Bet of the Day
Bettors have a great variety of bets they can place, not only because plenty of bookmakers operate in the country but also because most have an extensive offer of betting markets. Local bettors always have something to bet on, from the most significant sporting competitions to local events.
Moreover, besides offering betting markets on local competitions – which you’ll rarely find in other countries – betting sites also offer particular markets for local athletes, further expanding your options. If you’re betting in Uganda, you won’t be deprived of opportunities to place your bets.
Bet on Sports
Sports are a big deal here, and so is sports betting. Although not shocking, all betting sites offer sports betting options, and you don’t even need to search for the best betting sites to be able to bet on sports. But you might be surprised by the wide variety of sports you can wager on, including anything from football to golf, basketball, ice hockey, and Esports.
Admittedly, the more popular sports have much better coverage by Ugandan bookies, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bet on more niche sports – you need to find suitable betting sites for the job.
Football
As the world’s most popular sport, football is also top-rated among viewers, fans, and bettors. So it shouldn’t come off as a shock that all bookmakers in Uganda offer football betting markets, and they do an excellent job at it.
Not only can you bet on the local Premier League, but also all of the world’s most significant football leagues, namely Serie A, English Premier League, German Bundesliga, and many more.
Tennis
Tennis might not be as popular as football, but it’s still one of the world’s most-watched sports. Even though there are no current top tennis players, the locals enjoy watching the sport just as much as they like to bet on it.
As a result, tennis is very well covered by Ugandan bookmakers, who offer tennis betting markets for all major competitions, from the Australian Open to Wimbledon, French Open, US Open, and many other non-Major ATP and WTA events.
Golf
Golf is a trendy sport in Africa, so it makes sense that it also has a massive fanbase. Moreover, golf is one of the best sports to bet on due to its high returns and accessibility.
Most betting sites, including Pal Bet, Wolf Bet, and Admiral Bet, offer golf betting markets, so if you want to bet on it, you’ll have plenty of opportunities.
Cricket
Cricket, much like golf, is very popular in African countries among fans of the game and online bettors. So it’s only fair that most betting sites in the country offer betting markets, making it one of the most accessible sports to bet on, on Ugandan bookmakers.
Esports
Esports betting is still relatively new, but it has spread rapidly worldwide. Although the African online betting industry has yet to catch up to esports betting, it is fairly popular here, with most bookmakers offering Esports betting options.
Basketball
Much like football, basketball is one of the world’s most popular sports, both among the fans of the game and online bettors. So it only makes sense that you can find basketball betting markets on all betting sites that cover domestic and international competitions.
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
It doesn’t have as many prominent MMA athletes as other African countries, but that doesn’t change the fact that MMA is extremely popular in the country, especially among bettors. Therefore, it shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that Ugandan bookies do an excellent job in offering MMA betting markets.
WWE is closely related to MMA. Just like many people like to bet on MMA, so they do on WWE. Admittedly WWE is more of a niche market, but still available on most of the best betting sites.
Rugby
Rugby is a big sport here, especially in the online betting market. Therefore, it makes sense for local bookies to offer rugby betting options, covering the world’s biggest competitions, including the local Nile Special Premier League.
Bet on Competitions
Using local betting sites, you won’t be deprived of betting options. You might even have more than you would in some European countries.
That is because bookies cover not only the major sporting competitions such as the NHL, NBA, Premier League, Champions League, or Volleyball World Cup but also domestic competitions. On Ugandan bookmakers, you’ll be able to place bets on local events such as the Premier League, the betting markets for which won’t be available in Germany, France, or the United States.
While the biggest of the local sporting competitions, the Uganda Premier League is not the only competition bookmakers cover better than international sportsbooks. So when it comes to betting options, bookies offer plenty – especially if you intend to bet on local sports leagues.
