live Betting & Live Streaming

Live betting is undeniably the most exciting wagering method. It can be daunting for those inexperienced in wagering on live games, but once you learn the basics, live betting can be an excellent strategy for profiting from betting.

As mentioned, access to the best Ligue 1 sportsbooks is an essential element of a profitable wagering endeavor, and it becomes even more critical if you wish to bet on live games.

The first step is to find a bookie that offers live betting. While there are plenty of sites with that feature, some do it better than others. As with normal bets, the quality of in-play odds and market availability are key things you should look for.

But beyond all that, using a sportsbook with live streaming will make your life much easier. You can bet on the game while you watch it on your phone, tablet, or PC.

French Ligue 1 Betting Tips & Predictions

If you want to succeed in betting, you have to make correct predictions, and to achieve that, you need access to as much information as possible. While you should always do your research and wager on what you believe is best, it never hurts to get a second opinion.

Even the most successful bettors take their time to check what other experts think, not necessarily to copy their bets but to see the game they wish to wager on from another perspective. And that is why finding a reputable sports betting site that offers tips and predictions will significantly benefit you.

Whether you use expert predictions to copy them and bet on the same games as the expert providing them or as an additional source of information, there is no excuse for not taking your time to see what other bettors think about the games.

Ligue 1 Betting Strategies

You don’t need a Ph.D. in mathematics to bet on sports successfully, but it helps if you follow a strategy or a betting system. While there are countless betting systems out there, all billed as the best approach, no strategy guarantees profits.

One of the most common and well-known strategies for betting is arbitrage betting or arbing. Arbitrage betting is one of the few strategies that proves what I said about guaranteed profits is wrong.

With arbitrage betting, you are guaranteed to make money no matter what. It is similar in some ways to card counting in blackjack — it’s technically not illegal. Still, the house or bookie won’t tolerate it.

Arbitrage betting essentially takes advantage of inefficiencies in betting markets, where two bookies offer very different odds on the same teams.Using some math or any online arbing calculators, you will occasionally spot arbing opportunities you can take advantage of and guarantee a profit.

Arbitrage betting can be used to profit from wagering, but note that your accounts could get limited or restricted if the bookies spot what you’re arbing.

While arbing technically guarantees a profit, it’s not a long-term strategy. Instead, it’s wiser to focus on the basics, such as bankroll management, price shopping, and thorough analysis for your betting endeavors, rather than searching for flawless tactics.

Ligue 1 has grown tremendously over the last decade. It has many teams competing at a high level. Due to the high quality of the competition, betting on the league is pretty popular. Just look at PSG, which is probably a video-game-like trio up front.

With the Ligue 1 being one of the most popular football leagues in online sportsbooks, there are some trends to keep an eye on. First and foremost, bettors love placing bets on the top goalscorer, an exciting race that can go down to the last matches. The same can be said about the title winner.

Relegation battle trends have also been spotted, and betting on stats can be exciting. Don’t forget about live betting markets, which offer a different action.

French Ligue 1 Bottom Line

As I approach the end of my Ligue 1 betting guide, it’s only fair to examine a few interesting facts about the French football league to give you a better insight into its history and current state.

  • Since the inaugural season, 12 teams have won the French football league, of which only ten still compete in Ligue 1.
  • Saint-Etienne is the most successful French football team with ten titles, followed by Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain with 9 apiece, and Monaco and Nantes, who share the 4th spot with 8 titles and 7 runner-up finishes.
  • Ligue 1 is filled with exceptional talent, including some of the world’s best football players. The most notable names include Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappee, Neymar, Marco Verratti, Mauro Icardi, and more.
  • Throughout its history, Ligue 1 was the home of some of the best footballers, including Eric Cantona, Dragan Stojković, Thierry Henry, George Weah, Didier Drogba, and Zinedine Zidane.
  • The top five all-time goalscorers include Josip Skoblar (44), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (38), Carlos Bianchi (37), Philippe Gondet (36), Gunnar Andersson, Serge Masnaghetti, and Edinson Cavani, who all scored 35 goals in one season.
  • Ligue 1 is one of the “major 5” football leagues, a title it shares with the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, and Germany’s Bundesliga.
  • Ligue 1 features 20 teams, each with its own stadium, spread across 19 French cities and Monaco.
  • You can use countless bookies to bet on the Ligue 1, yet most bettors prefer Bwin, Bet365, Coral, LVBet, and Paddy Power.

With fascinating facts about Ligue 1 out of the way, here are some facts about the league that might help you when picking the right bet.

  • On average, Ligue 1 sees over 2.5 goals in most games. In the 2020/21 season, there were 2.82 goals on average per game, with home teams scoring more goals (1.57) than the away teams (1.26).
  • Interestingly, most goals are scored in the second half, while the majority (24%) are scored in the final 15 minutes.
  • Since most goals happen in the second half, over one-third of games enter the second half with a 0-0 scoreline, and over 60% see no more than one goal in the first 45 minutes.
  • Even hosts usually perform better; the home teams’ win percentage is, on average, between 43-47% and has yet to reach 50% once since in the last decade.

All the success stories from Ligue 1 bettors are built on solid fundamentals, including picking the right Ligue 1 betting site, understanding where to find and how to read the betting odds, and having the right mindset when making the prediction. While it takes time to become a betting expert, I hope my guide has set you on the right path to becoming a Ligue 1 bettor and someone who can turn a profit.

Now, all you need to do is choose the best bookie for the Ligue 1 and start wagering!