Virtual Sports Betting
Virtual sports betting is a niche gambling category. However, it’s still trendy, which explains why most of the top betting sites have virtual sports betting options. Some of the most notable bookmakers people use to bet on virtual sports include Admiral Bet, Wolf Bet, and Pal Bet, but those are just three of countless bookmakers with virtual sports betting options.
How to Choose the Best Bookmakers in Uganda
It is home to many bookmakers, including Supa Bet, Sahara Bet, Paragon Bet, Grand Victoria Bet, Simba Bet, and many more. The list also includes international bookmakers such as Bet365, and with so much selection, it’s often hard to find the best betting site.
However, while locating a solid betting site isn’t easy, the process can become much more straightforward if you know what to look for.
- The most important thing to look for in betting sites is whether they’re licensed, safe, and legal. There is no point in having an account registered with a bookmaker that has good odds if it’s not safe, as this way, you’re putting your money and personal information at risk. So remember only to pick a licensed bookmaker such as Betway, LvBet, Beetle Bet, or Kings Sports Betting, to name a few.
- Besides ensuring that the sportsbook is safe and legit, you must check its offer, namely whether it has enough betting markets and offers competitive betting odds. These two factors are critical and shouldn’t be overlooked by anyone who wishes to make money betting on sports.
- The availability of many payment options is not as critical, but still a vital element of all good betting sites. While you can settle for any bookmaker that accepts your preferred payment method, it never hurts to have more options.
- Nowadays, live betting and live streaming are available on most betting sites, but some do it better than others. So if you intend to bet in-play, make sure you pick only between betting sites that can offer you live betting options.
- Other bonus features, such as the cash-out feature, are not nearly as important as other things we’ve mentioned, but they are still valuable. While cash-out availability shouldn’t be the determining factor of why you picked one sportsbook over the other, it doesn’t hurt to have accounts with cash-out betting sites.
- And lastly, we have to touch on the availability of betting bonuses and promotions, which can offer plenty of value. So if you’ve narrowed the list of bookmakers that provide everything mentioned above, you can narrow it down further by figuring out which are the best online betting companies in Uganda with free bets and other promotions.
Which Ugandan Bookmaker Has the Best Odds?
Since there are so many betting sites, it’s tough to say which is the best. Likewise, it’s impossible to say which bookmaker has the best odds, mainly because there is no proper answer.
It’s sporadic to see bookmakers offering the same odds on any given match; if you compare Royal Sports Betting, Bet City, Zero Bet, SBA Bet, Elite Sports Betting, and U Bet, you might find that SBA Bet will have the best odds on the next Premier League match. In contrast, Royal Sports Betting will have better odds on the next round of Serie A.
So if you’re after the best available odds, the only way to be able to bet with the best prices is to register with multiple bookmakers and shop around for the best offer rather than picking one bookmaker in hopes it will offer the best odds.
Some of the best betting sites that are known to have competitive odds include Enjoy Bet, Hot Bet, Inno Bet, Forebet Mobile Bet, Smart Bet, Ultimate Bet, 51 Bet, and Lion Bet. Registering and having the option to use multiple bookmakers is beneficial not only for price shopping but also for arbitrage betting, so there are advantages to having multiple betting accounts.
Payment Methods at Ugandan Sportsbooks
Many betting sites have their perks, namely when it comes to selecting your preferred payment method. Besides the local betting site in Uganda, the country also accepts international betting companies, which expands the offer of available payment methods to include even the world’s most popular online payment providers.
Yet while bettors have plenty of options when selecting their preferred payment method, only a handful are used the most. Those include MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money, M-Sente, and Africell Money.
Notably, there are betting sites that accept Visa debit cards, and you won’t struggle to find online sportsbooks with Skrill. Still, the 4 mentioned payment methods are far more popular among bettors. That is mainly because all available on mobile devices are fast and secure.
Of late, Neteller and Skrill are becoming increasingly popular and are generally available on all of the best betting sites in Uganda. Likewise, some bookmakers also started accepting crypto. The latter payment option is still in its infancy; however, it’s widely regarded as the best payment method due to fast transactions, security, and anonymity.
Mobile Betting Sites & Betting Apps in Uganda
Mobile betting, while globally not as popular as betting on computers, is highly prevalent in some areas of the world, namely in countries where people have better access to mobile devices than computers. It is one of the countries that belong in that category, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that most sports betting in the country is done via Uganda betting apps.

To meet the ever-growing demand for mobile betting, most betting platforms have started offering options for people to bet from their phones – by either providing a betting app or setting up a mobile betting website. Notably, bookmakers with betting apps also have a mobile betting website, but not vice versa.
That’s because a mobile app is harder to set up, but it’s also far more convenient to use and should be used by any bettor, especially those who prefer to bet from their phones. Mobile apps are far more stable and user-friendly than a mobile website – moreover, some bookies will also offer special promotions for mobile app users.
Although not all bookmakers will have a mobile app available, most online betting sites will, namely Gals Sports Betting, Top Bet, Maxbet, and Capital Bet. So if you’re a mobile bettor, you should preferably register with the best betting sites with the best betting apps in Uganda.
Live Betting & Streaming
All sports betting sites, or at the very least the most prominent online betting sites in Uganda, will have live streaming and live betting options. That is mainly because live betting has become very popular over the last decade. To meet the ever-growing demand for live betting, all betting sites had to start considering adding that feature.
While most betting sites will have live betting markets, not all will have live streaming options, and some might offer subpar live stream offers. So if you want to enjoy live sports betting in Uganda, it’s wise to register only with the best betting sites.
So before you sign up for an account on any betting website, check if it has live betting markets and, most importantly, if it has live betting options on the sport or league you intend to bet on. Moreover, it’s highly advisable to check the accessibility of live streams, which are pretty common but not available on all betting sites.
Some of the best live betting sites in Uganda are HomeBet, Royal Bet, 256 Bet, Worldstar Betting, and Bet365, but there are many more great choices, especially among new sports betting sites.
Alternatively, you can check our list of the best online betting sites with live betting and live streaming options. All are safe and legal and offer everything you’ll ever need to bet in-play.
The Legal Situation of Sports Betting in Uganda
People have been able to bet in Uganda since April 2016, when the Lotteries and Gaming Act No. 7 came to force. The same act is still used in the country as the most efficient act in its history.
The same act also introduced the Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (LGRB), the official regulatory body, responsible for issuing land-based and Uganda online betting companies licenses.
It has issued licenses to numerous bookmakers in Uganda, including Aba Bet, Premier Bet, Champion Bet, Kagwirawo Bet, SportyBet, Msport, Bongo Bongo Bet, One Bet, Fortune Bet, Fortebet Mobile Bet, Betsure, BetPawa, many more. Moreover, the LGRB also sets up taxes, which are currently at 20% GGR for all licenses. Interestingly international sportsbooks that operate in the country (such as Bet365) do not hold a permit, hence are not subject to any taxes.
History of Sports Betting in Uganda
The online betting scene started with the Lotteries and Gaming Act No.7 in 2016, but even before that, the country had laws to regulate gambling.
Before the Lotteries and Gaming Act No.7, betting was regulated by the National Lotteries Board (NLB), established in 1967 under the National Lotteries Act. In 1968, it also accepted the Gaming and Pool Betting (Control and Taxation) Act came into effect a year later, with the Lotteries and Gaming Bill added in 2013.
So even though it has been making moves to regulate gambling for years entirely, it wasn’t until Lotteries and Gaming Act No.7 that the gambling world in the country was adequately set up. The same act also introduced National Gaming Board Uganda (NGBU), now known as the Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (LGRB), which oversees gambling in the country.
Responsible Gambling Organisations
If you’re facing gambling problems, there are a number of international companies and organizations that you can turn to for help. These organizations can offer support, resources, and counseling to help you overcome your gambling addiction and get your life back on track.
